We called it the Burro as it climbed anywhere it was pointed. We were hoping that my wife would be able to get back into riding after some health issues, but after some rides she had some balance issues that came up and she was unable to navigate turns without feeling uncomfortable and would come to a near halt and walk through. So in the year we had it Oklahoma Honda Suzuki did the first service, and Indian of OKC bought it from us. It really is a fun machine, but I work about 30 miles from the house and it would take about an hour without the interstate to get here (did it to get it to Indian of OKC cause I work around the corner from them and it was 57 minutes). So it's not fast by any means, but it did well crawling around the back roads and some lake trails and such when I road it and handled my weight well. I hope you folks enjoy as much as we did.

Did Suzuki stop making these after the 2019 model? The first time I stood one of these off of the kickstand I almost threw it on its right side it was so light. That seat is nothing short of a couch. Love it.
I have a 2019 in orange. Bought it for the kids to learn to ride on (16 and 14 year olds) but Im riding it more than them. I love it and can see me keeping it for my elder years. Only mod Id like to make is swapping that ugly exhaust..i dont really want anything louder just smaller amd lighter.
Suzuki Engineering OUTSTANDING! I've torn into and maintained and owned a few different ones. Of course Honda is King; but Suzukis make sense all around.
Oh no!!! Didn't know they canceled the VanVan. I am in the market right now and have not ridden in 21 years. I really want something small, easy to ride, reliable, and great gas mileage. I've been looking at everything in the 200-300 cc range with more interest in dual-sport models, but the VanVan actually was on my list because of the looks and it still has the ability to do a day on the trails - leisurely. I will not be able to find these new or used in my location and would have needed to order one more than likely. The used market is trash in my area and people want a lot of cash for their used junk. On my list so far: Honda CRF300L Yamaha XT250 Yamaha TW200 Kawasaki KLX300 VanVan 200 Of course three of those models (minus the two new 300's) can be used and interested in anything used that is within the 200-300 cc range. The issue is nothing has been listed except for an overpriced TW200. I didn't purchase anything because of covid last summer, seemed like no one was listing (just like now) or they are asking way beyond the true value of the bike. I will be honest, I keep coming back to the TW200 because the local Yamaha dealer does not have the price jacked while the local Honda dealer has 2020 CRF250L listed at 600 over MSRP and can only imagine what the new 300's will be listed as in the coming months.
Very nice, I have been looking around for small cc motorcycles for my son. He just turned 14 back in October, and soon he will be taking the MSF course at osu. So I definitely gotta find a below 300 cc for him soon.
These are a very tough machine to find around the country to be honest. I just did a run to CycleTrader and there are only 12 in a nationwide search of all conditions. There are probably a few more of them running around on other sites not listed there, but even then that number is going to be low. We got lucky. There were rumors it existed as a trade and I confirmed it just before they completed their Facebook post that it was on sale. But we had already sprung into motion and before that same hour was complete, it was ours. It would be a great machine for sure to start out with if you find one. The TW200 is out there in good quantities though and that would be a great place to start. There are also some new KLX models with 300 engines coming in and of course the Yamaha XT250 is a neat machine as well that fits into that category. Also Honda with the Rebel 300. I would avoid the CB300 to be honest, a bit stiff and uncomfy.
Your son may see the VanVan as an old man's bike. My son liked his TTR125 so much when he was 14 that he just recently bought another at 28 now. His old man has a TW200!
I was in the market for a TW 200 as an occasional town and fire road putter to leave at a mountain home when I visit. Here in So Cal dealers want 7500 to order one and maybe see in June, Im not paying that for a T dub. Also not paying 4k for a 30 yr old T dub. Fortunate to be grabbing a super clean 2019, 250 miles, gray & brown VV tomorrow for a great deal. Like the TW, but really dig the VV OG looks, FI and limited availability. I know its not a TW offroad, but the VV will do me fine.
not sure exactly WHY..............but I have had a soft spot for the little VanVan since I first seen one in person 2 years ago. To me, in its class, there is only 2 bikes. The TW200, and the VanVan. And it is ever so clear how each is intended. In my humble opinion, it begins at the 50/50 mark. If someone is going to spend the majority of their time OFF Road, the TW is no doubt hands down a better choice. I have always been more of a 30% OFF road, 70% On Road rider when I had bikes that had off road capability. So for me the VanVan would seem like a better choice. However, there is a 3rd factor. Passenger. Not that there is much room at all on the TW for one, but there is virtually NO room for me and my little wife to fit on the VanVan. lol Don't get me wrong, I do not recommend a passenger on either. Just saying is all. Yet another lovely video dude! @ 12:33 .................. priceless!!!! hahahahaha!!!
