Also, I thought I'd answer a bunch of questions here:
** It's not a butcher block solid wood counter that I'm painting. It is very old laminate that just looks like wood. It doesn't show up in the video so much, but it is scratched, chipped and faded.
** We were listing our house for sale. Our agent advised us to renovate the kitchen. The day we listed the house we had several above price offers. We sold the house and moved out a little over a month later.
** The last time we talked to the new buyers was 6 months after they moved in. At that time, they LOVED the countertops and kitchen, and had no complaints.
** We put the sink back in before painting so that we did not scratch and ruin the freshly painted countertop. This needed time to dry and cure which took like 14 days because of so much clear that I added. We also did not want to go that long without use of a kitchen sink. Also.......if not replacing the sink as we did....who would really pull out the sink to do this? I thought it would be a good idea to show the process as the same that MOST people would be doing themselves, with the sink in.
** I would use trivets when setting hot items on the counter. Once they are cured they can handle quite a bit..but hot pans still stick a little.
** I would not cut directly on the countertop. I always used cutting boards when cutting meat, veggies and fruit anyways, so this is not a biggie.
** Although I haven't seen these exact countertops in 2 years, I post an update of my brother's counters. I did his kitchen 2 weeks after these. No yellowing. There is some chipping along the very edge that could be touched up. He has a family of 6, so his kitchen is a HIGH USE ZONE lol.
** Thoroughly cleaning the counter with an abrasive AND priming the counter is very crucial. If this isn't done well, you may have adhesion issues down the road.
I would have made the base color, the primer you tinted a darker brown like on the floor and then put the lighter on top, would have matched the floor better.
After writing this I see you sold it… Hopefully u did at least MOST of my feedback below:
Your counters look fantastic! Contemporary & expensive too so why in the world you chose those tacky clashing raised-impression backsplash tiles I will never know. They are far too busy, completely killing the sophisticated vibe created by yr new countertops! I actually prefer your old natural wood cabinetry to the clashing white cabinets u chose… consider simple rustic re-purposed wood shelving maybe … and the original hardware was better than the dated-looking swirly brass hardware that looks terrible with yr beautiful silver toned countertops. I was shocked to see that contact paper looking image on your dishwasher. Please get rid of that gaudyAF tasteless thing along with the rug. Your kitchen now looks way too busy w/Completely clashing, non-compatible colors, styles & textures. I usually love yr projects but yr kitchen now resembles that of a 1970s double wide. If you kill the horrible new backsplash, white cabinets & hardware that screams “I have zero taste”… go with a neutral non-patterned backsplash & 1color area rug or jute mat, you will have a classy looking kitchen.
I don’t mean to sound cruel but that kitchen is Way too small to support 6 completely incompatible designs from 3 different decades. Keep it simple, with things that complement and ENHANCE (vs CONFLICT with) your new counters. Again I’m not trying to be ugly but every feature You chose to “upgrade” yr kitchen w/,
shouts CHEAP, except for the sink which flatters your fabulous expensive looking countertops. Your mantra needs to be LESS IS MORE as you rethink & hopefully redo, the cabinets, backsplash, hardware, floor rug, & dishwasher front. Your original gray primer used on the cabinets would probably look great on your dishwasher… Just a suggestion. I will step off my soapbox now as I try to recall some of your previous, well thought out, projects.
@@SindileWren where the hell did you get your diploma in interior design? i can't imagine they taught you how to be rude as fuck!!! Because, last i heard etiquette requires that if you can't say something nice you keep your mouth shut. Not to mention this wasn't a video about the backsplach, the dishwasher, or the cabinetry. So nobody really gives a fuck about your useless opinion. Obviously somebody loved it, bc they bought it!!! Maybe they did some changes to it, maybe they didn't, but at least they weren't rude enough to say anything to her.

You did a beautiful job,I would have never thought this was your first time. This gives me so many ideas again great job .And I can imagine how much this would have cost to get done professionally and you did just as good.I like how you used old bags great tutorial. ❤
To feel useful in needed a very great honor to wisdom's keeping. The experience in life shared, given an opportunity, a very meaniful thing, mostly the best of all what our world is built upon. 👍👌
This is not for the faint of heart. Many people don't have the patience to do a good job. You should be proud of yourself.

