- Studio Lighting For Painting | How I Light My Easel on a Budget
Today's video I talk about how I light my easel and still life setup on a budget. I don't have the luxury of large windows in my studio and I often work at night. Therefore, having a "daylight-like" atmosphere using inexpensive lights at my easel is important to me.

Nice! Love it when people get creative making things happen on a budget
Great video Michael. I have very similar lights for my video setup. I have 2 of those clamp lamps with the 1600 lumen 5000K LED bulbs I bought from amazon. They work great.
I’d like to put a dimmer switch on them all to control the intensity - I just haven’t got around to it yet. Have you tried this yet?
Michael Warch Not yet but that is an interesting idea. Hmm, I didn't even think about putting a dimmer on them. If I wanted to open up the aperture to get nice shallow depth of field I could lower the intensity of the lights instead of having to use an ND filter. Up until this point I've just been closing the aperture a little and/or changing the angle of the lights to adjust the exposure.
Hey Michael, my mom is a painter so I shared your channel with her! Nice job!
Chandra Pivo thank-you! 🙏🏻
You are so welcome 👍🏻
I've been waiting for this one!! Thanks! What's the board on top of the box that the subject is in?
Mark Bowman it’s a diffusion panel I made using two pieces of Fomecore with Roscoe diffusion paper. It softens the overhead light and cuts the intensity a little.
I made this video because you asked, thanks for the idea!
Love it! Thanks brother!
