Thanks for the memories. You cannot imagine the flood of fond memories this has brought back. See you at deer camp.
John McMorris Thank YOU John! Great job on that article!
Do you have that magazine article still John? If so, do you think you could take a pic of it so we could post and let people read it?
Yes. I have several copies of the original mag and I think I have the original editorial clip that was sent to me by Gordon Whittington prior to the magazine's publication. I will see if I can scan it and send it to your email address at THP. @@TheHuntingPublic
I think one of the things that makes this channel so great is that you capture the spirit of what hunting is all about. And your uncle’s story about the Bear bow, raising a family, not a ton of money, etc. is the reality for most people. That sentiment comes through in a genuine way. I hope you guys always bear that in mind and keep on keeping it real.
Well said
Irwin Kennon: Thank you.
I am pretty sure my dad had both of those bows and I took the Bear Whitetail II to Quantico with me when I was in the Marine Corps in 93. Wish I still had it. My dad passed a few years ago.
Derek Forsting: When I went in the Marines in 1986, all the land around us was pretty much open. When I got back in 1990, everything was a hunting club. Anyway, we had a bow or two around like those two, also.
I guess I just had to make an obligatory response since you mentioned the Marine Corps.
Hate to say it, but Hammer n Anvil sounds way cooler than wind bumping!
All I can hear is Thor asking, you want me to drop the hammer?
Thanks to all the Uncle Rays. I encourage you to keep the tradition alive by introducing a youth to the passion of hunting. Thanks
Take your kids hunting and you won't have to hunt for your kids.
My uncle Tom took me when I was 12 years old by canoe into an area to bow hunt and camp for 5 days. I felt like Danielle Boone. Thanks for the memories fellows. R.I.P. Uncle Tom.
When Bear Archery was still in Grayling Michigan, my grandfather would have breakfast with Fred Bear every weekend at a little dinner in town.
One of my favorite videos y’all’ve ever done. Get him on an episode!
I'll be pre-ordering my hammer and anvil THP t-shirt when they're on the site
I'd order 🔨 and anvil THP shirt. I'LL take one!☝️
Me too please!!! Would make for a cool one...
Are they really going to make the shirt?
Maybe if they get enough “pre-orders”, they’ll have no choice...
Josh Makes Movies where can you preorder? Just in the comments section here?
Without question the best non kill video of your channel, that's my family as well the history is everything , think of more of those in the future 👍👍👍🇺🇸
Baddazzrider Turner I agree with you one hundred percent, just more evidence these boys get what it’s all about.
Another example of what sets THP apart from the other people producing videos/hunting shows. The realism, the authenticity, the common man approach and the fact that it isn't all about high dollar leases, sponsorship ads and guided trips is what makes THP so relatable and interesting for everyone to tune in.
Please don't ever change your real world format. You guys kick ***!
This is why I like your channel. I'm a 51 year old Missouri boy and still live for bow season. Happy huntin, boys.
My grandpa, my dad and me all bow and rifle hunt. Three generations hunting together. Videos like this capture the memories hunting brings. Keep up the awesome work
I would love to see more of Ray! He seams like the kinda guy who shares nothing but kindness and knowledge.
Absolutely loved seeing the "old breed" juxtaposed against the "new breed." Exactly like you said, the equipment might change, but we're still killing them the same way. The old pictures are awesome: flannel, denim, wool, etc. Goes to show a lot of hunting is wind, location, and maybe a lil' luck. Keep the content coming. You boys are magicians when it comes to putting out content!
You would never find an awesome video like this on TV. This is why you guys are the best. And I can relate to your uncle as I am a father of 3. Got to save money when I can. Thanks for this pure gold video!!!
Thank you uncle Ray! Without you we might not have #THP
Uncle Ray is a cool guy! Love hearing old hunting stories.