I think it looks great Ive been looking for something to do to mine Thank you for sharing your video
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead Thank you for sharing your process. You are very brave! People can be brutal keyboard cowboys. Great job! 😀
You did an amazing job. Will not use mica chips. Please list used products again, paints and sealers. Thank you!!! Babs.loyd@yahoo.com
🤣😂 That would be me- impatient.
Wow, this is beautiful. What a transformation your whole kitchen is. I bought an old 1940 house 7 years ago and have tried to fix it up on a budget. When I bought it the lady had painted the kitchen yellow, with the cabinets pink, green, purple, green. Yikes. I have such a tiny, tiny counter space that I think I could pull this off. Thank you for being so brave and showing us how to do something that is budget friendly.
So glad you posted this video. Most videos are sales and push epoxy. I needed something faster and less expensive and this is the method. Your countertop looks beautiful.
I love her little giggle after a sentence, it makes her seem so sweet 🙂
aweeee, thank you so much :)
Me too!
that giggle is completely annoying after the 3rd or 10th one I turned the sound off and watched it on mute
I love how it turned out, very almost professionally done we learn from trail and error. Love that you targeted normal budget people...
thank you so much Victoria!
One word beautiful

How is it holding up?
You did a great job! Love the transformation and that it was so budget friendly. Makes me feel like I can do this also. I also love the fact you put veins in yours. I have seen other videos where they didn't and I think that makes all the difference to make it really be realistic! Great job!
This is truly gorgeous!!! The best DIY I’ve seen so far with acrylic paint.
Seeing the complete finished product, with the burnish bronze on the counter top, along with the floor. The window and the door colors blend right in. Again, u did a fantastic job.
I’ve seen a lot of them done on youtube, but urs seem so simple and do-able, and u don’t claim to be a pro. 😊
I was not expecting them to look THIS good! I was quite surprised. I may consider doing this with different colors to my own countertops! You did and excellent job! Truly! You should be proud of yourself.
Using a scrunched up plastic bag looks so much better than using small sponges. This I can do. Thanks so much for sharing !!!💞
This looks smazeing do good thank you x
You did a fantastic job on this countertop! This is what I was looking for instead of all the epoxy pours that I really don’t want to do. I just very impressed by how well you made it look so natural like a slate stone tile, very cool!
Girl, I'm having a flashback! Our kitchen countertops
were just like that in the 80s! Lol. I feel your pain.
Well, I'd say you did everything RIGHT When you have results THIS beautiful!! I LOVE the shine!
(As I stand in my kitchen now..eyeing up the counter tops🤔)
hahhaaa....it's tempting right??? Thank you so much for watching!
GREAT job, Lisa. A little paint & elbow grease made a BIG difference! Your kitchen is GORGEOUS. Thanks for the heads up about the mica chips. You're also a great narrator! Enjoy your new kitchen. 💓
Thank you soooo much :) Yep...if I did it again....I would forget the mica hahaha....but still looks great!
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead I agree with Mzbrazell....you did a fantastic job narrating this video and yes, thanks for the heads up on the mica chips!
WoW!!! This is so-o-o beautiful.
Time to irritate my Master Painter hubby and do this to our kitchen countertops.
I painted our master bed & bath to look like you're in an old log cabin, with river stones painted around the shower surround. He still talks about how creative I was with 4 colors of paint and a glass plate.
He knows "proper" painting technique, but I know creative fumbling till you get the look you want. LOL
And several thin coats always work better over a few thick coats. I did learn that from my hubby - his 40+ years of painting experience come in handy for technical wisdom and preservation of the final job. He can also prep a place for me to paint a mural, in no time at all - he's really amazing.
Good luck and joy on your future adventures.
I'm glad the homeowner is happy with her project. That's all that really matters. If other's are contemplating a project such as this, I would like to share a tip. When you have a lot of existing texture or pattern in a space (ie: slate floor)...one might want to remember that 'less can be more'. Instead of trying to match or introduce even more textures, colors, and patterns between the floor, countertop and backsplash, you may find that 'complimenting' the existing pattern and texture vs competing with it may be something to consider. This homeowner added a backsplash that also has texture and pattern, and as you can see...adds a lot of competition to the space. Just food for thought, but it's all individual taste. Again, I am glad this homeowner is very happy with her project.
I agree. I've watched a lot of Property Brothers. They never match the floor. They seem to have a template they use over and over again for kitchens. But it's never matchy-matchy.
I agree!
They look like granite.
Great job very pretty.
The kitchen looks warm and welcoming.
You should be very proud and thanks for sharing
thank you so much Lynn!
Absolutely beautiful!!! The countertops & your new kitchen. Love it! Thank you for the video. I will do my countertops the same, & make the rest of the kitchen similar to yours also...really love it!
Omg! I wish I was your neighbor and found your old sink by the road lol! You did a phenomenal job on your counters!
Good for you!I am so impressed! My husband is a retired cabinetmaker, and he made some great cabinets. We lived on a budget always, but we finally got to have our own cabs done.I opted for painted cabs and laminate counters instead of granite, because I don't like feeling the cold granite under my arms.I love my kitchen, lots of storage,a commercial sink with pots hanging over it.We have to move now,and I am going to really miss this kitchen! If we have to repaint,it would be nice to follow your example with the countertops.Thank you for your video!
love this video! love when people have fun with home products. I am a condo owner with a fully liveable 3 bed 3 bath home but I want to do all of these DIY projects to save money until an eventual reno, however many years down the road that may be. This is so fun!! Thank you for your efforts!
You keep stating that you are not a professional but it came out totally pro looking. Great job! Thanks for the video. I am going to do my counter tops next.

