I can already picture Thom showing off his dance moves to this song on stage 🙂
Yesssssss 🕺
He already danced to this crazy whenever they played this song live💎 ofc playing the bass kinda limits him though.
I need them back in Argentina 😩😩😩

Thin Thing and Thin Thing 2 was so cool that they makes Thin Thing 3
I think Thin Thing is officialy a genre now

Bro, this sounds crazy! Damn, Thom and Johnny never get old!!!!!
Age is a state of mind - they are forever young
In a near future, most delay pedals will include a "Greenwood" knob.
dont know how i feel about "touching greenwoods knob" whenever i play guitar but its a nice idea 😂
@@notillusion7133I feel pretty good about it
I legit thought it was sequenced. I still feel like the bit at the end might be. Brilliant in any case.

Sounds like if Thom is having a good time in a Jazz concert
he loves jazz now woohoo it isn’t a car advert anymore!
I like the idea of jonny composing this riff while laying bored in a hospital bed.
Thom: "Hey Jonny, how are you doing?"
Jonny: "Bro, you better start practising "
Please excuse my ignorance, but why a hospital bed? did he have any accident or illness?'
@@17silencehe fell particularly ill recently. He seems to have recovered fully tho
It definitely sounds like it. But. They’ve been playing this live since March 2024 or so. I believe the first live performance was Dublin or London. 😊
@@italyball2166 Yep, today 28th August, should've been in Valencia for their antepenultimate gig of this tour - a decision I made after already having seen them at Alexandra Palace in March!! Loved it sooooo much wanted to repeat!! However, in July was when Jonny fell ill, and they had to cancel the remainder of tour. Any luck, and with new album out in October there'll soon be a new set of live dates. Best to all!!

October 4th? Awesome!
Honestly I would love it if The Smile a whole album in the style of Zero Sum and Thing Thing.

it would be fucking boring
@@Egor_Balandin The Smile works best up tempo to let Tom Skinner go nuts on the drums and Jonny do all his wacky delay tricks. It would be anything but boring, so many song ideas they could explore in this theme.

@@karavilasLUCKY!!!!!!!
A few years ago Jonny did a new version of Steve Reich's "Electric Counterpoint" (performed it live). The original guitar piece on Reich's album, "Different Trains", was played by the great Pat Metheny jazz fusion guitarist.
So if Jonny can pull off that composition/piece on the guitar live (or at least a new version) he should be able to tackle this finger picking. Steve Reich heard Jonny doing this piece and was impressed with his work, so offered to work with him on this new interpretation. I thought it was pretty brave of JG to even attempt this piece of music. It may sound simplistic with it being a minimalist composition but it is far from easy to play that stuff.
Reich liked a couple of Radiohead tracks and Jonny's soundtrack album/compositions for, "There Will Be Blood". Reich
"Radio Rewrite" has five movements, alternating fast and slow, and is scored for clarinet, flute, two violins, viola, cello, two vibraphones, two pianos and electric bass. It premiered in London in 2013, performed by the London Sinfonietta, to a generally positive reception. Attention focused on the Radiohead material; some reviewers praised how completely the work is integrated, while others questioned how suited it was for Reich. Alarm Will Sound made the first recording of the piece for an album released on Nonesuch Records in 2014" - Wiki
See "Radio Rewrite" on Wikipedia for more info on this project...
PS, Btw, Steve Reich's/Pat Metheny "Electric Counterpoint" was sampled by and can be heard on, The Orb's - "Little Fluffy Clouds".
And that's a whole other story!
Was there, and have been obsessed with this song ever since
Gonna watch this using Windows 95