Everyone that's had a mentor like this shouldn't take them for granted. I grew up with nothing like it and have had to learn just about everything myself. the internet's been a great resource and a friend's father taught me some, but to have grown up in it could only make a giant difference. Love the content as always
Great idea Aaron, this is what hunting is all about , the memories, the family, and good times even when times were hard , thank you for sharing, very emotional experience with your wonderful family.
My dad , grandpa and uncles planted the hunted bug in me when I was young . Now it’s a disease that eats away my brain every fall !!! 🤘🏻
Alot like my family. Nothing I looked forward to more than the hunting trips with my uncle's when I was 10. Load up on wheelers and hit the ridge.
I’m 56 my first bow also was a bear whitetail 2. What a dinosaur 😂😂😂
Thanks for the walk down memory lane!!
Aaron, love your uncle Ray!!! He reminds so much of my old mentors. He’s story of having to raise a family and not having a lot of money to go on hunts out of state rings so true with me. Keep up the good work!! I love watching your videos.
That’s what makes hunting so good . Sharing family memories .
Thank you for sharing .
I am a Missouri hunter. Love what y’all are doing. Going back to basics!!! Hunted public most of my life. Don’t need certain camo, and everything else big business what’s you to believe you need!
Man.. that was a great video. Thank you for reminding me of how important my uncle was on getting me into deer hunting. Cherish your time with the old timers.. they are gone before you're ready
Aaron should step up his beard game to match uncle Ray's.
1996 was the year I started deer hunting in Illinois. This video takes me back. Starting to feel old though. I still work on Bear Whitetail 2s. And I used to have one of those green fiberglass recurves.
Great segment with your Uncle Ray! Awesome to see what hunting was like back in the 90's and where some of our traditions and methods come from.
Nothing better than hunters histories. Good job
Take uncle Ray hunting with you! Great video.
I love your channel. As many others have said, I really can relate to these videos. This all feels so genuine because it is genuine. I'm so sick of the made for TV hunts. They are so boring. Mostly, it's all money shots. Your video feel like I'm right there with you
Classic. This brings back so many memories of my own mentors and early days of Whitetail hunting. I love the stories. Thank you.
Really enjoyed the visit with e uncle , I too grew up going to deer camp , nothing like it. Thankful I had a father with a passion for hunting.
What an awesome video, interviewing your Uncle Ray! That is so cool that you both had an article in the same magazine years apart. Uncle Ray definitely has some great wallhangers!
Very nice to hear Uncle Ray talking
about hunting in day gone by,and to see the pics of a young Aaron along with his memories.
Got to be my favorite video you all have put out. So awesome to recognize our mentors that got us in to this amazing sport. Keep up what yall are doing!!
Such and awesome video, nice job. Brings out the culture and camaraderie of hunting, goes way beyond the act of hunting itself. You guys should do more of this, imagine if you all did stories on different deer camps and told their own stories!!!
Great video. Excellent job on showing the meaning of hunting with family and sharing the experiences of season's past. Look forward to our rifle season just to hear the stories and tales of years past from my grandpa and uncles
Incredible stuff, guys! I love the old school photos and stories. The nostalgia just washes over me!
Great channel. Like the passion . Trophy is in the eye of the beholder an when ya work hard to get it makes it all the sweeter. Friends an Family an all the memories are priceless. Keep the passion an the drive
Here is what I think going hunting with anyone with THP would be very nice, but getting to go with uncle Ray just one time would be priceless.
Enjoyed the stories from Uncle Ray. Always fun hearing stories from the veteran hunters.
Deer season where I live only lasts 3 months. The memories you make hunting with family and friends last a lifetime, this is what it's all about!! Great stroll down memory lane
I always love hearing old hunting stories. Reminds me of my grandpa and uncles
Being older, love nostalgia. I hate to admit, you youngsters have gone a long way! Thanks for all you do.
Uncle Ray is what made this video worth it old stories real times getting paid too hunt is different like he said
I love talking with the old timers. They have a wealth of knowledge that you can tap into. Y'all should do something like that for everyone in the group.
