Or nous savons qu’en nous beaucoup d’hommes respirent
Qui vinrent de très loin et sont un sous nos fronts
C’est la chanson des rêveurs
Qui s’étaient arraché le coeur
Et le portaient dans la main droite
Souviens-t’en cher orgueil de tous ces souvenirs
Des marins qui chantaient comme des conquérants
Des gouffres de Thulé des tendres cieux d’Ophir
Des malades maudits de ceux qui fuient leur ombre
Et du retour joyeux des heureux émigrants
De ce coeur il coulait du sang
Et le rêveur allait pensant
A sa blessure délicate

One of the most beautiful works of Poulenc (personal opinion). Poulenc’s set of five songs on poems of Guillaume Apollinaire is such a treasure. The last song, Sanglots, remains one of those textual mysteries for me, even after having heard and read it so many times. The poem is so well put on music by Poulenc. Maybe one of the best chansons of the repertoire.
Nice intensity, very legato There seems to be a great concern for precision in each note. I appreciate your interpretation

Beautifully shot video. I find those fast short notes starting around 2:00 to be distracting in this interpretation though.
