What amazed me was that "Who the hell pays for parking" moment. Reached knew that the cop was involved because he "found" Barrs finger prints on the quarters in the parking meter. No one wouldn't think to suspect there was evidence of the shooter inside.
Probably the only comment about the investigation, which should have been the point behind this scene!!!!

@hindolbhattacharya9715 Reacher admits that he has blindspots. It's why he recruited such a diverse group for members of the 110th Special Investigators unit, so they'd pick up on things he missed. He also tends to focus on details, sometimes the big picture eludes him. So even though his head is screaming "Who the hell pays for parking?", he misses the obvious follow up of "Who the hell thinks a killer is worried about the meter maid?" Hence why he tells Emerson "No one would think to look for that quarter, not even me."
This was the best scene in the whole movie .. that got me loving the movie and rewatching several times without getting bored.
The other scene is where he lays out the victims and their lives in contrast to her idea of them being random with no purpose.

I know Tom Cruise didn't fit the discription in the book of Jack Reacher. But I still believe he did an excellent job of playing the role.
yep. I didn't have the Lee Child reference from the books and I LOVE the Reacher series... its fantastic... but c'mon... lil Tommy C played the part well enough to make me watch it a few times over... and I know a lot of that is from the writing... but people need to stop the hating when this movie likely led to the series that they wanted.
He did an excellent job of remembering his lines in that scene with the distractions and all.
It is kinda funny rewatching this movie and paying attention to how much effort the DoP put into making Tom Cruise look taller, lol. Real talk though he was great in the role even if he's too short. Kinda like how Hugh Jackman just IS Wolverine even though he's about eight inches taller than the character is supposed to be.
Tom Cruise at least looks small enough that people from a bar would think they had a chance at beating him up. Alan Ritchson from the series would have the opponent saying "nope, no hand to hand with him"

I do like the question "who the hell pays for parking?" Reacher keeps asking himself because it just creates that feeling that something's off. At what point does evidence become too convenient that it feels like it could be planted.
I really do like this scene. It does more to explain how a sniper actually works than any other movie

Sorry, what? I don't believe there was any explanation, just a well placed lean into the the camera at the correct angle and time to cause sufficient distraction that they could have recited instructions on how to unclog a toilet with a toothbrush and it wouldn't have mattered.

This has to be the best investigation scene in movie history, and the way he makes the prediction about the company just made it so much better.
When hit our lowest point, we are capable of the greatest change.
Reacher found Barr’s and saw…a man so desperate, he would ask for the help of the one man who would gladly put him away for life; knowing he would withhold his biases in the name of the oath he took, yet so few ever live by.

While Tom Cruise is a great actor, and he does really well here, you may be surprised to know that the "real" Jack Reacher in the books probably looks more like Ivan Drago (Dolph Ludgren) from Rocky IV or maybe even Brock Lesnar from UFC/WWE.
Also, he is NOT a pacifist or anything like the bar fight in this movie. He strongly believes in attacking 1st, because why give the other guy an advantage and 2nd why try to delay the inevitable?

Thanks for that. I must get around to reading the books. I’ve also heard there’s a new Jack Reacher tv series in the works for Amazon Prime starring Alan Ritchson as Reacher. Looking forward to that also
@@zafster22 The books are great, never siezing to entertain. Cruise got a lot of hate for taking on the role, but in this movie he is perfect for it. Yeah, he isn't 1.96m like the books, but his authority aura compensates for it.

When I first watched this movie, I had completely missed the first scene so I was under the impression that it was James Barr that did the shooting. That made the reveal of this scene 10 times better. Upon rewatching I realise how stupid I was, but had they actually not shown the face of the real shooter at the beginning, it would have made this movie so much better than it already is.
When she talked about muscle memory I instantly thought of my extraocular muscles and their involuntary reactions.

that what i love about reacher. he's brings a holmes-like anyltical appoarch to the case but adds in common sense. not just about barr as a sniper but also as a person. "who the hell pays for parking?" it makes him stand out from other detectives like perot, holmes, monk, sean spenser, house, etc.

I like the whole film and the plot. I like action/suspense/crime films.
I haven't seen the Jack Reacher TV series or read the books, but even so, I don't care that Tom looks nothing like the original character or how he is meant to appear.
I think he plays the part well and is convincing.
I also read that he was protective of Rosamund during filming. He knew she was pregnant, and she was worried about things like getting morning sickness. But he didn't want to replace her, and he looked out for her.
He seems to respect the women he works with. Jennifer Connelly liked working with him in Top Gun:Maverick. She was very nervous about the flying scene, but he managed to keep her calm.
Tom Cruise here is as smart as he was in A Few Good Men with Demy Moore (1992). His nature is to become a law expert.

I loved her thinking Reacher was going to be totally captivated when they first met and he just casually walks away with her rather chasing him. This would also be in the motel room when she was so sure he was going to make a move on her and instead just hands her car keys and says bye

What would’ve made this scene 1000x better would’ve been to have not shown who the shooter was in the opening sequence, that way the audience figures things out as Reacher and Co. do. Then, we all would've been looking wide-eyed like Rosamund Pike does here. haha

I like that movie reveals that instantly. It sets it apart from other mysteries by not playing audience for dummies. It would have been obvious that Barr did not kill those people anyway, therefore the focus is shifted towards "WHY?" rather than "WHO?".

@@CBThree Hollow-point match rifle bullets have a very small opening in the nose. This minimal opening is designed to maintain a minimal meplat. It is not designed for expansion.

The literally thousands of expanded hollow point match bullets (not regular HP expanding hunting bullets) I’ve seen shot into a 10-foot vertical water tank at Barnes Bullets would debunk your theory.
In military speak, they are not “designed” to expand but to be more accurate and the HP is just a manufacturing “feature”. But, there is no way a hollow point on the tip of a bullet will not cause it to deform going into water.
Dude there is literally hundreds of clips on here of people shooting into water jugs and recovering the bullets pretty much intact.

@Kenefv2 Worldwide as people look naturally the majority are just not that attractive. Normally people can look great in some photos / videos at angles, really it is only 1 to 2% that are just flawless, with perfect bone structure, shape, posture. Rosamund Pike was pregnant during this film so her hormones expanded her cleavage. I do fancy her, I am the exact same age as Rosamund Pike, The original comment from "Agent Cooper" is right, watch her in "Return to Sender (2015)", in particular a scene where she is shaving her leg in the bath, she is not at attractive there.

Tom's Reacher was way better as he didn't instantly make everyone afraid of him and his muscles. I miss this because it made his fighting moves more unexpected. Tom's character was more of a tactic fighter, not just brute force.
In another Tom Cruise movie they used another crime scene with an "Orgy of evidence" - Minority Report.

On top of making an excellent film, I'm convinced that the director Christopher McQuarrie went out of his way to make sure Rosamund Pike's cleavage was on point in every single one of her scenes.

Must have watched this movie a dozen times... One of my favorite movies. Very well written and edited... But reviewing this scene there is one very important detail subtly missed... A sniper would never leave his rifle around for someone to just take (steal)... This kinda ruins the movie because this story would never happen...
