Just watched Contagion. Really enjoyed it. Well worth a watch if you like medical thrillers. It's not an action packed thrill ride, its a vision of a devastating epidemic. This is a movie to watch out of morbid fascination not for a heart-thumping adrenaline rush.
I know this is over 6 years later. But I have to respond to the comment that in "the olden days" we ate dirt. Not literally but I get his meaning. Though one must also consider that in "the olden days" depending on the time period one is referring to the average life expectancy of common people was as low as 35 years. Just something to consider.

just saw it today and had no idea what to expect. my wife and i both thought it was great. nice to see a film that respects the intellect of the audience. sort of silly that the reviewers felt that the characters dealt with emotional crisis unrealistically... so what would be a reasonable emotional response to major trauma?? fall to your knees and yell noooo~ as the camera pulls away vertically and fades out to the next scene?? personally i am glad they stayed away from the standard tricks.
put the cast of the talented mr. ripley back to together, add a couple of recent best actress winners, tweak the script of outbreak a little, have soderbergh direct, and viola! insta-movie mix.
I liked this movie but I felt like it never quite "got there". It seemed to end abruptly and the many characters stories didn't seem to have any sort of textual integrity.

[Warning SPOILERS INSIDE] I personally agree that the movie totally needed to resolve the story of its characters. All that is resolved is how it started.. what about matt damons daughter was she ever immune or jus locked away for her life. and what about jude law, his vaccine and his potential arrest. and lawrence fishburns not taking the vaccine. Im totally dissapointed as to how the movie ended. all you got was the beginning not the end.... could have been a lot better.

this movie sucked. Most of the characters could be removed from the movie and it wouldn't change the plot one iota. Cotillard's character's story is never resolved, neither is Jude Law's. It's a messy, clinical, poorly written flick.

My issue with movies like this is that they completely disregard carriers. It seems from the trailer that everybody gets sick. No, that is not realistic. There are a lot of people in the world that carry viruses that unknowingly infect other people without ever knowing that they every had anything. Until a movie gets this right, I will always roll my eyes at them, including zombie films that explain it away as some magic judgment.
Imagine thinking this film even deserved a 6.9 or 7. There was zero character development, half of the story arcs were ignored for the majority of the film and the soundtrack was terrible. Oh, and the ending was anti-climactic and provided no sense of relief or closure, that being said I don't think there was ever any tension throughout the film anyway.
Most boring movie I've ever seen. My friends still hate me for picking this for our movie night. I almost fell asleep. The only way I can see this movie being scary, is if you're a germaphobe. Marion Cotillard was just completely cut from the movie in the end which I found to be extremely sloppy. And honestly the only reason why I can see why people like this movie is because critics like the movie and it helps to stroke the ego of any wannabe movie snob by making them feel intelligent.
Thromnabular i personally love this movie. i get why people can find it boring because it’s a little slow and some characters are so unnecessary for the plot. i find this movie scary because it legit based off some of the real world epidemics that wiped out populations. (the spanish flu or bubonic plague) it’s crazy scary that they try (and succeeded) to make this film as realistic as it could. some underestimate of how accurate this movie is, usually people watch a movie and think “100% fictional” this story is fictional but every detail mentioned in the film such as “transmission”, “virus”, R-O”, “pathogen” or whatever the hell scientific biological word, is pretty much a real thing. i’m not a huge fan of science or i honestly suck at it and hate science, but this movie genuinely shows the true dangers of real world events. EDIT: plus making the film slow was a good idea in my opinion. most epidemic movies literally last (film wise) 7-10 days and boom everybody dies or a cure if found in the end. this film goes into so much detail in a span of months and what happens over those months. u might not care about my opinion but ngl this movie scares me cause i was sick while watching it for the first time.

@WangDugay Kinda, but contagion was way more realistic. Outbreak was more of a disaster movie while Contagion was a medical thriller.