wow i LOVE this! I didn't expect to like this as much as i do.. this is the only video that helps me come up with an idea of how i want to do my mum's kitchen. THANK YOUUUU
Stunning work, and I really appreciate your tips. I want to do a faux copper look on my center island and have done that on a furniture top in the past using the same technique you used for your slate. You've inspired me to go ahead and take this on!
Loved how your countertops came out I think I'm going to try it and like you said if I don't like it we can paint it again. Thank you for showing us how to do it 💕
WOW!!! Countertops look amazing! I didn’t know painting laminate countertop was an option. I must add this to my to do list of projects.
Thanks for watching Jill :)
Enjoyed it also. Have been watching hard epoxy layering steps to redo my laminate counters but now I find your video and a much less expensive way with almost the same look. Enjoyed watching it all.
You did a great job 💜 I am definitely going this route. It's inexpensive enough that if I mess up, I can justify a redo.
I am renovating my trashed rental house and plan on painting my countertop. Thanks for the informative and enjoyable vidso. Looks amazing! 👍
It’s absolutely fantastic. You have the patience of a saint. God bless you.
You did a wonderful transformation on a budget...your kitchen looks great! You have a cute giggle to🤗
This is absolutely gorgeous work. Even with the minor mistakes, they make you better. Fantastic job! And thank you for showing us how.
I love your counter top. I have a u-shape counter because I used to can a lot. I removed a wall and added a counter top over the 1/2 wall. Of course, I did this in the 70's so i had an orange color. I wanted to change it to a more modern color but I wasn't about to buy a new counter. I love the fact that I can change the color this way. I hope mine will turn out as well. I'm 76 yrs. old and love to do this kind of remodeling. I'm going to start this this summer. Thank you for sharing.
Love the countertops, this turned out beautiful.
I just want to say thank you so much we have been wondering for years what to do with our ugly orange countertops we were going to replace them but that’s just a lot of work thank you so much
The burnt sienna definitely made a huge difference. Looks amazing! Great job!
I actually love how it turned out!
great job! love the way they turned out.
Oh, no! I have a stainless steel sink and I would love to have your old sink!!! Great video. ❤😃
I'm hearing that a lot hahahaa.......some people love it....some don't like it as much. I have really enjoyed it the last few years, but it really needed to be refinished. Maybe someone will take it and show it the love it deserves :)
Me too!
@Alexander Ruland put down a sink protector so your pots dont mark and dishes dont break.
I was gonna say. I love that old sink. Its amazing.
They're also great in the garden for container planting. Drainage already installed. Lol