Well. Proof needed sir.
@thepetevonde you're being too confident dude. You know that's a red flag....
Bro u ever realized it's 16 Mb?
The guitar is absolutely nuts. Jonny seems to keep on expanding the downbeat clawhammer + delay technique he introduced in Present Tense, Loop, Thin Thing, etc. And now with even wackier results.
What is a downbeat clawhammer
@@claytonkramer7234 He basically plays the guitar like a banjo, with fingerpicking. But he does so by hitting the strings on the downbeat and making the string ring on the upbeat. He does that in a very fast manner, then adds specific delay to make the notes repeat in the empty spaces. This creates a very disorienting effect. Check out the "Present Tense: Jonny, Thom & a CR78" video, it's a good example of that.
The Present Tense guitar sounds entirely different to me...really pretty almost Spanish like.
I'm a Gen Z kid living in Thailand. I really like your art and will follow you forever. Love from Thailand.
Thom Yorke’s voice is aging beautifully by not aging at all.
I love how his voice sounds in all eras. It has definitely aged though, he can't do the screams and belts of the Pablo Honey/Bends era anymore, but that has forced him to get more creative.
So ready for Cutouts. It'll probably become the second greatest left turn in music history
Studio version of Eyes and Mouth. I'm so fucking sold already.
There's never been a better outside project by radiohead including two key members. These guys are always creative and age like expensive wine .
I initially read this as aging like expensive twins and it somehow made sense?
This trio is definitely becoming 80's King Crimson
Started off quite van der graaf generator too
and this is not the good thing
@@sufyanlowel4631good thin thing
They should join the Beat tour.
A good friend once described 80's Crimson as the Talking Heads on crack. I believe he meant it as a compliment.
I didn’t know it was possible to rock this hard. I stand corrected.
The run that Jonny starts playing when the horns first come in (1:33) is where i finally "figured out" this song. His playing in there reminds me of the solo in Paranoid Android.. or how far hes evolved from then. And Tom's drums... this song is a damn masterpiece.
It's on repeat.... And i can't stop.
Same!
Jonny has really outdone himself here, how is it possible
the fact that Weirdcore is the same visual artist for aphex twin makes this video even more fantastic
Wow. Posting after hearing the 30 second sample. This song is so intricate it demanded a studio version and they’ve come through perfectly.
I showed this song to my Dad, whom I've been trying to get into Radiohead and The Smile (unsuccessfully), and he said that this song, I quote, "f*cking slaps"😂
I've been trying to get my dad into the boys for years... The Smile got him to change his mind on them, now he loves them. We saw them in concert together. Keep up the effort, it's a joy to bond over your favorite artist

Finally, Microsoft drops its new marketing promotion for Windows 95.

Thom’s voice sounds so different on this song! It’s very unique :O

That guitar work is insane! Drums killer… brass amazing… what a song!!!
Finally, I found a song by The Smile that I love as much as I love Radiohead's top class songs.
This song is just so genious in so many levels.
Thom and Jonny must have this alien song writing device to keep writing songs that sound fresh and ready to be played live 😎👍🏼
Yeah they do, it’s called a brain. It was made by this non-human thing called evolution. When paired with a soul it can pull ideas from Non-Physical places that regular uncreative folk don’t know of. Read Rick Rubin’s “The Creative Act”
This is too magnificent for me to put into words.
The artistic concepts, visual and musical. Is a an area no other artist knows so well. What is seen is as important as what is heard. They have always embraced.
NEW ALBUM = NEW TOUR AYEEEEEEEEEE
Sadly I don’t think so soon, Cutouts is just unreleased songs that they have played in concerts already as far as I know. Planning a tour takes very long and since Jonny is still resting from his medical issue, I don’t think it’s for anytime soon. But we can consider ourselves lucky to get these for sure!!!🤗🤗

Thom Yorke: hmm, what rhymes with "the system will provide"?
I've been thinking about it, perhaps he's referring to how a lot of our society (the system) is running on old tech. Stories about hospitals and stuff still running Win95 and how it's a huge threat to our safety
Me walking to my parents room at 3am to tell them I shit the bed
Jonny is KILLING it on this song. It grooves so hard and love it!

Ohhh waoooo. It became very dynamic and exciting. The atmosphere of the clip fits well with the lyrics. The fast dynamic movements and cuts are reminiscent of the matrix experience. The clip plays nicely with the lights, the contrast is damn good, it's not too provocative, but sufficiently "aggressive". Jonny's brilliant and unique guitar playing is impressive, and Thom accompanies it with a cheeky youth in an amazing rhythm, with his completely unique voice, the softness of which he always chooses perfectly for every song. But I admit, I'm so fucking biased...You guys are so good. I love you guys so much.❤❤❤
Whenever I'm walking anywhere I now play this song in my head.
This is interesting…the relative softness of Thom’s vocal versus the harrying rhythm. Nice! Love the energy.
So excited for this! First they dropped a new single on my 26th birthday this year and now this. Can't believe we might be getting another album so soon!
Giddy up. I'm happy that The Smile isn't just a one-off type project. I dig it 🍻

How does Jonny even comes up with riffs like this. Amazing!
Me: I must have misheard Thom Yorke repeating "Windows 95" in the chorus.
Thom Yorke: Windows 95, Windows 95

I already have a feeling that this is going to be even better Smile record than Wall of Eyes
I liked wall of eyes, but I think a Light for Attracting Attention was better. Though I do love either album, have them both as CD's. I may go to a concert where the Smile performs with this album. Curious how they will do it live
I think this is the Amnesiac to Wall Of Eyes' Kid A. Though this time I think I'll prefer it
wall of eyes was a masterpiece imo i loved every song. This has big shoes to fill but so far everything ive heard is amazing too
