- We've got a world exclusive! It's not often we get to say that. If ever. Here's Merida's song from the Disney/Pixar animation Brave, sung and played live by the very people who perform it on the soundtrack - the incredible Julie Fowlis with Eamon Doorley and Duncan Chisholm. And they let us film them while they did it. Amazing.
In case you were wondering, Eamon's playing a gouzouki. He swears it's a real instrument but we're not convinced. Julie is wearing a frockcoat in Modern Caledonia tartan, by Sandra Murray MBE. We're full of facts, us
'Touch The Sky' was written by Alex Mandel.

I'd like to hear this song in Gaelic.
Oh my that would be wonderful!!! I was enjoying it so much that it never crossed my mind about Gaelic. Splendid idea!
Anna Ferrara check out some of her earlier work, the soundtrack for "Brave" was the first time she sang songs in English
Anna Ferrara ikr
This is in gaelic I think
@@lewishumphries862 it's not
Her accent is so amazingly attractive. Beautiful woman with a beautiful voice.
i have the same accent haha
Sidnei Richard Pagliaroni I do.
TankManHeavy thanks x
It's called Scottish
proud to be scottish cause of comments like this lmao
For anyone who loves Julie's voice, she's also released multiple albums singing songs in Gaelic.
I love them all, so I wish they'd translated the two songs from Brave that she sings into Gaelic.
The guy playing the guitar is her husband
Geez! I think I want to see them all!
Ditto
@@ALu-nq8rf Oh yes! that's such a cool idea. I wouldn't even mind that I couldn't sing along. ;-)
I feel like the band deserve so much more credit that they've received
exactly. I love this and "into the open air" so much. I wish I could hear more of them.
@@najjjjjjj yeah, the meaning is so deep
1:09 there's something about the way she sings "deep waters"...
yeah it is amazing!!
It's predominantly Gáidhlig (Scots Gaelic) she sings in usually ruclips.net/video/jJQgHlXMB3Y/видео.html like that being Tha Mo Ghaol Air Àird a' Chuain meaning My Love Is On the High Seas
Agreed! There's great heart to the way she interpreted this song
Scottish and Gaelic influence
It's the Sean-nós influence.
MOST UNDERATED MOVIE EVER
+heyaitsmegs Xx Yeap
Tzu Kit lol no it has 7.2 rating
bIGaSs PuMp and it’s a bloody great one! Last Disney film I watched till it went to the shit
Kilted Killer I guess you haven’t seen Coco or Incredibles 2 🤷♀️
JBS #7 aren't those from Pixar though. (Even if the companies are joined)
ThumbsUp If touch the sky is better than Let it go 😘
~Dear previous likers, thanks for spamming my NC 😑
Thumbs up... really.. loool shame.
Soo much better than let it go
Definitely. I'll listen to Julie over Idina Menzel any day.
TheDauntless2468 realy? Me too
Kristy Old Absolutely. I've never been impressed with Idina. I feel like Julie has more talent as well. Besides, I absolutely love Scottish music!
She makes me proud of my Scottish roots. :)
@@DavidCanik325 😳
Makes me so proud of my Scottish roots :)
I wish I'm Scottish... 😁
Same here, lass. Though for me it's more heritage than roots.
Reminds me of my gran and mom
Gran a Scott and mom born in Yorkshire.
Proud to be Irish! Long live all Celts!
acoustic versions always the best
you get to see the artist is genuine
That was the thing I loved after watching this video, a genuine artist.
How are non acoustic covers not genuine?
@@headofathousandsheepswool Just from what I know, take something like electric, you can fake it because on the track the guitar would be louder than the real guitar but with acoustic ot would be the same volume. Also with acoustic guitars the strings are very sensitive so any wrong move would lead in the fakery being exposed anyways
I love her voice, her accent it's sooooooo cool
Quinn Humphrey her accent when she speaks is even more anazing
Uist accent! Beautiful.
Even without auto tune her voice is still angelic *sighs* 2019 and I'm still here ...who's with me?
She doesn't use auto tune. She uses ornwhts in her singing that are common to traditional Scottish music. :)
Its 2023 and I’m still obsessed
2023 now, still here!
I'm here in 2023! Still sounds awesome! Who's with me??
I love scottish accent than british!
I'm British and this is offensive
Angus Macdonald I believe they are different.
Jui ce I'm sorry. That was just my opinion.
+Kokoro Pororo Scotland is in Britain. I think what you meant was you prefer the Scottish accent to the English accent. And, as an English person I have no problem with that!
You mean England accent
This song makes me cry unicorns and happiness :)
Ajit Dhillon no Brave
You cry Scotland's national animal?
***** not forgetting Wales' red dragon...
wombleway Wales' national animal isn't the dragon though, it's a national symbol of Wales and is the unofficial national animal, but the national animal of Wales is apparently the Red Kite.
Haha. Best sentence ever .... Gonna copy it
Now this is what I call true TALENT.
Caroline Gorman lol she is just bloody singing with Scottish accent :P
We need Brave 2!! And series and more movies!!! For continuing generations of Merida till 21st century. That would be an incredible hit❤️
How is this movie so underrated 😔 Merida will forever my favorite Disney Princess and this song is such a masterpiece ❤
Same chief used to be held by bell. Huge crush on her then Merida came out ooooof I was hooked.
People always talk about Frozen (uncontrollably), and they see Elsa and Anna as the 'perfect' princesses, but to me, the perfect princesses were Merida, Mulan, and Tiana, who stayed true to themselves, and showed us that princesses aren't just all glamour, but they're fierce and true, and still manage to keep the honor of their families.
Beautiful song + perfect voice = Julie Fowlis
Scσttisђ Siℓεηcε my will to live + this song = me jumping off a cliff
@@DavidCanik325 literally

