When the Leach family decided to purchase Château de Puy Vidal, they knew Julia's father Robert would have to stay behind in San Diego for a year, while Julia, Caroline and Maruca moved into Chateau de Puy Vidal. Robert needed all that time to close down his astronomical research company that he founded 25 years ago, officially retire, and bid goodbye to family and friends.
Not being sure about what kind of visa she was going to apply for, Penelope decided to go back and forth, in order to help move into Puy Vidal, and then help her father with all of the final tasks needed to wrap up the company and their lives before officially moving to France.
At long last, they have submitted their visa applications, shipped the last boxes, sold the remaining furniture, handed over the keys to their rental house, and boarded a plane from Los Angeles to Paris.
Julia, Carolina and Maruca busily prepare the Château for their arrival- nervous and excited to see what they both think of all the changes at Château de Puy Vidal. This will be Robert's second time seeing the Chateau in real life, after his whirlwind visit to sign and get the keys to the Chateau back in 2021.
This is the beginning of a new era at Puy Vidal, where the whole family is finally in residence!

Your dad’s words about life were poetic.
Wow! Your Dad provided some interesting insight into dealing with the nuts and bolts and emotions of closing a 40 year business. What a wise man. Can see him enjoying Tour de France too with his cycling interest. Once he's settled I could see an opening for doing small social cycling tours with Chateau level B&B.

Your dad perfectly summed up the bittersweetness that comes from closing down one life and starting another. Our jobs are often a large part of our identity especially if we own and run a business. So it is fantastic that he now has a new identity a new purpose- Lord of the Chateau 😊.

"The good news is, I have a chateau to visit!" I was waiting for this. :) I just retired, and there is no doubt about it, the change is never going to be easy. But, everyone who lives long enough will have to say goodbye to many, many important parts of their former life. Change comes in life whether we stay or leave- no matter where we live. If we are willing to go on some adventures in life, we may grow in the most unexpected ways.
I’m commenting before the end of the video to say that your dads view of his day moved me to tears. I’m so excited for him and his new adventures! I hope it’s so much more than he could possibly dream!

I'm so happy for all of you! My husband retired at the end of 2021. It's been an adjustment that we have had to work through. I'm sure you all will feel some of the same things we did. Wishing you nothing buy success and happiness!
The wife of a chap that I worked with said to me once that she had a plaque on the wall that said something like "Retirement: Twice as much husband, half as much income" :P

What stands out amongst the excitement and challenges of moving is the love between you.. love between parents & children, siblings, partners, friends and of course the love of your amazing border collie!! I can imagine the star gazing will be so beautiful from your chateau, as will your new life be full of joy, together! Hey Phil, I'm here in Kansas. HA! Actually agree, I was born here but left for New Jersey when I was 20 to work Met a wonderful Italian guy and his family and was married for 52 years. I lost my Jim 4 years ago and he wanted me to be back in KS with my large family and although I love them I recall why I wanted to leave KS. We lived 15 min. outside NYC for 30 years and then retired to the Jersey shore. I LOVED NJ AND MY BIG ITALIAN FAMILY AND LIVING AT THE SHORE 5 MIN. FROM THE OCEAN. Glad your family is complete again. And my Dad was a Bob!❤❤❤❤❤😘

My best friend & husband bought a old farm house with charming Gite. We were all there to visit and contribute to weeks of pleasure of exploring Brittany and Normandy. Their Gite was rented yearly by a couple from the UK who had 4 dogs, which were welcomed into the walled Gite. They stayed for two months yearly which covered all taxes associated with the property. But the other 10 months they were “open” to friends and family.
We shared 15 simply glorious years visiting them on the Brittany Coast! Alas, time catches up and it heartbreaking for them to sell.
We now are neighbors on the coast of Georgia, living by the tides and ocean.😅

All I can say is Thank-you, was feeling all of Robe'rt emotions with closing his office, and company must have been really hard to do, leaving his business and friends, coworker's but happy that he and Maruca have reunited as well as Julia and Carolina, well I know Penelope is going to be quite happy with her mini circus soleil workshops (insert lightbulb here), thank-you again for the 45 minute escape
Ahem!!! Omaha here. We have LOTS of lovely hills. We also have a symphony, opera, much professional and community theatre, a well known music scene, and world-class museum and zoo. Of course, France is a greater adventure than moving to another part of the USA. 😂I lived in the UK for a while and Europe has much more human history, intriguing architecture, and so many languages. I hope Bob (Dad) enjoys the wonders of Europe as much as you and I do! 💖

It really struck me watching your dad say goodbye to his friend, his biking equipment and the Penny’s cars, how many goodbyes happen when a family makes such a big change, we only usually see the excitement and the novelty, but it was wonderful to see the poignant and real process behind such a move. Congrats to all of you for getting the entire family to the chateau...what a journey! I so appreciate your honesty regarding the challenges of figuring out how to all live and run a business together. It's important for everyone to have a specific role, so that there is no overlap. It may take time for everyone to establish where they can contribute the most to the business and be happy with their roles. As you've mentioned before, you'll all need to figure out how to function as a family, a business unit, separate couples, as well as carving out time for yourselves as individuals. I'm really looking forward to seeing what changes you make to the layout of the chateau that works for the family, as well as the business. Thanks for yet another great video!

It is so lovely to see the bonds that unite us together. A quiet understanding and bond of a shared life. That’s what life is about. The relationships we save and nurture, the raising of children and the bonds of that family unit, plus one, that draw us together.
Keeping those bonds, not tossing them away is the most important thing in the world. No chateau, no career, no narcissistic behavior can ever top the unity of the family and their spouses. It fortifies the soul.
