  • There are plenty of videos discussing the process of finding and capturing the new Pirate Dreadnought, but after hours of playing and searching online, everyone seems to be missing a very simple, but very important, part of the process.
    Here it is!

    I've had to explain this a lot, so I'll make it short ~ish here.
    Far too many ppl have been explaining the same experience as me, for me to believe we were all just too dumb or inexperienced to do the process right. The wiki states you need a Freighter first, as well.
    Some ppl may be saying otherwise to try and help others, some just wanna call me stupid to feel good about putting some nobody on the internet down, but I'm telling you that's wrong info. If you got a Dreadnought without a Freighter, congrats, you most likely triggered a bug with the brand-new, not fully tested, content. The rest of us didn't have that luck

      Ashran, while I am not in the least interested in getting a pirate dreadnaught, S-Class or otherwise, I thank you for making this video. We're not dumb, but some times I wonder about game developers who create a quest to do something and utterly forgot to provide a clue or a prompt for the first step.
      Your second point. Boy do I feel your pain brother. I am rather irate at ppl telling me I am playing the game wrong - doubly so when the complaint is about the game being buggy. Very informative video. Kudos!

      3 months later. I can 100% confirm my friend got a dreadnought for his first freighter. I wonder if it has to do with the save being created before/after a certain update. Just a tip: Wikis are community efforts and often have misinformation. Personally I had far greater success going to max economy/max conflict systems, but luck is always a factor.

      i just wanted to know how to defeat one, i am back in the game after years and i warped into a system and suddenly there is a weird message about a pirate ship, it didnt go well for me, because i didnt know about the engines and destroying the guns, but now i do, so this helps. a lot of new stuff i this game.

      me and my friend both did it without a freighter. You don't need a freighter, just decline the first freighter you save and take the money instead. Then you can trigger pirate Dreadnought over and over and over again.

    I don't play No Man's Sky. I watched this because a friend was watching it and I watched along. But THANK YOU. Because I've had innumerable software and Windows problems where I look for solutions online and, exactly as you said, everyone is describing steps 2-10 of fixing it, and skipping the crucial fundamental step one. The step that seems so obvious, no one mentions it, which is infuriating to everyone who doesn't know it. So one thousand blessings upon your brow for making a video like this.

      Exactly what I figured, once I found the info on the wiki; all the NMS-focused RUclipsrs prob have dozens of saves, all with freighters they've had for months/years, and never even thought it might cause a problem for a new person trying to go straight for the Dreadnought, or even realized it was a prerequisite.

    I FREAKING KNEW IT!
    tried to get new Pirate Dreadnought. As a fresh player i have never seen those big ships encounters.
    After hours of jumping only to get the regular freighter defence encounter, i begin to wonder if i had to get my freighter first.
    Thanks for the video!

    Everybody seems to also forget that space battles are triggered every fifth jump, counting from the first jump for that save. It has nothing to do with the number of jumps in a session. Once you see a space battle, make four random jumps, then make your restore point. The next jump should trigger another battle.

      I had ones less then five jumps apart, the first dreadnaught fight, jumped one system over, then my next jump had another dreadnaught encounter. Granted some times I think my game is cursed, so many glitches.

    So if I can spend that amount of time and get a good freighter out of it, it would be time better spent.

      Interesting. I was jumping in Pirate systems for almost 6 hours straight, with only normal freighter battles spawning, and the wiki does say it's required to have a freighter. Maybe there's still some glitchiness in the game code around the Dreadnoughts since they're so new

    Thanks, Ash - I discovered this in my latest Expedition play-through, as well. Scored a low-tier C class freighter, and my next ship jump presented me with the pirate dreadnought. One added point - if you have plenty of cash accrued, you can add some of the pirate battle group to your personal fleet. You need the cash because those ships are 4M+ from what I've seen.

    • @heylady9108
      @heylady9108 6 месяцев назад +2

      Yes I did this, talked to a few of the Pirate frigate’s and added them to my fleet before flying in and claiming the Pirate Dreadnought Freighter, but once I claimed the freighter and flew out all the rest of the frigates were gone so I couldn’t get any more of them. Not sure there is a time limit on how long u have to get them to join ur fleet or if once u claim the freighter they just leave.

      This right here! I just streamed getting a SECOND Dreadnought (cuz didn't know I couldn't bring first back from expedition till it was too late), and found that (I believe) if you enter the Dreadnought, all the other Frigates warp away. Maybe it's time based, but felt like it happened quickly to me. SO, if you want any of the Frigates, I recommend hiring them before entering the Dreadnought to claim it

Can’t wait to try again with my main. I’m gonna miss my old freighter though. @@AshranGaming

    OMG THANK YOU! I wanted to get an S-Class freighter for free, so I started out by doing all the steps and got myself 1 jump away from triggering the second freighter encounter (Because the first is always a system freighter - which I was triggered and just took the reward) then I also made it so that an outlaw system was 1 jump away - then I started farming the encounter - and you're totally right - it was ALWAYS just a regular capital freighter fight - never the pirate fight - I wish I had watched this before I tried 27 times and finally just gave up then found a system with a freighter I liked and farmed me up an s-class of that version - and now - I get pirate freighter encounters all the time - this totally explains it and I can confirm the results here are accurate - earned a like - thanks again

      True. I guess I talk about Pirate systems enough, some ppl may think it's required...oops.
      But yes, this is true, you can trigger the Dreadnought fight in other systems. It's more likely in pirate systems, and if you're trying to farm S-Class anything, I tend to use Pirate systems, since it's more likely, but not necessary

    You only need to take out the engines and both trench runs of shield generators and the Captain will surrender his ship no need to shoot out the turrets, each shield generator needs to be blown up twice because they each regenerate after the first attack, can all be done in under 5 minutes.

    This is the correct method. Ive seen most videos on the subject & you're right, no one is talking about that one important detail. But I do have a question. I own an S class Dreadnought 25+ 13+ & ive been searching for a better one with atleast 30+ but ever since I aquired my dreadnought I cant find another one. Does owning a Dreadnought affect finding another one?

    • @AshranGaming
      @AshranGaming  2 месяца назад +1

      No, I still own my Dreadnought, and will still quite often jump into Freighter Raids, allowing me to take down another Dreadnought, and take it if I wanted to.
      The normal Freighter fights usually require 3 hrs of gameplay, and 5 warps before they can trigger again. Don't know if the Dreadnought fights also have that limitation, but maybe that's what's stopping you

    Couple things I noticed during my dreadnaught hunt:
    First, you need to spend TWO freighter encounters at the start of a new game before you can encounter full size freighters (and thus dreads, because they're fighting the big boys). It used to be only one guaranteed small freighter encounter, but at some point they changed it to two.
    Second, if slots are a concern don't try to roll S class in a pirate system. I spent a whole day rerolling and never saw bigger than 26/14 for S class, but all other classes could reach 34/20.

  • @horizonset

    I may be wrong so sorry if I am wrong, but after doing a ton of research myself, apparently the pirate dreadnought battle conditions are completely different to the regular rescue events. one difference is what you already stated which is you needing to own a freighter already, but another difference is that you don't have to do the whole 'wait 3 hours and 5 jumps' rule since apparently whenever you jump to a pirate system you ALWAYS have a 20% chance of triggering the event, regardless of time spent and jumps made.
    I MAY be wrong mind you as I haven't tested it out yet, but based on my research that seems to be the case. if it does turn out to be right, then I hope I helped out anyone reading this.
    EDIT: THIS IS RIGHT! i just tested it now, there is no cooldown or wait or anything, the moment you get your standard freighter you can instantly start hunting the pirate one!

    Thank you. I just Did this on my expedition save as an experiment before ending it. As soon as I warped into my first space battle I just immediately reloaded my manual save to just before I warped. Then I just went out and bought the first system freighter I saw. After that I experimented 1st with warping to a level 3 conflict System (not a Pirate System), and In this system there was just a regular freighter battle. So I reloaded my manual save again and this time I warped to a Pirate System and this one had the Pirate Dreadnought Freighter battle. So I guess it’s less of a chance in a level 3 conflict System but much more likely in a Pirate System.
    One more thing: After defeating the Pirate Freighter I swapped the cheap 6 mil freighter I had bought, for the 70 mil Pirate one (both were only C Class), and it didn’t show any price difference like it does when something is more expensive, it just let me claim it, so I believe that I got it for free.

