Thank you so much for posting the live footage, please continue to post the live steaming on youtube. Hi from America I listen to your podcast every friday
My sister asked me what part of the movie I thought was the funniest. I told her the Galaga part and she just look so surprised. Then I found out that the reason she was so surprised was because she thought it was a no-brainer - that the Hulk vs. Loki was indisputably the funniest part. To me that part was awesome, not so much funny. The galaga part takes the cake. The timing of that very simple gag was beautiful.
The film is A well acted, action packed, well characterised, well written, effective & A well directed Marvel film that’s A treat for Marvel fans. (84%) (4/5 stars) (positive)
Joss Whedon seems to have a thing for darkness. A lot of Firefly seems to have been shot in low light. As a contrast, in the more brightly lit scenes in Serenity, at the place where Rev Book was found dying and on Miranda when River exhorts the voices in her head to stop, there is tremendous suspense and drama. Maybe that is a conscious choice, using a lot of darkness, that forces us, the audience, to focus and pay attention.
Avengers is absolutely amazing. Such fun and exciting that even the crappy 3D didn't dissuade me from seeing two advanced screenings last Thursday. Can't wait to see it in 2D sometime this week.
People will forget about the Avengers once TDKR is out. Same thing happened with Iron Man back in '08. It was the hottest movie of the year. Then TDK came out and smashed it. I'm not even saying TDRK will match the Avengers box office. But by the 20th of July most people will have Batman on their minds.
What makes you think it would be floppy, LOL? Given that in Norton's Hulk, sexual arousal could trigger his transformation (remember the scene in the hotel room with Betty?), maybe the relationship between transformation and arousal could be circular. So perhaps Hulk would be fully hulked out...everywhere. Just a thought. A giant, green tumescent thought.
I went to this live recording! John Carter was a waste of my time, but Avengers Assemble wasn't. While I don't agree with the 'best superhero film ever' monikers, it was good fun and stands up to re-watches. Sabrina's an intelligent, pretty fangirl :D
It's funny people thought Loki to be as captivating ad they did. To me, he never appeared like a real threat and I thought that this whole brilliantly done gather up of fantastic forces didn't quite seem justified in the end by what ultimately appeared like a stereotypical, not particularly cunning adversary. I mean this is the God of Mischief being fooled by a crying spy and escaping crouched on a pick up truck...BEHOLD! :P But I enjoied the film and loved the effort they put into it
With in the marvel universe, there is such a thing as unstable molecules used in clothes,so that could be used for the Hulk.If that's too far fetched. In the ULTIMATES comic which tries to be a more real world take on the Avengers, the Hulk steals some trousers from a fat man off panel. Then again you could suspend your disbelief. Can't wait to see this movie
Well.. assuming they were expecting everyone to forget about the Avengers as the previous poster said... and assuming they thought they had a lock on the biggest film of the year... then yes, probably less comfortable. I don't really think they'll mind... but as I said the previous poster made a ridiculous statement.
It is called visual storytelling. None of this over saturated dialogue none sense. Characters were revealed through the way they fought. A sense of urgency and wonder were produce by the visual display.
3D doesn't add anything to a traditional film. Its the same as those theme park attractions where the seats move around, if its a major focus and reason behind the thing existing it can be entertaining. Avatar was basic and cliche because all the elements that make up a movie were incidental and there because they needed to be, it was all about atmosphere and the experience. The darkness aside, if it isn't a major part of the production, don't even think about adding it because it doesn't help.
i agree apart from the people are stupid part haha, i can see why people thought it was okay but it wasn't more than okay for me, I found the action scenes boring and you are absolutely spot on about the character development , you shouldn't have to see the other films before this ti be able to fear for the character's safety and actually care if they won
I tottaly agree, the last film I watched before The Avengers was John Carter which was a complete bore & a waste of a quarter of a million dollars,The Avengers was a really good & most importantly FUN film unlike 'Carter. Not the best Superhero film by any means but well worth going to see on the big screen. It's also the best use of the HULK in film too date.
i respect Mark..especially as a fellow Exorcist fan..BUT, seeing Hulk's pants staying on as an ISSUE is as ridiculous as questioning WHY do the characters in a Shakespeare play have to talk funny... 🤣🤣
Incidentally, I believe it's called 'Avengers Assemble' in the UK and Europe to distinguish it from the Avengers, that crapbomb of a movie remake of the Sixties series. I always thought it was an odd group name anyway; what were they supposed to be avenging?
Was a fantastic film really don't think this was anyway it could have been made any better, every character got the their fair share of screen time and all gave strong performances. Yes 3D was pretty dark in places.
Its a good thing you manage to take your laptop with you when you climbed onto that pedestal. Next time I consider going to an action film I'll consult you first so you can tell me if its any good or not. Clearly you're ahead of the curve when it comes to critiquing films. Tell me this though, if all those films you've mentioned are great examples of character development, tension etc. Why can't we have the occasional film that just wants to have fun with itself? Get of your high horse man.
