I'm so glad y'all liked it! I love corn bread with butter and honey. The beans in chili is more of a personal preference thing. I always put beans in my chili because that's how I like it.
I'm a native Texan, and while I NEVER make chili with beans in it, I often eat my chili with beans added to it, just as I sometimes add chopped onion, shredded cheddar, or cooked rice to the bowl. It just depends on my mood an what leftovers might be around. In fact, leftover chili ladled onto a spinach and cheese omelette with leftover cornbread on the side makes a fine breakfast!
Born in Texas but raised in Wyoming from 1975 to present. I love chili. Especially my favorite with beans. But I hate real onions and real garlic but I used garlic seasoning and flake onions in a jar. But anyway I tried cornbread chili before, but wasn't to fan of it. I rather dip crackers in chili. LOL.
You could have cornbread with butter, you could have cornbread with butter and honey, you definitely want cornbread with butter on the side of chili. Those are just a few things. Enjoy.
As I posted elsewhere this is Carne sin Chili (Meat without (chili) beans). This is indeed popular in Texas. This is in contrast with Chili con Carne ((Chili) Beans with meat) or just Chili with has no meat.
My family usually does ham and bean soup with cornbread. Also, every chili I had growing up had beans in it. That's both homemade and canned from the grocery store.
I haven't had chili with beans in maybe 20 years. Homemade without beans, and a couple canned without beans. It is better that without the beans - and your nose/SO/family is happier too...
I love cornbread and the Jiffy you showed in the beginning is a staple. Every New Years day we do black eyed peas, greens, and cornbread (Jiffy with butter and honey). It's a southern tradition my family has done every year for as long as I can remember and it brings health, wealth and happiness in the new year. Something new for your family to try possibly.
I was told many years ago since "Chili" came from the South - Texas, New Mexico, etc, that it was derivative of the Mexican Chili Dishes, they did not add beans. But beans are high in protein and so many people started adding those especially if they couldn't afford much meat to do the dish. I like both styles. Though you do get gas attacks with the beans...
Nothing is better than cornbread, black eyed peas, some fresh fried chicken. A meal my late grandmother would cook often, all from scratch with no recipe. Old school.
I'm 70 years old and my mother taught me to make chili with beans. I've never even ordered chili at a restaurant that didn't have beans. I'm sure there are regions in the US that eat it without, but it is just as common to eat with. I grew up in Indiana. I have lived in New Mexico. They had beans in their chili. I make that and we call it chili pie. I like corn muffins and usually add a small can of creamed corn to the batter. The other meal I eat that has to include corn bread is ham and beans.
I've never seen chili as an entree without beans. Chili as a topping like on hot dogs or something doesn't have beans, but that's like a condiment, not an entree.
@@undie3x7it’s a Texas thing. The very name “Chile con Carne” translates to “chili with meat.” There’s obviously no mention of beans but that’s become the norm outside of Texas (where chili originated) P.S. the meat need not be beef nor even ground meat.
@santamanone umm I'm a Texan from San Antonio. Chili originated in Mexico, not Texas. I'm a chef here and obviously learned to make chili here. Chili con carne, which is typically just a topping(condiment) for tamales or enchiladas etc, typically doesn't have beans in it but can include beans. Even back in the 1800's could include beans. Chili served as a stew/soup(entree) typically does have beans in it. As for your point chili con carne name does not mention beans. It doesn't mention tomatoes or onions either but they are also part of it. Just cuz it isn't in the name doesn't mean anything. The name just conveys what is the main or most prevalent ingredient, which in any form is the meat.
@@undie3x7 sorry if I gave the wrong impression, I agree with you. Texas itself came from Mexico and it can be hard to separate them, especially the overlap in cuisine.
This is so interesting. I’ve never had a dish like that. We always grew up with a bowl of chili (with beans) and a side of cornbread or a cornbread muffin. 😋 That looks yummy though!
@@mikekelly5491 I wonder why your family/friends called it "tamale pie". Not much that's tamale about it. Because the early origins of the dish were Mexican, I guess?
