im guessing the theory behind the ending was that the slow building tension through the first hour eventually needed to be released. it reminded me of "house of the devil" from a couple years ago, a low budget homage to 70's/80's horror films...i'd check that one out for sure
the ending was perfectly okay. no, they didn't stick to the mockumentary setting properly, yes, some characters could have used some fleshing-out and yes, maybe everything goes a bit too quickly in the end and things could have been explained more, BUT the whole thing worked really well for me anyway. the story was gripping from beginning to end, the acting was just amazing for this kind of movie and the ending was just an awesome trashy and fun way of finishing the story. rock solid movie.
I loved it! the whole movie i was like she's not possessed, oh wait she is! oh wait she's not, oh wait she actually is then aww poor girl. the movie had me guessing where it was set in a supernatural universe or not then in the last 2 mins it blew my mind, like most 'found footage' movies the main people die as per useh which am cool with, i'm use to it, great twist there where little clues to it which showed it was planned and not a lazy twist, kept you guessing fucked about with theology vs psychology, great movie over all!
The film’s issues are the writing & direction, however the film’s A stylish, scary, well acted & disturbing take on The Exorcist (1973) & The Blair Witch Project (1999). (74%) (3.5/5 stars) (positive)
REALLY enjoyed this movie. Although, like most films, the set-up writes cheques the finale can’t cash. There are many, many worse films, though. (Also: “Ernest Borj-neen”? I swear Mark only reads actors’ names and never hears them said 😂)
I loved almost all the film except the last part. The first half is wonderful social satire on southern-fried religion and justifies the mockumentary approach. Then the ending suddenly turns a secular story into a village of the dammed rip-off.
@mm091540 No, I'm sorry but the ending of "The Last Exorcism" was unbelievably awful. I have quite literally finished the movie less than 20mins ago and I'm still quite appalled by its shoddy and mood killing final scene. There was no effort in the writing to link any logical reason for the ending back into the previous hour and 15minutes of story. For anybody looking to watch this movie... DON'T.

I remember feeling the same way, I was invested but the last 10 or so minutes ruined the entire film for me.
Pronounces Ernest Borgnine's name weird here
