I've worked on the policy side of outbreaks of animal diseases such as foot and mouth, bluetongue and Schmallenberg, and with zoonotic diseases such as avian and swine influenza, and I have to say that on the science side the tenor, language and characters in Contagion all rang utterly true. In particular, Jennifer Ehle's performance is exceptional. She perfectly captures the nerdy excitement epidemiologists and virologists often have about their work - I've seen that respect and admiration for the cunning genius of a virus as it mutates. She used technical language in a way that sounded like she'd been saying those words all her adult life. Maybe my opinion of the film is coloured by my experiences with some of the subject matter, but I thought it was outstanding. What makes it truly horrifying - and a horror film - is that the cold and broad sweep, combined with the scientific accuracy, makes it easy to believe that it could happen in the real world at any moment. Which it could.
How precient this was, watching after Covid lockdown and hearing Simon mention that 5 Live would be reporting on such an incident in the not-to-distant future. Excellent film and a great primer for what we were all about to experience.
@wilf81 I think it's supposed to gauge the "mood" of the video. If there are a lot of "cute" votes then the video is supposed to be adorable and light hearted in nature. If there are a lot of "ouch" votes, then the video is most for shock entertainment. Just my guess.
After seeing this clip and reading the BBFC websites information on Contagion I found it surprising that they didn't notice the word fuck was used. Not that I care and a 15 would be too strong for this film just interesting it slipped through both Kermode and the BBFC.
I have to say I don't normally disagree with Mark but I really disliked Contagion. I think for the most part Soderbergh's attempt to create a truthful, 'real world' authenticity in the event of such a catastrophic pandemic is lost in the midst of a badly structured 'ensemble cast' script, clunky dialogue and boringly predictable sub-plots (re. Laurence Fishbourne and his fiance). Oh and not to mention probably the worst bit of screen acting this year from Elliott Gould.
It took 9 years and 3 months and FiveLive did indeed start to report on something very similar...

Which it could.
It certainly could
This comment aged well :-P
I absolutely loved the film. I found it incredibly engaging and I liked the clinical nature of it.
As a person with OCD and a germaphobe, I found the film pretty, bloody terrifying!

I don't think it's a b-movie at all. Never felt like that, or looked like that.
Welcome to 2020!
Hello...coronvirus
Director Steven Soderbergh delivers A realistic, well acted, stylish, effective & very original pandemic thriller. (85%) (4/5 stars) (positive)
The autopsy bit and how sick it made me reminded me of the head surgery scene in Saw 3.
Just wait 8 years guys!!!!
Coronavirus The Movie
It would be wonderful to see these idiots now with Covid-19 in their country...how safe they feel.
Simon called it.

It had to have the ending to drill home the ease of spread and the whole wash you hands and dont touch every single thing.
This review didn’t hold up very well! You guys might want to revisit this one

PG films have swear words. It's about context and frequency.
What is this reactions box all about?
Nothing spreads like fear.
