One of the most beautiful works of Poulenc (personal opinion). Poulenc’s set of five songs on poems of Guillaume Apollinaire is such a treasure. The last song, Sanglots, remains one of those textual mysteries for me, even after having heard and read it so many times. The poem is so well put on music by Poulenc. Maybe one of the best chansons of the repertoire.
