This is really helpful thank you so much. Our two-year-old has been gagging a lot lately and we I really thought it was choking but now watching these videos I realize it’s gagging and I don’t know. We just have to let him get through it himself. You know we’re trying to pet his back and get it out and he’s fine.

I hear you, it can be really difficult to sit through 💕 With practice with textures, gagging will happen less and less and you'll get more confident in your baby's ability to recover. You've got this 🙌🏼

How long do children gag? My little one has been eating for a month (is now 7 months old) and she still gags every time. I'm desperate. :/

Hi! My baby gagged for literally 12 seconds yesterday and made no sounds at all. I didn't intervene, but it was so scary because I thought- is this going to turn *into* a choke if he can't get it out? How fast would they turn blue? I worry with long gags that he's struggling and I'm sitting there watching him gag while he's actually starting*to choke. I've almost choked on food before and was able to get it out- but I was definitely not gagging. I assume this happens with babies too. I know there aren't videos of babies choking but when it looks SO much like scary episodes that I've experienced myself, it's hard to relax. I'm so afraid a gag will turn INTO a choke (assuming I'm not intervening). Is that possible? Thoughts and reassurance? :) Thanks!

The thing to remember with baby gagging is it isn't in or near the windpipe but in the middle of the tongue. The reflex is more forward in infants to help safe guard against choking. Turning blue would indicate choking, that the food is indeed in the trachea.
Make sure he is sitting upright not slumped or twisted, that his feet can reach a footrest. This will help against choking as it makes swallowing easier.

Most babies can sit on their own at 7months. If you're worried your baby is not, perhaps ask the provider for a referral to PT or OT for exercises or to see if something else is going on?

the first video where the baby vomits, can that be a sign of they're already full? I see a lot of parents trying new foods on top of the meal the child just had. So, is it a problem of over feeding?

Vomiting is more likely that the baby is too full of milk too close to mealtime and the gag causes a vomit because their belly is so full. That was the case in that first video for sure
