    I'm glad videos like this exist to really hammer home how badly I suck at painting minis.

    • @PaintMinisLive
      @PaintMinisLive 2 месяца назад +1

      You don't suck at painting minis, you are painting them and putting the effort in to practice. practice is a long term investment. You will never see the results from a year of practice when you start your very first mini. Persist, learn and be gentle with yourself. Let mistakes happen, don't beat yourself up over them, learn from them and apply them to your next paint up and you will see improvement. Improvement that will compound over time. Best of luck out there fellow painter, you got this!

    • @Jonkronn
      @Jonkronn 15 дней назад

      Don't worry mate, we all feel the same. But seriously, what Paintminislive said is entirely true. Unless you are extremely lucky, you will never become great by not practising. Pro paint youtubers didn't start a channel to become good painters. They were good painters that decided to start a channel, all that background practice is hidden to us.
      I was honestly so shit for my first year of painting until i actually started properly failing. In other words I didn't paint in my comfort zone mostly. Best of luck with your paints :)
      PS. would you really be satisfied if you looked at paintjob you did 2 years ago and it looked just as good as todays model? It just means you haven't been improving. Nothing more satisfying than seeing how bad you WERE.

      Ah thanks, it's just something i wanted to have a go at and see what they would be like. I just had Vallejo air paints and then recently got Army Painter Air paints. But i found the vallejo paints to go on nicely but then just dry dull and desaturated - which is really frustrating.

    I use speedpaints through an airbrush to do Ultramarine tanks
    Do your initial prime
    Spray all over with Highlord Blue
    Mix Highlord with some white or pale grey. Drybrush that all over the mini to bring up the edges
    Then with a large soft brush (cheap makeup brushes are ideal) stipple some more of the Highlord into the center of panels to get some gradient and a bit more depth
    After that, it's just detailing. I would suggest giving it a coat of matte varnish before you do the details though, as the speedpaint doesn't love being handled

      @@SwordsandBrushes cheap makeup brushes are great for drybrushing and stippling. They really should be a part of every painter's arsenal. The biggest issue with them is they're take ages to dry after cleaning them, which means you usually need a couple on hand if you're planning on tackling multiple colours in a session

      Ah the cheeky black one in the last photo was done with normal airbrush paints, just seemed the best way to do it that way.
      You can find the colours used on the back end of this Fellbeast photo as they are the same for the black :)
      ruclips.net/video/RpN7zfJYyrM/видео.html
      I have worked on some horses and also chaos stuff to get a black/off- black look with speedpaints and i think i will do a video on that topic as i really like the end result.
      The basis was to spray it black, and then zenithal or preshade it white - then you can go back over with the Grim Black through the airbrush - or for some "fantasy results" using the coloured paints as an inbetween to tint the colour before the black goes over it.
      It's simpler doing it than trying to write it out lol - but it gives some nice results! :)

    Quick question though, I didn't quite follow how you triggered the reactivation in SP2.0. Army Painter says reactivation for 2.0 is time dependent (within 4 hours?). How does increasing PSI do this? Presumably you have to thin the paint further when increasing the PSI too. Thanks in advance for your clarity.

      From my experience - the two cheap airbrushes i have used, 1 from a kit and then i bought a replacement which was about £15 have been pants!
      The screw parts of the airbrush always seem to dislodge and i get irritated.

      I have a couple of airbrushes which have been sent to me by another company so im going to give them a go and i'll do a video for them at some point. But for now the neo is what i use for all the videos :)

    If it don’t have access to spread or contrast paints could I use ink

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  6 месяцев назад +1

      Absolutely! I believe you just need to thin down the ink a bit as they are high in pigment. But just test it out first on a small section or scrap model :)

    Hi, could you please write down the colors used for the Green and Blue Dragon?

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  10 месяцев назад

      Sure they are: Cream Wings first
      Spray Vallejo Primer 74.615 Ghost Grey
      SP Pallid Bone (wings and skin)
      SP Crusader Skin (wings) - may not need this
      SP Hardened Leather recesses (wings and skin)
      SP Holy White (layer wings)
      SP Hardened Leather (wd recess and blusher out)
      Green Areas
      SP Orc Skin (scales base)
      SP Absolution Green (recesses for scales)
      Angel Green (blusher on stripes)
      Scaly Hide (drybrush)
      Green Tone (recess shade)
      And the blue one is:
      Light Blue
      Spray Vallejo Primer 74.615 Ghost Grey
      SP Magic Blue - (basecoat)
      SP Highlord Blue - (recess & scales)
      Cream Wings
      SP Pallid Bone - mix with a lot of Tamiya Thinner and force the SP Blood Red to reactivate to create a gradient.
      SP Hardened leather - for the shaded parts going across the wings
      I have a dragon from another company so i may well do one of these colour schemes for that one and make a video :)

    your looking like the master of reactivation!! though maybe to late:( if you ever find away to make the 2.0 line work like the 1.0 line it would be much appreciated! and save my buying a few boxes of the 1.0 line

    • @SwordsandBrushes
      @SwordsandBrushes  Год назад

      oh i love it - it's so good, allowing you to blend like that with zero effort involved and if you make a mistake when painting layers you can just 'wet brush it off' - golden!
      I'm really liking them as "shades and "layers" over a painted layer and they work a treat alongside the normal airbrush range.
      I will find a way, maybe using some sort of paint retarder may do the trick - i like to experiment :)

      Late but I have been told adding Speedpaint medium or equivalent can make it akin to 1.0

      @CaptinCrofty Год назад

      @@barty1995 hmm not sure about that.. adding 1.0 medium sure, but that’s going out of production and it’s going to dilute the colour. I haven’t tried it though

      @existe11 10 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I actually liked that SP 1.0 had reactivation to make belnding so much easier. SP 2.0 swung too far in other direction in terms of activation and do not find them as useful and difficult to blend as previous versions sadly. I have tried using the 1.0 medium with some success but just not the same. I have moved on to Scale75 Instant Colors with a good middle ground

    You're not going to have much luck blending like that with speedpaint 2.0 considering fixing reactivation is the whole reason there even is a 2.0!

      Just a different way of using them, I like using them as washes when painting by hand, but i also prefer these than Vallejo airbrush paints by a mile - they just give a lot more vibrancy :)
      It's helped me get the mini done much quicker than what i would have normally and i use the reactivation properties to another benefit, so for me it's a win win :)
