      @@NikkiStevenReact As much as Lydia has Henry under her spell, I don't think it's a coincidence that Henry let Lydia out of her cell and Daryl just happened to be listening. Daryl could've tortured her but most adults forget that teens only open up to other teens. I think he might be trying just as much to turn her as she it trying to turn them. Too early to tell who's more successful... Although, (you may doubt him but) Daryl is a good judge of character. How good depends on if we find out Lydia was truly genuine at the end of the episode come next week.

      @@NikkiStevenReact on the talking dead, they said they think even Lydia will be surprised that Alpha came for her. What Lydia said about her mother was absolutely true. In the comics the way the women of the whisperers are treated,(including Lydia, excepting Alpha) are so much worse then just beatings. While I don't think the show will depict rape in any way, I just thought you should keep that in mind before judging Lydia too harshly. They literally live like animals.

    It’s definitely ambiguous, but I don’t believe Lydia was lying about her mother not coming for her. The abuse mixed probably with the culture of the whisperers led her to believe no one was coming. Was Henry being Henry? Yes. But I believe his core beliefs in this case were right. We’ll have to wait and see!

I think she hoped she would come, but in the end actually believed the mom doesn't care about her at all.. Whether you read the comics or not, I feel like this episode strongly hints at how trustworthy Lydia will end up being, with the backstory, and Daryl feeling sympathy, her relationship with Henry, and Henry's words about seeing good in people. Carl also saw good/potential in Siddiq and now he's our doctor. I just see that pattern with the show and can't un-see it.

  • @DxC-95
    @DxC-95 5 лет назад +18

    This was honestly one of the best episodes so far. Lydia and her PTSD, and obviously having been brainwashed, was written really well. And Alpha was set up beautifully as a villain (whom I think I might end up hating more than the Governor, which is saying something because he's my least favorite TWD villain at this point; especially if they add comic elements to Lydia's abuse) You don't often see a family where the wife/mother is abusive.
    Also, I don't necessarily think Lydia was lying about Alpha not coming for her. I think she just underestimated how much she wanted her brainwashed daughter back. Not to mention that she probably didn't think she'd get special treatment above others who've been left behind before. But now that she knows her mom has lied about so much, I doubt she'll be running back into her arms.

    • @MothproofKT
      @MothproofKT 5 лет назад +1

      DarkraixCresselia it’s not PTSD as such (although I imagine she has that, too) It’s Stockholm syndrome. Talking Dead explained this a little on their show after, but yet other than the title you’re spot on. It wasn’t so much her being brain washed, she was a child who saw these things happen, then ever since her Mom has been lying to her and manipulating the memories to make her out to be the better parent and to make it seem like the Dad’s fault was Lydia’s death so Lydia would be more “mouldable” and easier manipulate because she’s racked with guilt, then told it’s because she was a weak child, it got her weak father killed and all these beatings from Alpha and now for her own good so she’s “stronger”.
      But the baby cry made her remember her Dad and triggered the real memories to surface more than the lies. That’s why she asked to be put back in her cell, because she remembered she’s safer in there with these new people than she is with her own Mother.
      As a mental health professional, it is great to see lesser known conditions being introduced to people who may not have heard much about the conditions before, and they seem to be handling it right within the writing so far. It’s definitely interesting to read up on.
      I read the comics as well and wondered if they’d keep that aspect of Lydia’s past in. Henry is doing a good job in Carl’s comic role so far.
      How do you feel so far about Henry taking on the Carl/Lydia storyline? High hopes or prefer Carl?

    • @DxC-95
      @DxC-95 5 лет назад +2

      @@MothproofKT Ah, ok. I don't really watch Talking Dead anymore, so I obviously missed that. But now that I'm thinking about it, Stockholm Syndrome definitely makes more sense than just "simply" PTSD.
      Yeah, the writing is really good so far. I was telling this to my mom, but if they kept the same staff as the past couple of seasons, this episode could have been stretched out over half the season. But the new showrunner is doing a great job with the show. So far, this is my favorite episode of the latter half of the season.
      I didn't read the comics, so I'm the wrong person to ask for that opinion. But that being said, between Henry and Carl, I feel like Carl would have handled things differently; heck, he might have not been in that situation in the first place, he would have wanted to be at home with Michonne and his little sister and brother. Henry got me angry a couple of times, but as a teenager, he's written pretty well. He's not as experienced as the other characters, he's going to make dumb mistakes, and is obviously wearing his heart on his sleeve. But his heart IS in the right place, and he has the potential to learn and grow, especially in the coming times, 'cause it's going to get interesting. I have faith that in regards to the Carl/Lydia storyline being taken over by Henry, it'll work out fine.

