This was one of the better Die Hard rip-offs, and any movie with Powers Boothe as a villain automatically gets points.
Plus, watching JCVD MacGuyver his own spear gun was pretty goddamn fantastic.

I feel a lot of JCVD movies do have a lot of intentional comedy in them. Of all the 80's 'batch' action starts, JCVD probably is the most self-aware. With Arnold Schwarzenegger being a close second.

I was 7 years old when I saw this. One of the few scenes I remember was JCVD setting the guy on fire with the toy water gun he filled with butane and holding a lighter at the end. As a kid I thought it was brilliant! Reminding myself to try the same thing if I’m ever in a similar situation.

Some of JCVD’s best movies are the ones where his character isn’t a martial artist. It’s like he’s not wasting time trying to figure out a reason to do the splits in every scene 😂

Powers Boothe in a dinner jacket is like James Bond's shady brother. He was so cool, upped the quality of everything he was in.
In the end credits, the character name Spota is from director Peter Hyams' awesome space western "Outland."
Oh, and Fig Newtons are tasty for breakfast 'cause they're not too sweet.

this movie is one of those wich reminds of what a cool and good time was the 1990's. the location and settings are cool, the whole movie looks good, pacing is perfect, the plot is simple but not dumb and there is tons of really good action. and compared to movies from today, the villains where pretty charismatic in the 70's, 80's & 90's, powers boothe was awesome. perfect cinema to relax after work, without being forced to listen to political messaging and reminders of what will be tomorrow.

Speed is directed by the cinematographer of Die Hard - Jan de Bont - quite purposefully hired to evoke the SAME style.
      THE DIE-HARD FORMULA RECIPE:
