Totally this. Great to get straight into the review.
I asked AP about Speedpaint after seeing some other videos. Their customer services let me know that they are particularly water soluble, so they recommend leaving it for a while after drying or coating with varnish to avoid the ping reactivating.
Let's add some thermodynamics and the fact, that we don't know, what's in these snake oils... 🎨 ❤ let's just say i might have a hunch.

I love these videos. I recently decided to get into this hobby an in what I will describe as an over zealous purchase. I bought one of each of the reaper bones 5 Kickstarter and now have SOOOOOO many minis I am looking forward to the army painter speed paint to help me slay some of that grey and get some progress, practice and confidence painting. These videos help to see what the limits of the paint are and get me hyped for painting.
Another great look at this paint range. I can't wait to pick them up.

This is what I have been looking for in a paint!
I just started painting as a newbie. I have a 7" resin statue of Tyrande Whisperwind I have begun painting. I really like some of the speedpaints. Plasmatic Bolt is awesome. I did 2 coats for her hair and the color just really pops. I tested purple alchemy but it was going to be too dark for her skin. I was able to use it for the recesses of her ears and brushed pixie pink over the ridges to blend it. Really worked well. I think Purple Alchemy would have been a good color to include in this set. Maybe Plasmatic Bolt too.

Seems like if you use one water soluble paint over another water soluble paint especially if you add additional water to it, the new layer is going to loosen up the underlying layer. So in between you would want to spray on a non water soluble clear coat, or, the new layer needs to be a different kind of paint, alcohol based or solvent based perhaps.

Instead of doing 2 layers of white ink then varnish, I've found that mixing white ink with matte medium makes it robust enough to paint on top of with a brush. I've done this with Liquitex white ink and Army Painter matte medium.

I don't even use your style of painting and I'm more of a 40K fan than an AoS one (still pissed at WFB being flushed down the toilet), but I just think your stuff is phenomenal and extremely well put together. Subbed. Just started to paint minis. Been mostly a conflict simulation board gamer. Played D&D last century, 80's(?). Was planning on doing some wilderness adventures back then. Wish I had more of the Ral Partha minis.

I've never bought a full range at once before, but all the initial reviews have been very positive. I'll be interested to hear more thoughts on the differences and similarities to Contrast paints
Watching this video reminded me that I ordered a bunch paints recomended in a past video. Also, l hadn't check my snail mail in weeks. I can"t wait to order these Speed Paints... ah the cycle countinues..

The additional time it would have taken probably would have cut too deeply into getting a video out on time, but perhaps adding a varnish layer between coats of speed paints would prevent the under layer from coming off. But then you're looking at a few hours curing time for each layer of paint... ooof.

Hey Dana! loved the video! One quick thing I noticed is it comes out pretty glossy, isn't it? I dunno if that was the desired effect but or a by-product of the primer. Would coating it with a matt varnish afterwards solve that?

I can't say about the Warpaints, but it doesn't do it with Contrast paint through an airbrush. It acts more like a filter or ink. I would assume that the Army Painter Speedpaints react in a similar way.

green is the best undercoat for painting red?
I'm late to the party, but this video is very useful. How have you found these paints on smaller models with an airbrush
I'm new to your channel, 1:39 - I'm primarily a large figure scale painter (statue) and have never heard green as a base for red before? I'll have to try it, but can you explain more about that. In my circles we use Tamiya silver as a base for red or yellow top color.
I think its more color theory thing. In the shadow of the color you will see hints of its complementary color, hence green to red will gives you more vibrant shadows.
A masterpiece! Also, question for anyone here: I just assembled and primed the 40K Kill Team Warzone Octarius set that I received from Santa. For the metallic Ork fort structures, is there an Army Painter metallic that would work well to produce a rusty/bronzy metallic effect similar to the Octarius box art?
How does Speedpaint interact with Contrast Medium? I'm guessing it's not close enough for thinning Speedpaint with it would work?
Newb here. I just bought my first airbrush. So I bought the army painter airbrush paints set, do I need the speedpaints too? Are they the same? or do they compliment one another and it wouldn't hurt to use both?

You mentioned using a Varnish after the basecoat. I messed up some spots on a model the other night because a top layer removed a bottom layer. What varnish do you use and do you thin it? Thanks! (Other commenters welcome too :) )

from looking at the swatch colour for that one (without having seen it IRL) how far off would something like Ubshanti Bone, Screaming Skull or Wraithbone be?
