A good way to secure field dressing and campsites is to use a portable electric fence. The lightest one out there weighs only 2.4 lbs and it’s powerful enough to deter a hungry griz. Just a suggestion

Great podcast Randy and Corey. Took lots of notes on this one.
My fiancé and I are going to be honeymooning in Montana and a lot of this will be helpful when we do our remote hikes in the mountains.

Is there a way to public hunt elk after they have crossed over into private land?

I carry bear spray and a handgun. The bear spray is for the bears. The handgun is a backup plan, in case the spray doesn't work, it will give me something to do while I'm getting eaten..

Suppose you are hunting solo.. would starting a small fire in your work area help convince bears to stay away?

So I have a question for you guys unrelated to this video, but I thought of it while watching your Colorado podcast. I don't know where to submit the Sitka question of the week but do you guys think you have a better chance of pulling a trophy class bull out of a unit waiting 19 plus years to acquire the preference points to get into that trophy unit, or do you think if you spent 19 years mastering a single decent unit you could consistently pull trophy bulls, if you're willing to put in the work. With pretty similar success rates across the board In most GMUs I feel like any unit holds trophy class you might just have to invest the time and bust ass going places nobody wants to go. Maybe the unit I hunt Is that much different than everywhere else but I doubt it

Ya lost me on the handgun commentary its a great tool but not if you don’t train with it .muzzle awareness finger off trigger till site acquisition but most can’t do it

You wanna bet on that, Corey? I’m kidding, but if you think about it, you are not counting for opportunity per occasion. Take an individual dying of lightning. There are % deaths in a population per year. This does not take into account opportunities for hits in the population as a whole. I have never been hit but I have been out in many thunderstorms, occasionally on the golf course as Randy was mentioning. Since it is impossible to tell how often a person could be hit, the hits/population is used. Moving to grizzlies, the population that have encounters with them is much smaller and therefore there are fewer opportunities per encounter, leading to a higher encounter/opportunity. Besides, not many tourists go into a storm to hug a lightning bolt.

Be prepared but not scared. If a grizzly decides to take you it’s up to God at that point you may scare him off with spray but he could run right through the spray and then the gun is the last chance 1 sec shot to head most can’t make that shot. So it’s fate at that point. So sleep tight. Last resort play dead cause you will probably be dead 😁🙈