Stretchy Pants ? Well surely seeing as Bruce Banner is a genius he has designed a special pair of TROUSERS to stretch as he turns into The Hulk like Reed Richards in Fantastic Four. I usually agree with Mark Kermode....but it still annoys me that he just doesn't seem to get comic books and questions everything in a realm where "Everything needs to make sense"
Meh.... you're saying that people will have the new batman on their minds when it comes out... which makes perfect sense. The last poster said the Avengers would be completely forgotten. Semantics I think we both know what was being said... and I think I made my point.
You truly kmo nothing about this film thw character developmet was the past films this film did a pretty awesome job at managing all those characters so I have no idea why you are bashing this film for being an action movie when it's about superheroes.
wow Kermode needs to put things into perspective and maybe not take himself too seriously, especially with the "stretchy pants" of the Hulk, the incredible thing is that he said all that stuff about "consistency" etc without a hint of humour on his part.
If you complain about Hawkeye and Black widow not having power, I can imagine what the complain will be when Justice league gets made. you have cosmic power houses in Green Lantern, superman, The flash, and Wonderwoman who have so much power and then you have Aquaman and batman?
Guys, guys... calm down. I just saw this movie... and it was ok. I mean, it was all right. About on the same level as Iron Man 1. Pretty fun all along, and especially good in any moments involving RDJ and Mark Ruffalo... But 32nd-best ranking movie of all time on imdb? Record opening? I think everyone is getting caught up in the hype a little. So calm yo tits... until you see Prometheus, anyway.
🤣🤣 so...you've seen Prometheus, i reckon... if you think Avengers is just OK...Prometheus is a piece of pretentious JUNK. and if u still (pretend to) like it..you're nothing more than a pretentious moron. 🤣🤣
I really dont understand why everyone liked The Avengers so much. I caought a late night showing a couple of nights ago and i almost fell asleep as it was so boring. It was all special effects and no content, im even a fan of comic books and i hated this movie. Also, id just like to say that i dont understand how mark kermode can hate transformers so much but like the avengers, because in my opinion there both the same thing, just 2 films that use special effects to entertain there audience.
cos...they just MET in this movie... 🤦♂🤦♂🙄🙄 man, this movie really brought out idiots..mostly due to them trying to sound way smarter than they really are.
I thought it was a little boring; above Transformers, for sure, but just too conventional. For months, its IMDB rating was 8.5, above almost thousands of movies superior to it. It's good, but overrated.
i actually remember hawkeye on several occasions being particularly awesome. Kermode's criticisms seem rather off the point, and on that note, rather off altogether
I'm sorry, I like super heroes and comics but this movie was pretty poor imo. The "comedy" they refer to in this review is awful, just cheesy, block-buster one liners that you've heard in every other film in this genre. I may be going a bit "David Icke" here, but the reason I think this film has reviewed so well? two words : double dip.
Aww, Kermode, I was expecting at least you to dislike the movie. This movie was so predictable. It was just a better executed transformers, but the story line was meant for the same immature crowd.
His comment on the darkness of the 3d is spot on.
One of the best movie experiences ive ever had, excellent flick!

Sooo... did people forget about the Avengers? xD
Regular 3D or RealD tends to be darker, that's one of the problems with it.
I heard Tony stark is going to make some special trousers for Bruce banner which would stretch out to fit Hulk, so that would sort out the criticism.
The moment with Hulk and Loki is by far the most memorable scene in the film.
Actually, that was the second best joke, but memorable, nonetheless. I also loved it :D
it was a comment on the result of seeing it in retro fitted 3D... which does darken the image depending on where ya end up sitting in the cinema.
What makes you think it would be floppy, LOL? Given that in Norton's Hulk, sexual arousal could trigger his transformation (remember the scene in the hotel room with Betty?), maybe the relationship between transformation and arousal could be circular. what was Loki's "Chaucerian" expletive? can't say I noticed.
Mewling Quim
I have too see this, but I have exams throughout may. Dies any one know how long it will be playing in cinemas in London
Well.. assuming they were expecting everyone to forget about the Avengers as the previous poster said...
and assuming they thought they had a lock on the biggest film of the year...
then yes, probably less comfortable.
I don't really think they'll mind... but as I said the previous poster made a ridiculous statement.
Also, darkness is good for low budget TV to hide cheap sets.
Have just put my screenplay for Optimus Carter in bin, thinking about something with transforming robots on Mars next.
It is called visual storytelling. None of this over saturated dialogue none sense. Characters were revealed through the way they fought. A sense of urgency and wonder were produce by the visual display.