My VanVan 125 is a fantastic bike within its range. Let's not start skipping over the alps or commuting on motorways . This thing is a great bike, nippy up to about 40mph (max heh) can get you round the bus, great visibility low cog so chuckable and comfy. Don't mean to be a dick but I couriered for a fair bit when LC 250s roamed theath and I would have snapped one of these up, perfect city bike, with a bit of trailly capabilities, I love it.
I have the same colour Vanvan. Put 42T rear sprocket, small windshield on this bike can go 60mph all day. A rear rack makes it a great camping bike. Suzuki never advertised this bike welll IMO. I was told it's the same motor as the DR200.
I’m from Oklahoma and am considering buying a van van. Love the video! Where would you suggest finding some good trails or off roading opportunities around Oklahoma? Thanks!
I really want this as a second bike. Believe it or not we have dirt roads out my way in NJ, a bike like this would be perfect to tool around in the Pine Barrens and dirt roads of western NJ.
Rode many of the piney back dirt roads in the Garden State with my Honda S90 whIle stationed at McQuire AFB during the late ‘60’s. Great time in a great state.
I never understood why the rear drum brake. Put a disc on those TWs and vanvan. They are better and there's less to them cheaper to make, also they are more easy to work on.
The advantage of drum brakes is that you don't have to wash the road salt out of the calipers every winter. I'm all for having the drum brake on that count alone.
I think Ryan F9 summed up drum brakes perfectly in his Suzuki TU250 video. Yeah it’s got drum brakes, but it doesn’t matter when it doesn’t go fast enough to make use of a disc break on the rear. From many folks I’ve seen online, the VV125 has trouble cracking 50mph (and most only go above that speed when down hill and wind assisted 😂). I’ve recently bought a 10yr old VanVan as my first bike..and so far (inner city traffic), that rear drum brake has been more than enough.
The VanVan was known as the Do-it-All bike. One of the best budget beginner bike for dirt or road. Used you can find these things for $700-$2500 from reasonable private sellers and not those people who think their ride is made of gold. I found a handful for around $1,000 - $1,800 2009-2015s. Suzuki TU-250 was a sad departure and VanVan joining it. Over engineered, simply designed and rock solid reliability. Probably the reason why it wasn't good profit for them. Now we got to deal with weird retro naked sport bikes full of plastic, odd styling, and inflated prices.
Sometimes if I have to approach a taller machine than I can even swing the leg over I use the stirrup method. Place left foot on the beg and stand on it and then lift the leg over. Sometime that suspension will sag just right and it's good from there.
It would take a while. Although I have hit I-35 here in OKC area the top speed is 68 maybe maybe 70, but it cannot hold that. It's much more comfortable at 55. So I know the roads down there are more regular state highway at 65, but it will complain. It even has a fuel cut off if you push it too hard. Did it and it shut off at an indicated 71.
Not advisable in my opinion. I have been riding for years and never been as scared as when I took my (125) onto a bypass, not even a motorway (UK). I was flat out about 50 mph. Cars were flying past me around a third to twice my speed. really dodgy. I kept flat out, flicking my brake lights as being rear ended was a real possibility
@@RabidHedgehog not really sure yeah I have been finding some really good deals on cb300r from 2019 still new. Just something for gas mileage and inexpensive insurance.
The XT was for sure a more offroad capable machine and was able to get around more than this one. But for road use it cannot top this one and its comfy nature and shockingly better on road suspension. So for on road and commuting about this one seems to handle it better. But off road XT all the way.
@@RabidHedgehog not comparable I reckon , X5 a bit more off road I would say, the XT5..droool. The X7 250 tuned by Joey Dunlops mechanic? Now we are talking, total weapon, just didn't seem to know what corner we were taking
With much luck and determination as they are rare to find now that they were discontinued. This one was a trade at our local dealer I happened to catch.
Sometimes known as engine braking or roll off braking. It is the act of using the engine's own resistance without throttle input to slow the machine down.
I mean I am a larger size and I did kind of make that happen. There was a video called "The Eyes and Mind." May have not of been a review, but it was actually one that I could be seen riding it. ruclips.net/video/I18tZFbvxHY/видео.html

Interesting motorbike but I would rather take a Honda CRF300L that is the same money in Thailand. One should even consider a Honda Rebel 300 that is also at the same price in Thailand. Both with 50% more engine and Honda reliability.

