when I was a child, I lived with my uncle, a very talented sculptor, painter and musician. at that time, every morning I would jump out of bed with joy to run to the workshop and see what's new.from those years, I have a longing for sculpture in my heart.especially the simple one, with the use of simple tools, even folkloric.this movie inspired me today I can and I have time to come back to that.👍😁

Se puede usar casi cialquier madera, algunas con mejor cualidad que otra. En este video es roble rojo, pero para empezar te recomiendo tilo o cedro. Saludos.

@@CharlyBrunetSculpture thanks for replying. I made my comment about 5 or so minutes in when it truly looked like an Easter Island statue replica. I didn’t’ try get to watch the whole video yet. I thought it was amazing how simple you made it look to get started. My uncle, thirty plus years ago used to carve American cowboys from cedar. I always wanted to get into it, but my OCD perfectionist attitude won’t let me. If the nose was slightly off, I’d keep going until there was nothing left but shavings to start a fire with.
😄 perfectionism is important but you have to know how to dose it. Not all noses are straight, some are crooked and that is what gives your characters personality. Too much perfection can look synthetic.

Yes, you are right, but I currently live in Peru, there is no basswood here. I could buy on Amazon but it's very expensive for just a few pieces. Back in Europe I will return to the basswood since they even throw it away. The softest and easiest wood to find here is ficus.

@@CharlyBrunetSculpture Прекрасно понимаю. Потому как то же люблю резать твёрдые породы древесины. Поэтому написал. Тонкое лезвие и заточку линзой. Либо плавная линза от обуха к лезвию в 0 заточка. Правка на доске с наклеенной кожей, натуральной грубой тканью, ремнём - стропой. Клинок обязательно полированный. Очень хорошее глубокое плавное врезание. Будто холодное масло нарезаешь. Такое снятие стружки будет. Плавное и без рывков. Чем тоньше лезвие тем меньше сопротивление врезания инструмента. Сталь на усмотрение. Но рекомендую сталь с углеродом до 0,8% и кремнием до 3% хром от 5 до 9 %. Простенький состав но режет замечательно. Перечислять сталь не буду крайне большой список будет.

Si, la simetría es algo difícil al empiezo. Ayudante con herramientas como la regla y el compás para ver que tienes que modificar de ambos lados.

El pino no es muy facil, sobre todo si tiene cuchillo mal afilado. Te recomiendo el cedro o el tilo entre otros.

I think it’s oak. Whatever it is it’s not very soft. Why not use basswood, would be quite a bit easier to carve.