Corn bread is, normally, made separately from the chili. That said I have had it the way you made it with my homemade, left over, chili and it was amazing. P.S. cowboy cornbread! Finally remembered what cornbread/chili was called 😊
Yeah I am not a corn bread person but I thought it was more of a separate food not some topping or covering something else. But I wasn't sure. I thought something wasn't right there.
From TX here, and the joke is if you put beans in your chili, it's soup. Actually, putting beans in, either black, pinto, kidney, is an excellent way to stretch it and keep the protein levels up. When I make the dish you've made today, I do put beans in. I enjoy watching you and your family have such a great time trying new things, and the fact that your two children are so willing!!! Keep up the great videos!
I'm a chef from San Antonio, and I actually put 6 different beans in mine(black, pinto, red, dark and light red kidney and Northern lol). If I'm eating chili, the only thing that goes with it is cornbread, so it's gonna be "hearty" lol. If it doesn't have beans, it's a condiment.
You can’t beat cornbread baked in a cast iron skillet with heaps of butter, and topped with honey. 🤤 Next time, I’ll have to try it baked with the chili. Looks yummy :)
My favorite part of these videos is watching how much genuine enjoyment your family experiences with each other. You put the "fun" into "functional family."
Agreed! All the comments are talking about chili and cornbread, but all I could focus on is how truly wholesome and beautiful their whole family is. A lot of "perfect families" on social media are completely fake but you can tell that Sam and Nadine have created a genuine and healthy beautiful family dynamic and I'm so glad they share it with us.
My mom never made chili with beans because my dad and my siblings were so picky, but I love it with beans AND spaghetti noodles. Both are a highly debated, but to each their own! Chili is always amazing!
My entire family puts beans in our chili, sometimes several kinds! 😁 I think it's a regional and taste preference thing, as well as a great way to stretch your budget! We cook our cornbread separately, then crumble a hunk in a bowl and add chili and fixings like cheese, sour cream, or salsa on top! Delicious!
I grew up with beans in my chili. Like other's have said, it depends on your family tradition. Corn bread is usually served on the side with butter, but I have also seen it used as a topper for a dish or two. Looks awesome!
I love cornbread! I'm from Southern America. So we have it three ways: we have the sweet kind, the regular kind, and then we have the spicy kind... But I would prefer to have bread with my chili. It's just a totally different taste... But you have to have cornbread with the collards and mustard greens and black eyed peas FYI or two versions of chili: Texans say no beans, and the rest usually say beans. I always say beans unless I'm putting it on my hot dog.
@@GUNSnBACON318 have you ever taken your day old cornbread slice it in half, put butter on it and then fry it in the skillet ? That's really good... You can do the same thing with day old cake donuts... Both are awesome!
@@GUNSnBACON318there is a diner on by some great people near me, and with the Fried Chicken, you get the jalapeno cornbread. It's okay! The best part is that they Grill it before they bring it out to you, so it's warm and crusty
When I was going to see my friend in Australia for the first time, we were deciding what I should bring to cook, and we ruled out red beans and rice and cornbread because I was afraid of the weight of my cast iron skillet, and her comment was “Well, I have a bread machine.” Her American husband and I burst out laughing at the same time, and she said, “What did I say?” 😂😂😂
Yes! Don't know if you would want to try this, but I found a recipe for cornbread where you add a can of creamed corn in with it. It was called campfire cornbread.
I live in the South, and we always put beans in our chili, but it's really up to the person who is making the chili. I don't think I know of anyone around here that does not put beans in their chili. Fun video!!!
Cornbread Yankee Style: Fried, not baked, in a cast iron pan, in the same manner and shape as a pancake, then split open, and a layer of navy beans and ham placed on top, with chopped onion, pepper, and ketchup😊.
Another meal you can have corn bread with is fried fish, fried shrimp & other fried seafood. The cornbread is made into small balls 1 " in diameter; then fried in oil and served with honey butter. Called "hush puppies" - a southern side dish/bread.