All this is magic. This woman has joy in her heart.
Her voice is so pure and she makes it look effortless. I also love how into the singing she gets. Beautiful song!
When the cold wind is a'calling
And the sky is clear and bright
Misty mountains sing and beckon
Lead me out into the light
I will ride, I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky

Where dark roots hide secrets
And mountains are fierce and bold
Deep waters hold reflections
Of times lost long ago
I will read every story
Take hold of my own dream
Be as strong as the seas are stormy
And proud as an eagle's scream
I will ride, I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky I will fly

I wish they'd translated this to Gaelic, since, you know, aside from this, she sings almost exclusively in that language.
go to a chanel called glasgow1234 some of her gaelic music is there!
I've listened to it. That's why I specifically want this song and Into the Open Air translated and for her to sing those versions.
I CAN'T
This song, her voice, her accent, and that smile OOHHH😍
It's all so beautiful, help
I first heard Julies’ beautiful, singing voice in the movie “Brave”. I was hooked! She sung the song beautifully and perfect! I had to find out who she was. This song is on my playlist.
Saw the movie recently. Julie's voice jumps from the sound track and grabs your heart. The song and her voice are pure and call you to the hills of Scotland. I had hoped to find this on RUclips and was delighted when I did. Wish you all the best and thanks for this lovely song.
This is brilliant, her voice soars and she makes it seem effortless.
This song with her voice in perfect. I like how it's a simple organisation of instruments. Very enchanting...and inspiring.
i love how the modern animated movies are teaching more than just romantic love.
these movies are aimed at children and its good to find messages such as love between siblings or love between mother and daughter. that makes me much happier than "finding a prince" movies.
Her voices warms my heart... it makes me feel so safe and warm :) She looks like a nice person to meet and talk to
this song makes me feel like i can do anything, my heart skip a beat when i hear her sing!
she's got one heck of a voice! very talented!
I wish this song was longer! I love her voice 😍
So glad Disney is giving us such beautiful masterpieces :)
And you three.. You're just perfect!
This song brings a huge smile to my face, every time. And what a treat to see Julie Fowlis singing it. Inspiring!
The best song in the world, and the lyrics are pure poetry.
She's gorgeous. Great voice sounds better than in the movie ♡
Julie is pretty amazing. I saw her on RUclips singing with my favorite band Runrig.
beautiful voice for a beautiful lady
Indeed sir! Cheers mate!
Rob hay aye cheers pal
I almost forgot about this song. I used to always sing this song after watching Brave in correct accent and became a big fan of scottish culture. I'm so happy I bumped into this video again! Brings back so many childhood memories. 🥺
I miss Disney stories that were like this with a soundtrack like this
This song is one of the things that got me to Scotland on my own.
This gave me goosebumps. Love her voice!
The people that dislike the video don’t understand the heritage behind how the Scottish lived their Gaelic lifestyle and who they are and how they Trace their heritage back. Amazing, well done great job
Out of all the Disney movies this one is still my favorite because it is different.
This one I use at my selfdefence classes with my students. They are 3y old up til 15y. A happy tune to warm up with! =)
From Sweden with love!
This song is the best in my top 10 favorite Disney princess songs
1: touch the sky
2: part of your world
3 how far I'll go
4: for a moment
5 let it go
6: reflection

9:I see the lights
10: almost there
Nice list
I absolutely love it when singers and performers close their eyes during a song! To me, it means they’re touching the music!
"as strong as the seas are stormy" brings me to tears every time.