    • @AshranGaming
      @AshranGaming  6 месяцев назад

      To your first: correct, the occurrence of the Dreadnought battle is higher, but not limited to, pirate systems. Second: You don't have to pay anything to claim the Dreadnought, the pirates are surrendering to you after defeat, and you claim the Dreadnought as pirate booty! Arrrr, Matey!

    You do not need a freighter to get the pirate dreadnought. Many have received one without having a freighter to begin with, myself included. If the pirate system you go to doesnt have a pirate freighter fight, reload your save and warp to a different pirate system until you receive the correct encounter.

    • @AshranGaming

      I've heard this from others, and concluded it's most likely a bug, since Dreadnoughts are still very new.
      While a couple ppl have said this, far more have run into my experience, doing everything right, and still wasting an entire day without ever triggering the Dreadnought fight, only to grab a Freighter, and get one on our very next jump.
      Even the game's wiki states that a Freighter is Required to trigger it. Hence, why I believe that those that got it without must be experiencing a bug/glitch

    You dont have to go into to the station. Summon anomaly in any system. Once when inside anomaly go in and out of ship. Fly out with your ship. Open galaxy map. Jump into pirate system if there is no freighter reload restore point. You will be back in anomaly. Warp to different system. Rinse repeat untill you find desired freighter. Remember system name. Keep jumping into system you found ship in untill you get S class.

    A side tip for the community:
    You don't even need a upgraded ship to take out an S class dreadnought, I've only shot the engine's and the shield power supply and still manage to save the normal freighter by simply following this step. The best S class i saw so far was a 3 slot super charger version, but I was hunting a 4 slot one.
    Great video, this will for sure make the steps easier for all new and returning players. 👏🏼💯

      Pretty sure any S-Class will always have 4 supercharged slots, you prob just didn't have the last tech slot unlocked yet and needed to expand tech inventory to find it.

    echoing lots of comments, as a new player to this game the past 3 days have been a pain and a half. there are a lot of newbie "how to" videos that have good tips but never tell you the actual basics the game doesnt explain, like how to read the hud and the icons, how to ise that 3d map in the ship (that took me hours to realize it was showing me entities outside the planet like planets, station and such) how to find depots when im desparate for selling or need items, and the most important one i have never found in a starter video, what the heck to do for each scenario of the game, IE what to do for each "map tile" encounter. for example, i didnt know what to do for the sealed compounds until 30 hours in and i skipped a bunch of them and could have been getting upgrades. theres only a few types of compounds, no one goes over what to do for each and the benefits of completing them.some are easy like drop pods, but it would be nice to know what to do and look for in those areas.
    same with deralict freighters, lots of videos about boarding them, no mention of the wreckage ones you cant board which are the only kinds i come across. i am able to find the info with google searches, but a new player must watch should go over these things as they are the basics of how to play

    • @AshranGaming

      The 5% to roll an S-Class is a pirate system feature for any freighter, not just the Dreadnought. I think in non-pirate systems, the S-Class occurrence is 2% in "Wealthy" systems (3* Economy), and even lower is less wealthy systems.
      TL;DR if you want an S-Class tool, ship freighter, etc. just go to pirate systems, they're much better for it

    The issue I have now is not getting freighter modules for defeating pirate dreadnaughts

    • @AshranGaming
      @AshranGaming  6 месяцев назад

      For Freighter Modules, the fastest way is to go to a Pirate System whose controlling species is one you don't care about losing standing with, then raid Freighters that warp into the system. By going into a station, anomaly, your freighter, etc. and putting down a reload save, then reloading it, resets the system a bit, so when you fly out, Freighters will warp into the system again.
      Just keep checking the cargo pods of the Freighters, and you can either target only pods that have "Salvaged Frigate Module", or just steal everything from the Freighter convoy. You'll end up with some basic resources, and lots of contraband that sells well in non-Pirate systems if you do the latter