As a Texan it warms my heart to see you really enjoy cornbread. When you do cornbread muffins, be sure to try them with butter and honey. My dad always ate them with butter and maple syrup or jam. With the chili, you can always add grated sharp cheddar cheese, avocado or diced green onions too. Great video! Thank you. P.S. sorry I forgot to add that if you take a bit of softened butter and grease whichever pan you're using for cornbread, it will give you a nice browned and crunchy crust on the outside. It's really delicious.
My mom's family likes to mix peanut butter and maple syrup together and eat it with cornbread mixed in as a fully meal. I am allergic to corn, so I'd always eat PB and maple syrup on toast whenever we'd have that. Delicious. Can't remember my Dad's family ever eating cornbread except at Thanksgiving; we always made cornbread dressing (with hamburger meat in it). Lol
Mom would always start the chili in the morning and let it cook all day. (We always knew what she was making because she prepared the beans the night before.) About 4 she would start getting things ready for cornbread. A hot stew with either beef or deer meat, spicy, with cornbread and milk. Favorite comfort food from my childhood.
Yeah its a side dish in the south. Hot cornbread is amazing. It takes years to get it down and establish your recipe. My grandmother had amazing recipe that noone could repeat. My mom's was second behind granny's. My sister loves it the next morning in milk. I have never had chili or anything inside my cornbread. I've had it at every family get to gather that's 1000s of pieces. Beans in chili is very common in the US. I would say 99% of the chili I've eaten had beans. Cornbread without the crispy outer and bottom is just wrong.
Y’all’s meal looked amazing! I’m so glad you liked it. In certain parts of the US they add a lot of sugar to their cornbread but it’s also a family preference like adding pinto beans or kidney beans to chili. To get veggies into my family, I shred celery, carrots, and zucchini squash in our food processor really fine and add it to the onions, garlic & ground beef. The chili seasoning and ground beef hide the veggies so no one notices them lol
This is a CRAZY weird coincidence. I messaged you on patreon yesterday or the day before talking about how my brother introduced me to your channel before he passed away and how much your content means to me, and got a lovely message back from Sam...The funny thing is though, that cornbread and chilli was his favorite meal (no beans for him unless he could also add hotdog to it). It's super surreal to get this notification immediately after that. I think my brother is sending a sign that y'all are my kind of people ❤
@@TobyCatVA thank you so much! the message I received from Sam was absolutely lovely and truly showed me that this family is exactly who they say they are. They're all filled with so much love and openness and Light that watching this channel really has been one of the only ways for me to feel fully connected with my brother without feeling sad... Instead I feel happy and joyful and filled with gratitude for these four people all the way across the world from me who brought my brother and myself so much joy even when he was in so much pain. ❤️❤️
I'm from the South and I was told my whole life that authentic chili is made with beans along with all of the aromatics and the peppers and tomatoes but NO MEAT at all. The recipe was developed and became popular in the late '20s and early '30s during the the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl in the Southwestern Great Plains region of the US. Beans were a cheap and more readily available protein at a time when meat was scarce. Chili was a nutritious meal that could feed a large family and not break the bank. Chili with meat is called "chili con carne" (Spanish for Chili with meat) and it has both beans and meat. I was taught that Texans are the ones who tend to insist that it's made with meat and no beans, mainly because they're a major beef producer and making their chili with meat only, is a way to promote the beef industry. It always made perfect sense to me. 🤷🏼♀️
My husband introduced me to this dish his family calls it chili pie. He is from TN and I grew up in Ohio. My mother always made cornbread in a bread loaf pan and would add 1 cup of sugar to it and it was more like a cake. We always ate it with butter and syrup (Yankee version!!!)
My mother and I are born and raised Texans. And Chili is it's own food group in Texas. My mother's chili always had red kidney beans and to this day it is still my favorite...with buttered cornbread. But just plain beans boiled all day with a slab of bacon and some fresh made cornbread is heaven❤ So don't believe those 'no-beaners', they are just busy hollerin' "NO BEANS" while the rest of us are busy eating😂
Absolutely! Beans BELONG in chili. Chili was invented as a poor man's food because meat was expensive, so beans were used as a filler and to add protein. The "no beaners" are just ignorant of history.