Proud tae be Scottish. Halban agus bródúil!
RSDG Pipe Major 1st Class Geoffrey N. Stiùbhart I've always lived in the U.S but I'm 60% Scottish and I've always thought I had a really super subtle Scottish accent, and I can do a pretty good one too.
Jeremy Smith Yeah! I'm also really pale which I've heard is common in Scotts.
Jeremy Smith Not at all! I live up in Toledo Ohio near the Ohio-Michigan border, sort of close to the east coast.
She’s so natural and beautiful
Good to see Duncan Chisolm on the fiddle - a real master. He was great when he appeared with Runrig at their goodbye concert too.
The soundtrack is immensely powerful and hits me so hard but being so heartwarming! This is one of my absolute favorites! :D
how could anyone dislike this?
Vanditha Sujeer well there are some but you shouldn’t question their choices :P
Dude her voices is everything ❤️✨
World class professional artistry, nothing more to be said.
Her voice is so perfect especially since its live
Who's watching this during 2020
2021 now
Merida is the BEST Disney princess ever!
Her inflection with words like "proud" is so angelically sung. Goodness.
I have a little bit of Scots in me but have never been to Scotland. Pictures of the Highlands remind me of the Appalachians I grew up in and hiked over. There's nothing like looking into a deep valley from inside a mountain forest, or walking along the narrow ledge of a cliff face. It's most incredible to remember that the fastest way home from school was down a rock slide -- my friend and I did it in suits and ties!
16denier I've stayed in Glencoe twice, sadly no more than a day each time -- once camped in the town itself with stark peaks on all sides (and went hiking too), once in King's House a few miles up the A82 with Ben Doran towering out my window. Also drove up the Great Glen. Worked in Cumberland Gap for a summer and can confirm it's very like the Appalachians; no wonder the music is so similar, not just the ancestry but the terrain and weather both have the same feel and atmosphere. Get out there if you can. I'm not Scots but the literature and music drew me, and I want to go back again.
Adrianne Webster I blame Patrick Stewart for that. On an old episode of Star Trek The Next Generation his character used the term "Scotts" to denote Scottish ethnicity. I assumed (wrongly) that being from the UK he would know better than I.
This is old but you might find it interesting if you didn't know already - the Appalachians and the Scottish Highlands are the same mountain range, split up as the continents drifted apart. That'll be why you look at pictures of the Highlands and are reminded of Appalachia
A guitar, a violin, and a beautiful lass...
What more you need?
She's done it, the jolly adventurous spirit Scotland summed up in one beautiful song! Well done wee lassie!! You do Mother Scotland a great honor!!!
Brave was such a great movie that I wish they would make a great sequel!
I'll never get over her voice
So proud to be Scottish!
Lifeastoldbyheather and i would be proud if i would die
Touch the sky is so much better than let it go. I am so in love with the scottish accent. It is perfect.
I loved that song the first time I heard it in the movie, never new it was Julie singing!!!
Still here for her voice "2019"
The only thing wrong with this song...... it could use another verse... or 2. Not long enough. I'm always so sad when it's over. :)
My favorite Disney movie and my favorite song ❤
I defy anyone to listen to this song and not smile right down to the core of their heart
HOLY MOLY ENERGIES LIBERATION BIRTH TILL FOREVER END OF TIME....PERFECT
Best thing is this is our collective energies...thank you
Her accent makes the song even better
The high notes especially make me tear up. So heartfelt, so beautiful
i love everything about Scotland.. i was the happiest person on earth when i found out about brave !! the accent the nature the music everything is just amazing !
This is beautiful.
Bradman Shepherd unicorns are the national animals of Scotland! How appropriate!
hits me right between my Celtic soul !!! ... and gives me goosebumps every time sung with Celtic heart and fire !!!
This is my favorite Disney song, hands down.
Feels like magic.
I think this would be a good wedding or funeral song
Your username is perfect
+Amy J Thx is that Melanie Martinez on yours?
Who’s still listening in 2020?
Hadn't heard this song in a while, I must say....I really think this song is incredible and Julie is very talented :)
I'm tearing up, this is so beautiful.. still one of the best songs out there that needs more views ❤️
この曲も映画も大好き!メリダにはすごい勇気をもらいました。
shit, what happened to the night? it became a day. its winter, but i can see fckin poppy infront of my house. its midnight, but all the birds just flew to my roof and are tweeting loud. neighbour just brought a cheesecake to my door. wtf? i should not play this song loud without headphones..
CHEESECAKE OMG
Love not only this song but the whole soundtrack as well. Best movie ever. Am proud to be irish. Luv celtic music!!!
No one ever writes true, meaningful songs like this anymore. Everyone is just so caught up in society.
I wish I had a Scottish accent but it hard since I was born in the U.S and I’m Puerto Rican but never learn Spanish.
I know this is from the brave soundtrack but it also seems like such a Tiffany Aching song to me.
I like how she says; Mountains and Out and Proud, with such a lovely accent!
Awesome melody, awesome voice, awesome lyrics.
Omg, I still can't stop listening to it over and over again :D
Outstanding "unplugged" performance. Fowlis is an amazing singer. The only downside was that she really needed some backup singers for the "Na Na" parts. Those just don't work with one singer, no matter how good she is.
Also it really infuriates me that this song only has two verses. It really needs a third one.
I prefer when Julie sings in her native Gàidhlig than English
I agree. But I think she still did an incredible job with the English. :-)
this gave me chills! this is just beautiful
The world is getting more talented because of people like you. Thank you!😀😁😁😁😀😁😀
Scottish women are so beautiful especially the ones who have a natural red hair
It is a myth that Scots are red heads. There are far more red heads in England n other parts of the world.