@@cristiandragomiroiu4842 I lock it....they just pick it up one strong guy or two regular Joes
@@alphacapo I was refering to locking it to a light post or a fence with a chain. Good antitheft chains are difficult to break
@@cristiandragomiroiu4842 well your going to get tickets. Your not chaining your bike to my fence. (Not a big deal but that's how people are.) Bottom line is if someone wants your bike. They will take it in a matter of a minute chain or not
I've got a 75 RV90 that I built into an offroad bike, after loving that thing I'm really considering finding one of these
Did Suzuki stop making these after the 2019 model? The first time I stood one of these off of the kickstand I almost threw it on its right side it was so light. That seat is nothing short of a couch. Love it.
They sadly were stopped after 2019.
@@RabidHedgehog, did they stop making it, or stop importing it?
@@Dave-sw2dm tough EU regulations forced it out of that market.
Magic Rooster , I guess that will means my 2017 will hold value if I keep it in good shape.
They are still manufactured. Available where I live: Thailand. They don't give a damn about Euro emissions.
Good little honest bike
On my list so far:
Honda CRF300L
Yamaha XT250
Yamaha TW200
Kawasaki KLX300
VanVan 200
Of course three of those models (minus the two new 300's) can be used and interested in anything used that is within the 200-300 cc range.
I thought I was the only oklahoma vanvan owner lol it is an awesome bike
Oregon State or Ohio State?
Very nice little bike.
I live in OKC too and have been looking for one, wish there were more on the market.
not sure exactly WHY..............but I have had a soft spot for the little VanVan since I first seen one in person 2 years ago.
I’ve had about 5 125s , I loved them but they are a bit gutless , got myself a Japanese import 200 now .
I have the same colour Vanvan. Put 42T rear sprocket, small windshield on this bike can go 60mph all day. A rear rack makes it a great camping bike. Suzuki never advertised this bike welll IMO. I was told it's the same motor as the DR200.
It can of-road pretty well, I have ridden these before on a farm (my mate has one they use on their farm when walking their dogs)
I get the 125cc love it
just got a 125 2008,love small bikes
I’m from Oklahoma and am considering buying a van van. Love the video! Where would you suggest finding some good trails or off roading opportunities around Oklahoma? Thanks!
I’ve been riding this to take my test and it’s pretty cool
What a pity we didn't get the 200 version in the UK. Just the really, really slow 125.
VanVan 200 disappeared from Suzuki USA website this afternoon. It was listed under the Dual Sport category until this morning.
Well in my garage the legend will never die.
They do look like fun ! It is a pity they have stopped making them.
I'm thinking the pity is riders didn't buy them...
They do make them. Just not for Europe or the US. Available in Thailand and other countries in Asia. I am buying a new one soon.
where are you from ?
Oklahoma
Future electric ⚡ version of Vanvan maybe in the cards.
Dam!! I got one!! 2018 model. They discontinued it? Seriously?
Sadly did, sadly did..... I am glad we found this one.
I’ve recently bought a 10yr old VanVan as my first bike..and so far (inner city traffic), that rear drum brake has been more than enough.
nice looking ride
Been looking at them, If one was close by I would probably buy it to go on the back of my 1978 GMC RV...
They are freaking hard to find. This one I was given a heads up on about 30 minutes before it went on sale, but we had it within the hour of notice.
@@RabidHedgehog They are rare here,, Will keep an eye out...
Nice review, We got everything but your horoscope
🤣👍
The VanVan was known as the Do-it-All bike. One of the best budget beginner bike for dirt or road. Used you can find these things for $700-$2500 from reasonable private sellers and not those people who think their ride is made of gold. I found a handful for around $1,000 - $1,800 2009-2015s. Suzuki TU-250 was a sad departure and VanVan joining it. Over engineered, simply designed and rock solid reliability. Probably the reason why it wasn't good profit for them. Now we got to deal with weird retro naked sport bikes full of plastic, odd styling, and inflated prices.
I totally prefer the inflated tires of this bad boy over the plastic. hehe
If I'm getting into Bikes this Van Van 200 will be very high on my list for my first bike, Suzuki still sell one where I live imported from Japan.
Is the seat brown or is that an optical illusion?
It is very brown.
My problem is seat height, short inseam and injury doesn't allow my right leg to swing on a tall seat height.