I found this online: "Texas Chili: No Beans Allowed Carol Hancock, President and CEO of the International Chili Society, makes a good case for why there are no beans found in true Texas chili: because that is just the way it is. “I think there is probably no consensus on one idea (of what defines chili), but the reason why we don’t allow beans in chili is number one: real Texas chili has always been known as meat and the sauce with peppers,” Hancock said. “Beans don’t come into play at the cook off because if our judges are trying to determine a taste, beans are a dominant flavor and we wouldn’t get the pure chili taste.”
Warm cornbread with butter and jelly 🤤🤤😋😋😋😋.. my dad was born and raised in a small town here in Ga called Carrollton. He eas very very poor. Cornbread was cheap to make. I grew up on it myself. I remember my dad eating cornbread and buttermilk like it was ice cream. I love it with just regular milk sprinkled with a little sugar. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I grew up in southern California. We called corn bread baked on chili "Tamale Pie". I love chili with or with out beans, and corn bread anyway you can cook it. On top of chili for a tamale pie, baked plain, with cheese and green chiles and fresh or frozen corn (all 3 or just one). I often cook the cornbread separately and serve a slice in a bowl with the chili poured on top.
@@johnchastain7890 True, but you shouldn't expect not to be corrected when you call chicken pot pie chicken and dumplings. Both are good, but they aren't the same. A vegetarian can have cornbread, but they certainly cannot have this.
@@FairyNiamh1977 Wait till these Kiwis get to the USA and find out how many chili recipes and cornbread styles there are! And as for spoonbread... well that's a whole other thing. ;-)
Saftey concern, using towels to take something out of a hot oven. Long towel will make contact with a hot burner and catch fire. Use oven mits or oven pads that will protect you from the heat.
Cornbread is so good especially using cream corn in the recipe makes it's super moist Cornbread with honey on top as a snack and a tiny bit of butter so good ❤
Add cream corn, cup of cheddar cheese, half cup cottage cheese, cayenne pepper, diced green onions and sweet red peppers sauteed in butter. Sooo delicious.
So glad you all liked the chili and cornbread. Here in the south we call that tamale pie and we sometimes add diced tomatoes and green chili peppers then a layer of cheese before the cornbread. If we need to make it go further we add the dark red chili beans. You can also make it this way with taco meat and sloppy joe meat, basically any type of meat sauce you want.
Well, that's definitely a new one for me, lol. Never seen cornbread made like that. When Americans talk about cornbread (especially Southerners) we're talking about just the bread used as a side. Definitely should try this again with a proper Southern cornbread recipe.
There are two types of cornbread. Sweet and dry as the desert. The only real difference is you add sugar to the sweet cornbread. Personally I like the sweet cornbread,it's not sweet like a cake it just has a hint of sweetness. When I was a kid I'd put the leftover sweet corn bread in a bowl and pour some milk over it and maybe add some slices of banana.
Chili and cornbread is one of my favorite meals! Sometimes I make my cornbread in muffin tins but more often I make it in a wrought iron skillet. We use it as a side for soups, stews, a big pot of beans etc. Serve it hot and spread with butter! It's also wonderful with butter and honey or jam! One other way I make it is as a casserole for holiday meals. You use the Jiffy box mix and mix in shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, a can of sweet corn and a can of creamed corn and bake it in a casserole dish. It's a family favorite!
I prefer it as a side dish. Goes with almost anything. Many restaurants in the US will offer muffins with the meals. The cream corn is my favorite. Was at someone’s house for dinner and their corn bread had the cream corn, but also had a small mix of the early peas and diced carrots! Had my doubts but it was really good! My dad , from rural Tennessee, his favorite meal was Ham, black eyed peas, collard greens, and corn bread! Enjoy Y’all!!! 🇺🇸
Corn Bread is typically a side dish, like having a dinner roll or bread with a meal. The next time you make CORN BREAD, either use a muffin/cup cake pan or just pour the batter into a cast iron skillet and bake it in that, then when its done, you just slice it into wedges like a cake/pie, and eat it while its still warm, with lots of butter. Honey goes well on corn bread too!
And be sure to have oil in that skillet and preheat it until it is really hot so that the batter sizzles when you pour it in! That makes the outside nice and crunchy! Add lots of butter just before you eat it! Yum!