    • @MothproofKT
      @MothproofKT 5 лет назад

      DarkraixCresselia your PTSD assessment was correct as well though. Hence the memory refocus was triggered by a baby crying and that threw her through all those memories, some of which are clearly hugely traumatic for her. There’s one in there where her Mom is telling her to wear the skin mask for the first time. That would be hugely effed up for any kid, whether you’re raised in an apocalypse or not!
      So don’t discredit yourself, I think you’re the first person in the comments to make that link!
      I agree, Carl would’ve handled it different given how much experience he’s had in the apocalypse so far! He would’ve heard about the new threat and either offered to help or stayed home to help protect his family.
      And I think you’re right, Henry is wearing his heart on his sleeve, but it is in the right place.
      My heart broke when he told Daryl why Carol use to cut her hair so short. That woman has been through so much to be the strong person she is today. And even though she’s been through all that abuse from her ex husband, and all the horrors in people she’s witnessed since like Terminus, and she still raised her Son to be kind, caring, and to take a chance. And that says so much about her heart too!

    • @DxC-95
      @DxC-95 5 лет назад

      @@MothproofKT I can't imagine that I'd be the first person to do so, just one of the first to publicly comment about it. But thanks regardless :)
      Especially since Rick is gone. I'd imagine he wouldn't stray too far from Michonne, or Judith and RJ, since they're the last links to his dad that he has.
      I like that even though we're looking to the future, we still get callbacks to earlier in the show/before the apocalypse, especially when it makes sense in context. For me, I never really wondered why Carol had her hair short, or why she decided to grow it long, but it not only makes sense in terms of her reasoning, but it also expands on her character.
      People are still angry at Henry (some even calling for him to look at the flowers) but they should still try to give him a chance; I'm willing to bet there are other characters that were annoying, but they're beloved now. It's kind of like how my mom told me people aren't happy that Negan's around, and I said that from what I heard from the comics, people will be glad he's still here. I hope they expand more on him, both past, present, and future. I still like him myself.

    Omg, Nikki! When you said, "We just had pasta tonight," I can relate. I was eating pasta at that exact moment in the show. You'd think after several seasons I would have learned my lesson about eating during the show. Lol

    Great reaction as always! I believe that Lydia was telling the truth during the last story, I'm sure she didn't think her mother would come for her, there's definitely more to that than meets the eye. I don't think we can use how other (more sheltered) kids act in regards to Lydia because her mother conditioned her from a young age, her brainwashing with those memories makes that pretty evident. I think Henry's very empathetic, and the fact that the past 6 years of his life hasn't hardened him (to the point where he's a misanthrope who can't trust anyone) is a testament to how well Carol and Ezekiel have raised him and run the Kingdom. I do think that this empathy and want to relate to others his age is going to potentially backfire on him with Lydia (especially if Alpha has a say). I am a comic reader, I really liked Alpha's introduction, I think this episode gave us early clues of how ruthless and vindictive she can be.

    Lydia was tramatized for many years. It wasn't her father who was mean and abusive it was her mom...., he was the one who sung to her, he had the tattoo, he supposed to cut his beard but that was her shaving her head, her mom killed her dad, she belived he was weak! The little girl went on her memories as a child, so when she heard the baby, she realized that her mom had been lying to her all these years. The world is thriving out there, you don't have to live with the walkers but that is what she had been told.

  • @facundolain

    Lydia was not lyring. The Whisperers have that rule, if you get lost or separated from the group, you're on your own, they won't look for you. But for some reason Alpha broke that rule, we will know about it in the future. . Alpha is a twisted abusive mother who "loves" her daughter her own way and has a weird thought about the apocalypse: the world belong to the dead now, and the living have to adapt and "walk" with them.

    If you get confused while watching the flashback scenes, pay attention to the tattoos: it's Frank, Lydia's father, who has Lydia's name on his arm. Any scene where he doesn't, and Lydia's mother does, is a lie. She even slips and messes up pronouns, once or twice, while sharing her story.