Great stories by uncle Ray. We need a lot more uncle Ray's in the hunting world! I do believe that Aaron got a little more southern (with his accent) during this video .
Ok new challenge...old bear bow, no cams, screw in sights like i grew up on, aluminum fat shafts, 100 grain wasp or thunderhead broadhead and cobra rest...come on you have too
Really I just killed a deer with a similar setup last weekend, the old stuff can still get it done
Thunderheads are deadly
@Robert Curtin You mean those things are caused by older bows? Who knew?
@Robert Curtin grew up killing deer with that set up...just have to put the arrow were it needs to go and you wont have long recoverys or weak blood
My greatest memories of hunting were from my grandpa's hunting camp! It's gone now and i miss it so much! Thanks for bringing me down memory lane!
I knew I recognized that stump filled water it’s mark twain lake just past Monroe city there is a boat ramp and parking lot right off the main road right there!!!! You boys in my neck of the woods!!
Cool to see Aarons Uncle and his predecessor in bow hunting. Some damn giants on them walls.
Just a family tradition.great video. nice to see where you got your inspiration and love for whitetail hunting. Can't wait for next video as always stay safe and straight arrows.
This the best video y’all have put out it has deep roots awesome I’m 64 and love the way u went back to ur uncle
What puts you guys above the rest is exactly what this episode is all about! Thanks for posting this and for bringing us along!
You have truly been blessed to have family who have molded you into the person and hunter you are today! Your uncle was correct.....equipment changes but the passion stays the same!
Great video! Brings back lots of memories with the bear whitetail hunter bow. I still have mine and I painted it by hand in a treebark camo pattern. Those bucks Jill harvested are brutes! Congratulations Jill! Keep them coming you guys are really the best channel out there!
That was sweet going down memory lane, and seeing where it all started with Aaron. Plus your uncle ray has killed some mega whitetails
I must say I am a sucker for old deer camp stories. This guys has to be one of my favorites videos you guys have posted,. It was nice to see your uncle and hear some of the stories about your family hunting together as you wa a young man growing up. Fun stuff my friend. I am super happy to see your uncle is still healthy and doing well. Your cousin, got some really nice trophies this past year as well. Thanks again for taking the time to make and share this video with us. PS congrats on being the same magazine your uncle was in many many years ago, that makes more sense why you had it in your hadn't at the beginning of this video, nice foreshadowing if you don't mind me saying so.
Thanks again guys and have a greta hunt.
dale
Respect to Uncle Ray ! Love hearing the old stories. ❤️
I read the article you guys were in and that's how I heard about you a few days ago. Been watching a lot of your videos since then trying to soak up as much as I can. Last year I started trying to hunt big rolling hills and drop offs on state land, and a lot of what you guys talk about and describe is stuff I saw, and now it's starting to make sense. Hopefully i have half the success you guys do this year lol. Thank you!
Uncle Ray is priceless, I can relate to all his gear and passion, good for you guys for honoring him.
Thanks for sharing Uncle Ray and his stories.
Aaron, your uncle is awesome👍 I'm so thankful for all the uncles out there 🇺🇸
Very cool listening to the stories. I'm about the same age as your uncle and huge bow hunting fanatic. This got me to take down my whitetail 2 from the attic, it's also set up for bow fishing ha ha. Keep the cool content coming, it's not always about the hunting content but the love of the sport, the outdoors and the memories of hunting with family and friends and their experiences. I just subscribed a little while back still catching up on your videos.
Another great video. Not much hunting, but nothing beats listening to some good ole hunting stories!! Keep em coming!!