In Southern states, especially with families who have a limited food budget, cornbread and pinto beans show up on the table regularly. The beans are slow cooked for hours, then when ready to serve you slice open a piece of cornbread and pour the beans over it. Toppings include diced onion, ketchup, or diced peppers. Sides are fried potatoes or perhaps fried okra and green tomatoes fresh from the garden. Ate an awful lot of it growing up!😁
@@CliffordHill-mt1lw Very filling and satisfying and the beans are a source of protein. I still have my grandmother's cast iron mold that turned the batter into little ears of corn. Crispy crust, they pair nicely hot with butter and honey
@@ecclesrice9789 Sometimes I get a bone in ham at the store, after slicing it into ham steaks there's still quite a bit of meat left on the bone. My friend gets it for her bean pot. Gives them a bit more flavor

My chili isn’t chili without beans. I put light and dark kidney beans in my mine. Everyone loves it. And I’ve made this all over the US. But I’ve had chili without beans but prefer ones with beans.
So many different things you can add to make it your own. Honey on top of the corbread, different vegetables inside the chili, various meats.... whatever! Very versatile dish happy ya liked it!
Great video as usual. I am from Tennessee and we use beans in our chili. We call chili without beans, hot dog sauce. So, I'm definitely team beans. I have made that Chili cornbread casserole before though and I would top it with some shredded cheese, a spoonful of sour cream , and a few pickled jalapenos.
Personally, it just doesn't seem like chilli to me if it doesn't have beans. Lol I've had chilli without beans once. Hated it.. It's like eating a hotdog or a burger without a bun.
Have enjoyed cornbread my entire life! As a native Texan a common meal my Mom would make almost weekly was pinto beans, fried potatoes with onions and her from scratch cornbread in an Iron skillet. I can remember Mom & Dad putting a leftover piece of cornbread in a glass & pouring milk over it for a snack… never was my thing but it wasn’t bad. Been watching you guys for years & really enjoy your sweet family. Much Love from Texas❤️🇪🇺
you literally just described my and my wife's favorite thing I cook. Beans, cornbread, and fried potatoes, then cornbread and milk the next morning. The only thing I may do different is, I generally make the beans after I've smoked a ham, we cut the big chunks of meat off the bone, and then the rest of the meat, and bone goes into the pot before the beans. Cook it all night, and then make the fried potatoes and cast iron cornbread the next day to eat with it.
Yes! Even thinking about cornbread makes me crave Ham-N-Beans. It's gotta be homestyle slow cooked ham n beans, and not just canned beans with ham in it.
Y'all! Watching your family enjoy cooking and eating the food y'all make is such a wholesome experience! This is needed more in this world! And your kids have grown before our very eyes! Denzel does not look like the little kid I first saw almost 2 years ago! Bless you all, from Texas!!
Here in west Texas, we have cornbread with lots of stuff. My favorite is Cornbread with pinto beans and French fries. We always put a spoon full of sugar in the cornbread mix.
Pinto beans with whatever is left over of the ham/pork butt and the bones over fresh cornbread full of melted butter with a fresh, quartered sweet onion to be eaten raw with home fries on the side and a nice glass of iced tea is a pretty damn fine Sunday dinner. It doesn't look amazing, but it does taste that way and you will be full for days!
No Cornbread is mostly a side. Also, while it goes with a lot of stuff chilli isn't it's traditional pairing, chilli is mostly paired with a cinnamon roll or Corn Chips(Fritos). Cornbread for a *soup*pairing traditionally goes with Ham & Bean soup. 😁
There are several variations of cornbread and all of them are delicious. I love cornbread with barbecue, cornbread with blackeyed peas and stewed tomatoes, cornbread with fish and cole slaw. Etc. So glad you liked it! Blessings.
I’m about to lose my family to divorce and so I come here for a great big dose of family love and togetherness! It feels like a powerful vitamin B12 shot that’s all warm and tingly. Thank you family for making me smile when smiles are hard to come by! ❤
In the end, you'll be free to be you. Not that it's much consolation to you at the moment, and perhaps not what you'd be wanting to hear at this point.... But with time, you'll get better. You'll be better. I've honestly known very few divorcees that regretted the outcome in the long run.
