I always felt save. Mexicans are very kind, friendly and well mannered. As far as I have heard, the biggest crime problem, apart form the drug cartels, is the widespread corruption and extortion. A plight people in most countries south of the US have to live with. I guess this is less of a problem when visiting, but a deal breaker when you want to open a (local) business.
My daughter and I got caught in a random shooting on a Saturday at a coffee shop in our neighborhood surrounded by million dollar homes in our “safe” suburb. From under a table while my daughter and surrounding children screamed in terror I decided it was time to leave. Moving to Mexico in 72 days!!!!

My husband and I have lived in Chapala mexico, near Guadalajara for 12 years. We are from Texas and both have licenses to carry a gun in Texas. Weve never felt the need here to have a gun although we can. But each year when we visit the states at Christmas we ALWAYS carry. In the states, random shootings are happening all the time. Innocent people including children being killed. Mexicans do have guns for self protection. Most of our Mexican friends do. Here the crime is Cartel on Cartel. There was an incident many years ago of a child being abused sexually and killed in Guadalajara. The neighbors came together and hung the guy. The police applauded them. One of our friends was a member of a group in the neighborhood that would beat up the men in their area that were beating their wives. There is alot of vigilante justice here, which I think in many ways is good as in the US, many criminals get a good lawyer and get off. Weve never felt unsafe here, In fact we feel much safer and have no plans of moving back to the US, not just because of the crime there but also because of all the incredible Communism and Marxism that is developing there in the US. We have many many Canadians living here also that literally escaped Canada during the so called pandemic and never plan to go back. We have the 2nd best weather in the world and our social security goes ALOT further. The Cartels keep the government here in check and vice versa.....lol.....The Cartels at Christmas buy the poor children gifts and food for the poor. Yes they are bad but in the years Ive lived here I have never ever heard of anyone going into a church, school, business or park and just shooting innocent people. It is usually being associated with a cartel member and being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I live in KC too and someone asked me if I feel safe when I'm in Mexico and I say...YES! I feel more unsafe here in the USA because I don't know the people around me and I don't know when a crazy person will start shooting but when I'm in Mexico in my town I know some people and I don't feel like any one will start shooting just because

I visit all the time. Many of my friends are skeptical, but I always tell them to go but just avoid sketchy places and don't do anything stupid like flashing money, doing drugs, getting in fights. It's the same thing I would tell anyone wanting to go to NY, LA, London, Rome, and I would assume the same with many other cities/ countries.
We just spend 10 days in Mexico city. We stayed in Roma Norte. We walked around all day till late at night all over the place. Never felt unsafe or saw anything suspicious. We've been to Mexico many times and never had a bad experience. I totally agree with your analysis.

That's fair. I personally never felt "unsafe" there, but Sin City has earned it's name. Between the alcohol consumption and gambling, people can get quite tense!
I have travelled in Mexico extensively throughout my life and have never felt unsafe. Sure, there are situations in some of the tourist areas where you could fall for some of the local scams but being aware and intelligent in your surroundings will guarantee your safety. I love Mexico and the culture of its people. Merida and the Yucatan Coast are beautiful and I am looking forward to living there soon. If you have any indifferences about Mexico, it’s most likely due to negative press coming from those that have never been to Mexico our are biased based on American based opinions. If you ever get the opportunity to visit Mexico, please do so and see for yourself! Mi encanta Mexico!
4 weeks into our trip. First 3 in Merida and the last week Puerto Vallarta. Never felt unsafe anywhere in the Yucatan. Puerto Vallarta so far so good however have been sticking close to beach as thats where the beach is 😅

The Chiefs parade was a horrible, evil situation. Keep in mind though that since the Royals won in 2015, Kansas City has been the host to 4 world championship parades with 4 million people attending over all of those events. Before the last moments of this last parade everything was peaceful. This time it took two stupid, idiotic juveniles less than a minute to stain a city. I refuse to give up on millions because two people are evil. The United States is an amazing country, which is why so many people flock to it and wish for the American Dream. Ask people from the countries they're fleeing from, and I'll bet they praise the US. I love Mexico and I love the USA, people should realize how lucky they are to have a choice between two of the best countries in the world.

I have been in both tourist and not tourist areas and I feel safe. People is nice and kind. What he say on his video in minute 10:30 is so true

Actually the only place where one time i felt unsafe and probably never go back is LAS VEGAS NEVADA...
