Contrast Paint is a revolutionary paint, going from Base, wash, Layer, Highlight to ONE THICK COAT.
But what if we put it through the airbrush?

FYI, You can do this same technique with inks for about 25% the price of citadel contrast paints. For a more subtle effect you can thin them with airbrush thinner, what alot of people call a "filter". Great vid, its always great to learn new approaches to things to help you think outside the box.
Totally! Contrasts are basically inks, but they’re a good stepping stone from beginner to intermediate painter :)
@@HellstormWargaming True theyre a great intermediary! I think alot of people have a block that makes them cautious about using anything not readily available from a game store.
Yea, the entire time I'm watching this I was thinking, just use inks...hell of alot cheaper and much better coloration
@@WardenOfTerra that's crazy, thanks for your feedback
It’s not true so I wouldn’t take it wholeheartedly@Dan
I've been airbrushing contrast over a zenithal highlight for a while now. Works really well, I'd highly recommend it 👌🏻
Actually really refreshing hearing what you were saying about paint recipes, I completely agree.
I've done this a few times now, but you expanded on this well. I love the blending you get out of it, great video! thx
Glad you enjoyed it!
People ask about specific colours because even among the same medium, such as contrast, each colour can behave very differently from each other. For example with contrast, some of them behave more like inks whereas others behave more like washes. For normal acryllics, some might end up chalky if drybrushing where as others wont. That's why people are specific about colour.
Love this idea! Never even thought of using Contrasts in the airbrush. Thanks!
Enjoy it! Hope you find great success with it
Just come in to say, I LOVE contrast through the airgun.
Hell yeah! Make sure you join the discord and share what you've been using it for :D
I found that ink, water and airbrush medium through an airbrush ends up very similar to contrast paint if you go heavy with it and let it pool a little.
I need to try contrast paint through an airbrush. It seems like going heavy with it to get the wash-like effect is the only reason to use it over just using ink.
Watched this video a few times now, really helpful advice!
Take a shot every time Mikey says “filter”
I've been doing this with instant colors from scale 75. It is pretty sweet.
Same idea! Works with any translucent paint!
Plaguebearer flesh for my kruleboyz through an airbrush with a touch of brown in from underneath for shadows is perfect!
I bet that looks LUSH
@@HellstormWargaming it works for me! Quick and simple and gives it some lovely depth over a heavy zenithal with white ink. 👍
Really nice vid mate, im a complete noob Airbrusher, but im learning, and vids like this really help so thanks bud =)
Glad to hear it! Happy to help :)
Brilliant vid, convinced me to give it a go. Cheers!
Good luck and hope it goes well?
Great video, contrast style paints or inks through an airbrush is a nice easy way to establish your base colours on a mini for sure.
One quick thing tho: It's "zenithal" not "zenitheal".
😰
awsome vid mate! keep it going
Oh perfect. I had thought the paint was probly thin enough and was wondering what the result would be in an airbrush.
Shoutout to when he was about to say 'tummy', but then immediately felt self conscious about it, changed his mind and said 'stomach'.
Thanks for the tips!! Great vid!! :)
Thanks for watching!
Contrast through an airbrush is ace. I use warp lightning through my airbrush for my Salamanders
Banger! Good for green OSL too!
Awesome! I must admit I'm a bit afraid to use them like this due to their cost. :D And how hard it is to get them out of the bottle.
A big brush holds a lot and just wipe it into the cup :)
I'm clumsy and will definitely knock the pot over at some point, so my contrast paints get transferred to dropper bottles. When factoring the cost, you have to take time into account. Putting them through an airbrush gets such a good result so quickly. And even at the very high price of contrast, the paint cost is very small compared to the actual model cost.
The best way to transfer contrast to an airbrush is to buy some really cheap pipettes from ebay..
Mikey paints while waiting for 10th edition to drop
Good idea, but I think it's better to use regular artist inks. Cheaper for volume! (but usually less colors, so mixing required...)
Most people who are new to Airbrushing will probably already have Contrast Paints, so theyre a good stepping stone ;)
I’ve been doing this for years and suddenly everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon…. Welcome to the party! 🎉
If only I could actually airbrush inside the lines...
I don't get it, if you use contrast paints in a way as normal paints so the don't pool and provide a contrast whats the point in using them?
Is it possible to get ”the contrast paint effect” in any way with an airbrush? Got 1K tyranids done with contrast and brush, but for a swarm army, I’m super tempted to get an airbrush. However, if the end result doesn’t have those dark deep colors in recesses, it kinda defeats the purpose.
Tried it on something like a space marine?
How long does something like this take?
I tried my hardest to listen, but far out he can't finish a sentence 😂 did my head in
What psi would you recommend
what size needle were you using?
I try contrasts with my IWATA Eclipse, but my needle gets clogged very quickly. Could someone give me some hints how to mitigate the clogging with contrasts? Pressure - High or low? Adding flow improver? Diluting the contrast paint? If yes, water or airbrish thinner, or contrast medium?
That was the first thing I did when the paint came out?
Good on you!
Saw the title, didnt watch the video. True.
Fair
Did you thin the Contrast paints at all, or airbrush neat?
Mostly neat, otherwise with just a bit of water :)
A load bollocks but the end result was pretty nice and isn’t that exactly what art should be, at the end of the day?
I painted all my Eldar vehicles by shooting ork flesh through my airbrush
Yassss I bet that looks dope
Zenitial?😅😂
could you say zenithal again.........that was freaking me out
Ze-ne-thi-all 👀😅
👍
Do you use a mask when airbrushing?
Only for massive projects - like if I’m spraying for 5-6 hours at a time. Not for like one model
The video has died early on
What do you mean?
@@HellstormWargaming all I had was a black screen with u talking
Not a clue what this guy is saying. Must be from Newcastle
I'm gonna be that guy, if only for a moment...
1. There is nothing that can be achieved with an airbrush that cannot be done with bristles, whilst the inverse is not true.
2. ZEN-ith-ALL. 3 syllables. One "i."
GRIS-aye. 2 syllables, it's French.