! THAT ! IS ! NOT ! Cornbread and Julie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The cornbread should be cooked like a bread or a cake. Being its own individual thing. Then it can be placed into the chili or pour the chili over it. In addition regardless of what the false purists claim no being chili is a modern development made as a condiment is not real chili. True chili has kidney beans and no other beans and is also slightly soupy but only just a little. 🙀😾😾😾😿
@joshuabrown129 sorry, when you said South American I took that to be the continent of South America. Where I have never had red beans and rice by the way. I didn't realize you meant Southern US
I’ve put beans in my chili since I started making chili, my dad and grandma did it as well. I’ve also made meatless chili (just beans). Chicken or Turkey chili is called white chili and you use Navy or Great Northern beans.
We call that tamale pie in west Texas. It usually has a little more heat and spicy seasoning, but it's essentially the same. So glad you enjoyed it. If you make cornbread by itself, do bake it in cast iron. Put some shortening or oil in the skillet and heat it in the oven before putting the cornbread in. Flip it over when you take it out and it will have a nice crispy top. TFS.
I'm from Wyoming and we have always put beans in our chili. I don't think I've ever had chili without beans unless it is chili for hot dogs. We have ours with cinnamon rolls though. Cornbread is for ham and beans around here!
What’s funny is in Arizona we put beans in chili and it was funny to see someone wearing a Phoenix Suns shirt saying there isn’t supposed to be beans in chili.
Great video...Not all corn meal is created equal, so try different brands to see which you like the best. Also, see if you can find a classic Southern US Hushpuppie recipe. You will only regret not trying them.
I grew up on two types of cornbread: savory cornbread made from scratch (like you made it) and sweet cornbread (Jiffy Mix)... and I have to say that the sweet cornbread ended up being my favorite. Split a muffin halfway down the middle, add some salted butter, and its absolute heaven. I make cornbread three times a week in my house and there is NEVER any leftovers. Edit: Always bake your cornbread in a cast iron skillet, ALWAYS.
Another great mix is Zaterians-spelling likely wrong.. I like going from scratch but the wife needs gluten-free, with a mix I often add lots of extra cornmeal as most mixes are stingy on the meal, then more moisture is needed, so I dump in lots of apple sauce, I never measure, just add until the batter is right, a bit of cinnamon goes well, or get the applesauce with the Cin. I am already in it-lots of ways to go with it-we don't use sugar as I am diabetic-but Stevia works great- I like it better than sugar.
I put beans in my chili if it'sfor eating from the bowl or a frito chili pie. It's an inexpensive way to bulk it up & add protein. You can also use any Minced/ground meat (chicken, venison, lamb, turkey, etc). As with any recipe, make it your own.
From far western KY here, cornbread and white beans with ham is a staple. Also I make a jiffy cornbread casserole to serve with my chilli. It's sweet and cuts the acidity of the chilli well imo. Cornbread with butter and blackberry jam is one of life's greatest pleasures in my book. Enjoyed watching your first experience together. Sending major love to your family, been watching you all from the start 💙💯💯💙
We grew up with cornbread and chili. The chili had beans. It’s a personal preference thing, just like pineapple on pizza. People love it, people hate. When it comes to these things, live your dream, and don’t listen to anyone else.

Here is the recipe: 1 pound ground beef or turkey, 1 package Mexican cornbread mix (I use Martha White), 1 package Taco seasoning, 1 can Mexicorn or Southwest corn (you can use plain corn if you can't find the others), 1 can cream corn (this will go in your cornbread mix), 1 can of Ro Tel diced tomatoes with green chilies, 1 package cheddar cheese (I use a Mexican cheese blend). Brown your meat then add Taco seasoning as directed on package. Add in Mexicorn/Southwest corn and Ro Tel. Mix well then pour into your casserole dish. Top with half of your cheese. Make the cornbread as directed on package then add in the can of cream corn and stir well. Pour mixture over your meat and cheese then top with the rest of your cheese. Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes or until cornbread is done. You can also layer the meat mixture with cornbread mixture if you want your cornbread throughout. I hope you like it!