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! I'VE BEEN CONTEMPLATING ON DOING MY COUNTER TOPS, THIS IS WHAT I'LL DO, BEAUTIFUL.
Hi I just saw this and I was very happily impressed. It's easy to have an unlimited budget and just get everything you want done done. Been there done that. But I've also 40 some years ago started doing what you just did when there was nobody doing it and I thought I was kind of unusual but I am so happy that you did that I would so do that again and it's a good way to be able to change the appearance of what you have without the extreme expense of a complete renovation. Kudos to you keep up the great work. God bless you.
you can mix pearl x powder or mica powder to the paint and you won't have to sand

You did an amazing job. It's beautiful. Your little giggle cracks me up lol.
aweee, thank you so much Mary!
Very impressive. I painted mine 10 years ago and it is one of the projects I am most proud of. It took me hours as I imitated granite and used sponges and small paint brushes to add veins etc. I have light sanded and added clear coat about every 3 to 4 years as with young kids they take some abuse and the finish is not as hard as laminate. Every time I've recoated they look like new again. I'm going to attempt my bathroom counter and will try some of your techniques. Great video.
Wow, your countertops sound amazing....and yes, I love that you can update them and touch them up whenever needed! I hope you enjoy the process of doing your bathroom as well :)

I just did my countertops following this method. Got all the products on amazon. It came out spectacular wish I could post a pic on here.thank u so much for this video. I wouldn’t have had a new kitchen without it. I painted all my cabinets, did a backsplash and new door handles. What a difference. It’s like having gotten a brand new kitchen for pennies.
Been renovating my kitchen and the floor/appliances ate up most of my budget. I simply can't afford new granite/marble countertops. I've been looking at a lot of RUclips vids about diy countertops and yours is one of the best results. Imma use some of your ideas. Thanks and thumbs up 👍

What a nice transformation! You did a great job on this! Well done. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great job, not only the lovely countertop transformation, but the excellent video tutorial.
thank you so much for the awesome feedback!
I love how all of your kitchen turned out.
I did mine 5 years ago. When I moved in my kitchen was all beige, walls, cupboards, counter top and back splash. I painted cupboards white and walls medium turquoise.
I looked at many pieces of marble and saw they were all different so anything goes! I bought a kit that had everything in it. Black primer than some white, gray and gold. Turned out super well. A friend liked it so much she went home and painted her counter! Only thing is not enough clear coat. I should have bought more and shows some wear now.
For my back splash I wanted linear tiles that included turquoise. I couldn't find any and I was on tight budget. I found some wallpapers that has my linear turquoise tiles! It is scrubable and people have to go over and touch it to make sure not tile! Paper came from England at $50.00 a roll. Lots cheaper than tile and a cinch to apply AFTER applying special paint so it would hold!
Wow, it would be nice to see any pictures!
What paint did you use to hold the paper on the wall??
Absolutely incredible!! I have horrible white laminate countertops and had the thought of painting them but didn't know if it was possible....thanks to your video I think I will! ❤

Absolutely love this video. You did a spectacular job, and your kitchen transformation is amazing! We bought a 55 year old house 6 months ago, with VERY worn butcher block Formica countertops. Even has the 45 degree angle like yours. This is what I’ve been looking for, as our budget has been blown by replacing all the flooring and lots of plumbing work. Digging through my acrylic paints now. Going to use a slightly different color scheme and will use polycrylic instead of polyurethane to seal. Thank you so much for the great video and step by step instructions. Priceless!!
Lisa, you didn’t mention sanding the countertops. Did the scrubbing remove most of the finish?
Thank you Lisa, you made it look easy, but I am sure it takes a lot of patience. Brilliant.