Sometimes if I have to approach a taller machine than I can even swing the leg over I use the stirrup method. Place left foot on the beg and stand on it and then lift the leg over. Sometime that suspension will sag just right and it's good from there.
How would this be as a commuting bike from duncan to lawton, ok I have to comets 78 miles daily
I see...thanks for the info that will help in my decisions.
Where is Duncan ?
Not advisable in my opinion. I have been riding for years and never been as scared as when I took my (125) onto a bypass, not even a motorway (UK). I was flat out about 50 mph. Cars were flying past me around a third to twice my speed. really dodgy. I kept flat out, flicking my brake lights as being rear ended was a real possibility
It’s weird how the 200 version has 5 gears while the 125 has 6 🤔
It’s sad that Suzuki stopped making it but Suzuki has already been a low rate level company . I’m buying a Yamaha . Great video guy ..
heh heh, getting righteous and locked it up. Done the same myself heh. Sound video mate.
I see one on my local fb marketplace a 2020 I think. How much do you think it's worth?
The last year was 2019 and they should be around $3950.00
except they're impossible to find.
Sadly they are
Hey just realized you lived in okc metro area I live north metro I am about to get my first street bike for school and work. love your vids
Thanks! What are you thinking about getting?
@@RabidHedgehog not really sure yeah I have been finding some really good deals on cb300r from 2019 still new. Just something for gas mileage and inexpensive insurance.
Haven't they stopped selling them here in the 'States?
Sadly yes
How is it compared to the XT250? Which do you enjoy more?
The XT was for sure a more offroad capable machine and was able to get around more than this one. But for road use it cannot top this one and its comfy nature and shockingly better on road suspension. So for on road and commuting about this one seems to handle it better. But off road XT all the way.
@@RabidHedgehog not comparable I reckon , X5 a bit more off road I would say, the XT5..droool. The X7 250 tuned by Joey Dunlops mechanic? Now we are talking, total weapon, just didn't seem to know what corner we were taking
nice video and review!
Thanks!
I almost bought the Van Van for my first bike. I got the TU250X instead.
I like them both very much. I still want a TU250X
I wanted to buy a new one... sadly Suzuki doesn't make these anymore : (
I know it's very sad
Where do you find one ?????
With much luck and determination as they are rare to find now that they were discontinued. This one was a trade at our local dealer I happened to catch.
What is compression braking?
Sometimes known as engine braking or roll off braking. It is the act of using the engine's own resistance without throttle input to slow the machine down.
I would ike to see how a Large person fits on one, most reviews don't show that.
I mean I am a larger size and I did kind of make that happen. There was a video called "The Eyes and Mind." May have not of been a review, but it was actually one that I could be seen riding it. ruclips.net/video/I18tZFbvxHY/видео.html
@@RabidHedgehog Yes, you did do that thank you. The bike is bigger than I thought it was. I've only had big bikes but now for some reason smaller engines have my interest, I don't know why.
May vanvan ba sa Pinas ?
Just got a 2018, it had 100 miles on it. But I have to say I think the seat sucks. Way too hard.
Mr. RH, This vid has been up for about 8 hours, can I tell you that playback quality is awful - I'm getting no more than "Auto 360p", no options available. Your stuff is usually much better it must be RUclips... Best, Pete.
Yeah it would possibly be RUclips. This video is uploaded and coded in 4K, so I would guess they are having some hiccups.
Interesting motorbike but I would rather take a Honda CRF300L that is the same money in Thailand.
One should even consider a Honda Rebel 300 that is also at the same price in Thailand.
Both with 50% more engine and Honda reliability.
It seems like you like it better than the TU 250 X
I think there's equality between them. The TU250 is more for the urban clean roads where as this one can take a bit more of a beating. I would have both in my perfect garage.
Rabid Hedgehog thanks for the response! Big fan of your channel 👍🏽
I like motorcycles because they don't course global warming. big 4 by 4 and cars and big vehicles cause global warming. That one of the reason.
Haven’t heard that name in a while
Yeah they are a bit of a rare breed.
i'm thinking of 'monkeying' mine. 2017 Black and silver. keeping the parts clearly. not just some Irish biker nutjob heh. any thoughts gents and ladies?
Enjoy your videos but that has to be the most boring motorcycle riding area in the usa. I've been through there several times on those long flat straight roads with no real trees. Love this bike though!
Could find the lonely highway and make it marginally worse.
