    Here's a video of how to make simple slow jigging assist hooks (or slow pitch as fondly called in the states). This is a very simple video on how to make them with eyed hooks, the hooks used in the video are the VMC 7269, which I believe can be purchased in the US now.
    I tried to make this video as easy to follow, although there might be some tools and materials used that might need to be purchased if you don't have them yet. I also talk about how you can make the process of tying a lot of these more efficiently, like when you want to tie tens or dozens of these assist hooks.
    THIS VIDEO IS LONG! But I guarantee you will learn a few tricks to make them more efficiently and clean.

    Great video as always...
    Is there a reason why you tie the solid ring first vs tying the hooks and then tying the solid ring?
    Is it just to make sure the hooks are facing the correct direction?
    Thanks...

      Just a different style, some people do the hooks first, I just prefer doing the solid ring first because IF you do the method I used for the top hook assembly, it takes a lot of time. So, if I knock that bit first, it would be easier for me.

    Great video Kit, very useful. But, man, that bit on finishing the rear hooks by tightening them on that block with nails in, that scared the crap out of me, imagining if one of those nails failed! Now I gotta have a coffee before watching the 2nd half!

    • @TheFishingKit

      They are in hardwood pretty deep Owen, they are also just in contact with a small section going sideways, so they're not going to pull them out of that wood. :)

    What do you think lf splicing the cord around the solid ring and piercing the cord with the hook, I use Vanfook Jigen without an eyelet. That gives a super smooth connection! Vanfook assist hooks come in the same way when you buy them pre tied.

      That's how some assist hooks are
      made, as you mentioned. Just as long as you tie them correctly, they will hold.

    Hi Kit,
    As someone who just got into the slow jigging I really appreciate your videos. Do you mind sharing what thread you like to use in your bobbin? It looks much stronger and cleaner than what I have been using for tying flies.
    Thanks!

      I use really thin braid James, but it is japanese braid, so even if it is rated at 4lb, its not like US braid thats very thick (since US braid tends to overtest by a huge margin).

    If this works, then great. But the knot you do onto the hook is wrong. All you need to do is a half hitch and burn the tag so that there is a ball on the end. Then you can wrap the braid down the shaft to constrict it. Spearguns just use a half hitch with a ball on the end and they hold over 300kg of load all the time.

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  2 года назад

      Kizz, it is not a matter of just putting the knot on and "it works". There are a lot of reasons why BIG companies do exactly the same with the examples I showed. Spearguns are very different from assist hooks. :)

    • @kizzjd9578
      @kizzjd9578 2 года назад

      @@TheFishingKit yea that’s fair enough, not saying the whole thing is wrong, just saying the way you tie the knot, you could make it slimmer by doing a half hitch instead of a granny knot. But if it works, it works.

    • @TheFishingKit

      Different hook "heads" call for different ways of tying them. This is the best way for an eyed hook.