The corn dogs are coated with corn bread. It's literally the same thing that you just made. The corn dogs are deep fried. The corn bread is baked in the oven.

I grew up with pinto or great white beans cooked with either ham, hog jowl, or smoked sausage!! Cornbread with butters was always served with it!! Still one of my favorite meals!! Yours looked good!! Love from Missouri❤❤❤❤
I was hoping I wasn't the only one.....lol. This is something my dad used to do but he used buttermilk which I detest unless it's for baking purposes. So I used regular milk and it is good especially once it starts drying out some and instead of wasting it we had it this way. However cornbread is versatile and can be used a variety of ways like in hushpuppies, corndogs, stuffing etc...

Oh yeah, a great pairing.
We do beans and Ham Hocks.. Start in the morning eat that evening. Served with cornbread and honey butter..Yum Yum

Something new for your family to try possibly.
ditto and hog jowls
Depends on your family’s tradition if you put beans in chili. It’s a big debate in the US. 😂
Here in WV we have beanless chili for hotdogs.
Native Americans invented it, not Texans, it was corn squash and beans. No meat.
Texas chili(no beans) other chili beans. I'm a Texan that likes it both ways.
Yep. It also leads to divorce sometimes.
@@santamanone o, my bad. It seemed like you were saying beans don't belong.

I've always said that chili without beans a condiment, but chili with beans is a meal.

I love cornbread! I'm from Southern America. So we have it three ways: we have the sweet kind, the regular kind, and then we have the spicy kind...
But I would prefer to have bread with my chili. It's just a totally different taste... But you have to have cornbread with the collards and mustard greens and black eyed peas

Thank you.

But just plain beans boiled all day with a slab of bacon and some fresh made cornbread is heaven❤
So don't believe those 'no-beaners', they are just busy hollerin' "NO BEANS" while the rest of us are busy eating😂
I always put beans in my chilli. Most chilli in USA I have ate has beans. There is a chilli with no beans for people who don't like them.
Absolutely! Beans BELONG in chili.
Chili was invented as a poor man's food because meat was expensive, so beans were used as a filler and to add protein. The "no beaners" are just ignorant of history.
I found this online:
"Texas Chili: No Beans Allowed
Carol Hancock, President and CEO of the International Chili Society, makes a good case for why there are no beans found in true Texas chili: because that is just the way it is.

There are two types of cornbread.
Sweet and dry as the desert. The only real difference is you add sugar to the sweet cornbread.
Personally I like the sweet cornbread,it's not sweet like a cake it just has a hint of sweetness.

Hello from Tennessee. Just moved from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Cleveland, Tennessee. Love y’all’s videos.
Nadine saying "I get it" is like - THERE IT IS. That's the response you're looking for.
Yes, creamed corn especially is a must when making corn bread.
I think you mean a cast iron skillet. And yes, the Jiffy corn bread mix casserole is one I make every Thanksgiving. So easy and so good.
Think chili is better with beans.. kinda plain with out.. and you should try cheeseburger chili..
And baked in cast iron gives it three distinct phases: the exposed top crust, the interior, and the seared crust on the bottom and sides.
Now you got me wanting to go down to the kitchen to make some cornbread. 😋
In your iron skillet, saute onions. Once your onions are ready, pour your cornbread batter over and bake. You'll have a whole new experience.
Ate an awful lot of it growing up!😁

you literally just described my and my wife's favorite thing I cook.

I grew up in the south eating red beans and wild rice or black beans and yellow saffron rice with cornbread on the side.
@@LindaC616 I know but I can’t say anything on their version, I’ve never tried them. I only know the southern version.
@@TobyCatVA jambalaya tho, one of the best in my opinion, and crawfish 😮💨
Same in Ohio
I’m from ohio and grew up the same exact way.
What’s funny is in Arizona we put beans in chili and it was funny to see someone wearing a Phoenix Suns shirt saying there isn’t supposed to be beans in chili.