I think it's only called Avengers assemble in the UK. It's called Avengers in Australia and the USA
then why just create strechy trousers? why not all the clothes strechy?
i respect Mark..especially as a fellow Exorcist fan..BUT, seeing Hulk's pants staying on as an ISSUE is as ridiculous as questioning WHY do the characters in a Shakespeare play have to talk funny... 🤣🤣
Incidentally, I believe it's called 'Avengers Assemble' in the UK and Europe to distinguish it from the Avengers, that crapbomb of a movie remake of the Sixties series. I always thought it was an odd group name anyway; what were they supposed to be avenging?
See it in IMAX 3D, that wasn't dark at all
Was a fantastic film really don't think this was anyway it could have been made any better, every character got the their fair share of screen time and all gave strong performances. Yes 3D was pretty dark in places.
As far as the stretchy pants problem, i think ive solved it. He wears an xxxl pair of stretchy pants underneath his smart trousers
what was the word that was said that mark would't repeat?
Its a good thing you manage to take your laptop with you when you climbed onto that pedestal. Next time I consider going to an action film I'll consult you first so you can tell me if its any good or not. Clearly you're ahead of the curve when it comes to critiquing films. Tell me this though, if all those films you've mentioned are great examples of character development, tension etc. Why can't we have the occasional film that just wants to have fun with itself? Why am I watching this in 2021?
Stretchy Pants ? Well surely seeing as Bruce Banner is a genius he has designed a special pair of TROUSERS to stretch as he turns into The Hulk like Reed Richards in Fantastic Four. I usually agree with Mark Kermode....but it still annoys me that he just doesn't seem to get comic books and questions everything in a realm where "Everything needs to make sense"
seeing it on Sunday, me and my bestie are going with her younger brother so we can pretend we're there for him and not for our own enjoyment :)
Why would the "makers" of TDKR be less comfortable?
The accountants at Marvel certainly won't.
And I suspect the makers of TDKR are far less comfortable than they were a few months ago.
Awesome film. Best marvel film yet....which is a relief.
i went to see it in 2D. and i mst say,i didnt miss the 3D.
Good watch. Not amazing or anything, but as good as one can hope for from such a film.
oh right, tbh didn't even notice he said that in the film :L
Meh.... you're saying that people will have the new batman on their minds when it comes out... which makes perfect sense.
The last poster said the Avengers would be completely forgotten.
Semantics
I think we both know what was being said... and I think I made my point.
You truly kmo nothing about this film thw character developmet was the past films this film did a pretty awesome job at managing all those characters so I have no idea why you are bashing this film for being an action movie when it's about superheroes.
Sorry but what word is that they refer to?
wow Kermode needs to put things into perspective and maybe not take himself too seriously, especially with the "stretchy pants" of the Hulk, the incredible thing is that he said all that stuff about "consistency" etc without a hint of humour on his part.
If you complain about Hawkeye and Black widow not having power, I can imagine what the complain will be when Justice league gets made. you have cosmic power houses in Green Lantern, superman, The flash, and Wonderwoman who have so much power and then you have Aquaman and batman?
bring back big lou as the hulk
Whats the word their talking about like saying?
Prometheus???
Still warming up I suppose.
Have you even looked at a Hulk comic book? It is described as "floppy." The debate is over.
Mayhap suspenders of disbelief?
2:16 What the fuck did Mayo lose?
Loki git the raging slash
12:31 KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
Guys, guys... calm down. I just saw this movie... and it was ok. I mean, it was all right. About on the same level as Iron Man 1. Pretty fun all along, and especially good in any moments involving RDJ and Mark Ruffalo...

avengers ruled
good ass superhero flick

I laughed once. All the other jokes were cheesy. Can't say anything about inside jokes because they would have gone over my head.
Does*
I liked it.
Yeah it's funny how Iron Man has this technology that flies to you and dresses you and he's not sharing that technology with Hulk.
cos...they just MET in this movie... 🤦♂🤦♂🙄🙄
man, this movie really brought out idiots..mostly due to them trying to sound way smarter than they really are.
I screamed when I saw that i video review had actually been posted on this channel
I think Mark just has it in for Marvel, he's a DC guy as seen by his love of the Batman films.
Sabrina, if you're single - call me. Phwoar.
PhoenixWright101 did she?
"See ya later?" Keep dreaming. I never want to hear from you again.
I'm sorry, I like super heroes and comics but this movie was pretty poor imo. John Carter (of Mars) and Marvel Avengers Assemble. 2012 has truly been a year for rubbish film titles.
Sabrina is hot for a fangirl.
too dark...really?
Don't make me laugh.
shame promethues was sub par
virgins assemble!
This movie was awful. Just checking out what people were saying when it was being hyped.
If you shove any old crappy microfone into a sponge, will it make you sound decent?
aha, quim
90% of the jokes were inside jokes lol lol
3D sucks
Honestly one of the worst films I've ever seen. Bored me to tears.
Grow up.
Aww, Kermode, I was expecting at least you to dislike the movie. This movie was so predictable. It was just a better executed transformers, but the story line was meant for the same immature crowd.
Same, if Mark didn't like the film than how would I be able to like it? My opinions are a pure extension of Kermodes
