Well people complaining about Toms physicality probably don't realize people went to see a Tom Cruise movie not necessarily a "Jack Reacher" movie like a mission impossible type character I'm not going to watch Tom's replacement personally.
Yep, Tom Cruise put the franchise on the map for the average casual moviegoer. There are not many actors on the tier that could have achieved the same box office results, and even fewer than a handful of them would have satisfied readers' fundamentalist expectations and demands.
Also, I think the movies and stories are better with Reacher being of Tom cruise’s size, since a smaller person has to have real skills in order to beat someone is much larger than him, versus the way reacher is described in the books means that he can simply overpower most opponents with brute force from his size.
Not only that, but for me, seeing a huge guy beat up smaller guys isn't as satisfying as seeing a smaller, slightly aging guy do the job. tom Cruise being the guy is only a slight enhancement.
Alan Richtson does a phenomenal jo as Reacher, actually. Tom still does a great job here, and kinda brings the book to a more realistic pov. But Alan brings the book to life, since he looks and acts a lot like the character.
One of my favorite lines is when Tom tells the guy" Im gonna kill you and drink your blood from a boot" 🤣😂🤣 and also the bar scene when antagonized Sandy 😂
BS. She and the baby responded to the film ad and passed the casting. They knew the risks. Them's the breaks when the movie you signed up for turns out violent.
The problem is one of the things that makes Jack Reacher Jack Reacher is his size. He's supposed to look physically terrifying. Hell in the movie when they are trying to figure out who killed Sandy, they say they are looking for a guy who looks like he can kill someone with one punch and then it cuts to Tom Cruise. Who is 5'6" and doesn't look like he could kill someone in a single punch. Alan does. He's a better fit for the role in my opinion. They are both good at playing the character of Reacher but one has arguably the most important trait of Reachers which is his massive size. Another example is in one of the books he had been doing manual labor for months and was extra muscular. Later that book he gets shot by a .38 in his pec and it basically slowed the bullet and didn't cause any internal damage. Tom Cruise isn't built like that. The size of Wolverine isn't really that important to have the character be effective. For Reacher it is in my opinion.
Forget the size. Ritchson is a terrible actor. He has no range at all. Also, he was so big in the second season he positively waddled. He became totally unbelievable as a fighter
His size in this film doesn’t matter what matters was the way he played the role and the story line, Tom played his role very well, big or small in size he nailed this performance perfectly and in my personal opinion was one of the best films he has made, watched this film over and over again and still find it brilliant

Tom Cruise is short, but the first movie worked better because the cinematography, choreography, and overall direction did their best to make you forget this. There are a couple of scenes where someone unfamiliar with Tom Cruise entirely might see, and all of a sudden notice how short he is, but those scenes are few and far between. And that's how to do it. I never watched the second movie because I got to a couple of scenes where they emphasized in surrounding him with much bigger guys and clearly showcasing how much bigger they are, But you see how big they are compared to other people and subconsciously the movie is showing you how shorts Tom Cruise is. Among other reasons, but that was a big one holding that movie back.
Cobie Smulders is one of the best to play a badass female. No exageration, no "tough bitch" lame script.. Just good, tough, courageous woman, with limitations. Just like her character of Maria Hill in Avengers...
She plays both characters with a lack of realistic vulnerability and insecurity, she lacks depth acting and just can't do it, fine for a super hero movie but her range is too limited for this.

I am not a fan of Tom Cruise...however, I thought he did a good job on this film despite being much too physically small for the role. Alan's Reacher is better- IMHO
The first Jack Reacher movie with Tom Cruise was a very entertaining movie even if you weren't familiar with the character, the second one, not so much.
I think Tom Cruise being smaller than Alan Ritchson actually made him better for the role of Reacher. It caused the people around him to underestimate him abilities, meanwhile you see an oversized shaved ape like Ritchson walk into the room and people know not to mess with him. It made him more believable, faster, and more agile than just a walking mass of muscle. Just my opinion.
I wonder how many people would not have anything to say about any Jack Reacher movie if the words "Tom Cruise" were forbidden. I mean, how many years has it been since the first movie was released and the same people show up with the same comment like they are some sort of Edgelord for saying it.
12:40 You can clearly see someone closing the rear door of the truck with two people in the front as the vehicle turns. When the van stops nobody in the back and two people in the front with Reacher+1 in the car. So who closed the rear door?
Well, that's where we disagree. I walked out of the movie, I at least watched 2 seasons of show. Which, by the way, was much closer to source material than the movies ever was

How high we talking? Obviously for something like a 50 cal might want more protection, but the rifle in the movie wasn't that big of a caliber so plugs are fine.
An avid reader of Reacher novels also would be extremely grateful that Cruise put Reacher on the map, gave the franchise box office legitimacy and commercial validation to convince studios to fund a more authentic TV series. Tom Cruise could have filmed a similar film without the Reacher name, and made the same amount of money. Very, very, very few actors could have given a Reacher film the same box office attention as he did, at the time he did it.
@1utube01 not necessarily Alan Richardson did an excellent job as Reacher is one of the main reason the series is so successful if the Amazon series came out before the movies it would be just as successful
Alan Richardson has done a fantastic job portraying the character in the books. In the books they describe is physical size.. such as his hands are the size of a glove. When I heard Tom Cruise would be the Reacher character, I decided I wouldn't watch. Not believeable.