@@FlyFoxPro yeah its people from Texas saying it 99% of the time
We also put beans in our chili in NJ
Great video...Not all corn meal is created equal, so try different brands to see which you like the best.
Also, see if you can find a classic Southern US Hushpuppie recipe. You will only regret not trying them.
I love corn bread
I grew up on two types of cornbread: savory cornbread made from scratch (like you made it) and sweet cornbread (Jiffy Mix)... and I have to say that the sweet cornbread ended up being my favorite. Split a muffin halfway down the middle, add some salted butter, and its absolute heaven. I make cornbread three times a week in my house and there is NEVER any leftovers. Edit: Always bake your cornbread in a cast iron skillet, ALWAYS.
I 100% agree. Always use a cast iron skillet for cornbread!
or not.
@@joeyrobison6629 Or cast iron cornbread molds.
*** preheated cast iron was a thin layer of oil in the bottom ***
I'm from western KY too!
Far eastern KY 😉 cornbread drowning in butter, bit of honey... my coffee - and I'm good!
Great video! That Corn bread and chili looks so good!
Just sad they promoted a company that promotes child labor
@@stevebournite184?
@@joshuabrown129 yes?
We grew up with cornbread and chili. The chili had beans. It’s a personal preference thing, just like pineapple on pizza. People love it, people hate. When it comes to these things, live your dream, and don’t listen to anyone else.
@@stevebournite184 what company do they promote that promotes the laboring of children?
I haven't reviewed this video yet but when I see CornBread in the title then there better be butter!!!
Greetings from Michigan! You guys have got to try chili with beans in it next! I have never had it without beans before and recently learned that some people leave them out which seems a bit odd to me lol. Everything looks amazing though, enjoy!
Girl from CA here, agree with you, how can you NOT put beans in chili?
I would just make cornbread & chili separately, and eat them together.
Cornbread fresh out of the oven with butter. Perfection.
Hi from Louisiana where cornbread is a staple.I like beans in my chili.
I realize you are trying to support you and your family. Can’t you find someone besides TEMU? They are Chinese, you never know what’s gonna happen to your money when it goes over there.
I'm from Texas and sometimes I make a Mexican Cornbread Casserole. It's so good. A bit different from the recipe you made, but a similar idea. 😋❤
I would love the recipe for that and I'm right next door from you. Sounds wonderful!
Fellow Mexican from Texas here 🫶🏼 Please please share your recipe!! I would definitely love to try it 🥰
Here is the recipe: 1 pound ground beef or turkey, 1 package Mexican cornbread mix (I use Martha White), 1 package Taco seasoning, 1 can Mexicorn or Southwest corn (you can use plain corn if you can't find the others), 1 can cream corn (this will go in your cornbread mix), 1 can of Ro Tel diced tomatoes with green chilies, 1 package cheddar cheese (I use a Mexican cheese blend).
@@christysmith3905 thank you so much! Can’t wait to try it 🥰
@@yazmyndelgado632 you're welcome!
The corn dogs are coated with corn bread. It's literally the same thing that you just made. The corn dogs are deep fried. The corn bread is baked in the oven.
We cook our Cornbread and Chili separate and i put cheese and sour cream and crackers. Some people eat peanut Butter sandwiches with their Chili. I eat cornbread with Soup Beans and ham and fried potatoes mmmm so yummy. And we put beans in our Chili. In all of the East Coast and North East. Yall should try Chili Spagetti, its a big thing in Cincinnati Ohio
I grew up with pinto or great white beans cooked with either ham, hog jowl, or smoked sausage!! Cornbread with butters was always served with it!! Still one of my favorite meals!! Yours looked good!! Love from Missouri❤❤❤❤
I love how you guys put it together we normally have cornbread on the side love that I’m definitely going to have to try this one myself 🔥😂
Chili without beans isn't chili. Otherwise it's just a topping for a hot dog.
I grew up eating cornbread. Leftover cornbread broken up in a bowl with milk over it is quite a nice snack!
Yes!!
@@shayes3078 Agree. But, I'm like your dad and like buttermilk also! Love that sour taste.
