SLOW JIGGING HOOKS - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW - While I rig a Maxel Dragonfly
There is still a lot of confusion on how to select hooks for slow jigging - the greater majority are confused because they don't really understand what slow jigging is and what it isn't. There is a huge disconnect between Japanese manufacturers who have been supplying the hooks to the Japanese and Asian markets that have adopted and understand this technique for a long time and for a market like The USA that does not really understand and is new to this technique. There are a lot of assumptions and the proliferation of these assumptions - also people who think they understand and having these people spread their assumptions. In this video, I hope to get things clear and get the correct information across as well as sharing tips and tricks to make the process easier for everyone. From defining what Slow jigging is and what it isn't to how to select hooks to make effective assist hooks with.

Have learned alot from this video , thanks

What size braid do you use to secure your assist cords?
Is there a list of good/favorite hooks for slow pitch somewhere? I have looked for a couple I have seen in your vids but I cant find them anywhere in the USA. Looking to Tie my own Assists for 100g-300g level 1,2,3

how to make assist for Spanish mackerel 😢😢😢
Waych the rigging videos with the wire
@@TheFishingKit any video reference
@@TNVillager Yes, just use the search function of the channel
Great educational video! Quick question, do you have to wet the cords before tightening? Thanks 🙏
Not if you have a firm grip on the tag end when you tighten. Moisture affects superglue - if its wet, how can you glue things properly?
What type of thread are you using to bind the cord?
Fishing braid - PE 0.4 or thinner
We’ve got a unique situation with regard to regulations on the west coast of bc in Canada that makes using typical thin wire hooks very challenging- we are only allowed to have one single barbless hook when fishing for salmon and only one hook on your line when fishing for rockfish, lingcod and halibut. With rockfish you can still use a thin/light wire hook like the 7269 no problem but a good salmon or Hali will straighten it out with ease…So, with the one hook I’ve had to go with something slightly heavier but still thin for its strength. I have been using the vmc7264 instead, and when fishing for salmon, pinching the barb. I really wish we could just use more than one hook on the jigs so I could use lighter hooks but here it’s just not an option, so we have to improvise.
The 7269 isnt a light wire hook - the light wire slow jigging hook from VMC is 7117. I have yet to see a 7269 stretch - especially on lPE 2-3 mainline. If you want a really good heavy wire barbless jigging hook check out the Gamakatsu Kamaitatchi.
@@TheFishingKitah ok I got my hook numbers confused then :) The other one I tie assists with is the gamakatsu 510. They seem to penetrate really well for a thicker wire. I’ll check out the hook you mentioned too, always good to have a number of them that you can count on! Cheers
👍🏼
80 gr jig how many no assist needles should be inserted
you can put 1, 2, 3 or 4
Little off topic. What hook model would you suggest to consider for shore jigging 60-100g speed jigs for bluefin tuna up to 50-60kg? I use about 15kg drag, sometimes up to about 20kg to stop them. Should I look into round hooks or angled? Maybe you have some model in mind? I make my own assists. Tnx
So far, the only flat angled hooks are for slow jigging. There's quite a few that can do the job to tell you honestly, Any heavy wired jigging hook from a reputed manufacturer would work. Personally, an Owner SJ 41 would work really well.
Thanks Kit! I know we are spoiled here in the States. Great video as always. Check out the Maxel page some nice looking jigs on there . Ever use any of their rods?
Hi Max, I have the Risky Player rod and use their jigs fairly use their jigs as well.
Are they circle hooks?
No, they are not - they are specific Jigging Hooks.
@@TheFishingKit i thought it was because circle hook's barb points at the eye also. Thanks!
Where did you buy that slow jig lure? Looks nice
It's from Maxel - so you can get them in any Maxel dealer.
Sadly we don't have any here in the Philippines. Can you recommend an specific online store where I can buy one?
Might be worth checking shopee or lazada? @lown8505
@@TheFishingKit no luck finding it there
too bad....I don't know any online shops that carry them in that part of the world. Someone is bound to copy them there for sure...as is the usual thing people and even big shops do there. @@BuhayProbinsyaFishing
If the fishing is that difficult because there are so few fish left it might be time to stop fishing there altogether... Nothing is endless.
If you choose to stop fishing, go right ahead :) the fee of us that ate just too stupid and stubborn to stop will continue on.
haha few complaints about dogs barking ha...🙂
The dogs are part of the video 🤣