One of the best hunting public episodes ever. I really enjoy hearing old timers share their stories and Whitetail intelligence
Its great to hear the old timers tell their stories. They had to be successful with alot less techy tools and they still got it done. It was definitely a simpler time. Now alot of people want to argue why what they use is better and blah blah blah. I just like the simple primitive concept of hunting. I got to watch a lone doe eat the other day and I just let her walk because it was such a great morning...that might change in a few weeks
Love THP videos! This is a great video with great old memories! Uncle Ray is really awesome, love his stories! Reminds me a lot of my dad and uncle that all us kids started hunting. My dad shot his biggest buck ever back in 1987 with an old bear whitetail ll here in SW Mo, wish I could share his pic on here of it with you guys. Thank you for all your great videos. Good luck here in Mo.. Hope to meet you guys out in the woods at deer camp sometime!
Aaron, you & your family & Associates are great people in this Industry!!!!!!
Could watch uncle Ray tell hunting stories for hours
Best episode yet. Love the history. Its everything
Really enjoyed that video. I'm from Macon, MO and it is amazing the similarities between your family and mine. That hit right at home
Great episode!!!
I recall that article back when I received NAW and lived in IL living and breathing whitetails. At one time, I had about 10 years worth of them. I believe that old stand was a Loc-On and I owned several of them late 80s through 90s. I still have three in the garage that never get used now that I'm West.
Great history story nearly brought me to tears as we lost our father 30 years ago. Once he was gone hunting kinda wasent the same but I'm trying to keep it alive in our family. Thanks! Just a side note those thumb down folks have no soul.
I miss hunting with my uncle's man thats what its all about .im glad i still get to gowith my old man . family friends and the great outdoors thanks for that you guys are awesome keep up the great work
Awesome video. Made me think of hunting and fishing as kid with my grandfather.
Great video guys 👍. All about friends, family and the memories
One of my favorite vids. I love Nostalgia!!!!!
Great video with your uncle sounds like the way I grew up and got into hunting
Good memories and some great looking deer. Thanks for sharing
I loved the trip down memory lane. Ray is one cool dude. Awesome video guys. Keep up the good work.
Awesome video. Loved the family interview! I remember those magazines in the 90's. Most of us old school bow hunters started out with Bear. It would be cool to do a retro hunt. I remember my Bear Whitetail bow. Two small wheels, and two on the riser that could change poundage... So loud sounded like a helicopter taking off when I shot, lol... T Bone from Realtree used one about 10/15 years ago... Oh the memories.... Far cry from the Bowtechs and bows of today.....
God bless y'all!
I just simply don't know how one could not love you guys and your content! You capture it all!
Great video, I like the old guys hunting style just like my GP they prove you can be a minimalist hunter and still kill deer. No camo on and they still slayed'em!
That brought back memories. My first stand was a homemade wood lock on and used screw in steps to get in.
Good stuff fellas, good families good times n good memories, priceless!!!... 👍🏻👊🏻keep on keeping on brothers ❤️🕊2yas
Your Uncle Ray Rocks! Sounded like a Great man to learn from.
This is perhaps, your best show ever. I think that it would be great if one of your hunts featured your Uncle Ray. Family hunting together with the entire HUNTING PUBLIC crew would be a wonderful event.
Uncle Ray is an amazing man. Loved the interview with him.
He remains me of my late father.
Reminds me of my uncle Wayne. My father never did much hunting after I was born.
I could watch these kinds of videos every week...thanks for the video guys!
Wow I live in pike county Missouri! right next too pike County Illinois great hunting here..
Awesome video man, definitely shows what the true meaning of hunting is and the memories that last a lifetime
This absolutely made my day!
I knew you (Aaron) were from northern MO, but didn't know exactly where. During the video, when you first said you were stopping by your Uncle Ray's place to visit, the first person who popped into my mind was him. Naw, couldn't be. Then bam! It was him!!
I haven't seen or talked to Ray in several years. It was great to "see" him again and hear the stories. Tell him "Hello!" from PB, MO.
Keep up the great work THP.
"...having nice stuff is great, but you don't have to have it to hunt" You have to love that! Great video, THP!
That was a great video. Enjoyed listening to your uncle Ray
Awesome story! Thanks Aaron!
Awesome video , really enjoyed it. Brought me back to the good ol days
Great vid...nothing like reliving the old days
