Even if the melody is childish, it’s really hard to follow, specially for a kid. It definitely took them out of their comfort zone. It made them feel like there is more than just what they know. Sone of them were so attentive, or deep in their minds 😊 such a weird and beautiful idea for a video!

It’s especially impressive in his case, because of his range, how long he’s been touring, and the length of his shows. It would blow my mind listening to Thom sing Nude pitch perfect like 2 hours into a show. One of the most gifted musicians ever.

I love how the kids reactions range from confused to.. mildly amused to.. bored to.. “I like lights!!” I feel like a lot of other bands would only go for this idea if the kids were somehow forced to look enthusiastic about their music.
But this isn’t just any band.. directed by just any director.
It works for this song which has such a push/pull between catchy and somewhat deliberately flat and tuneless stretches. It’s the Smile’s way of showing “yeah, we know this section is less immediately fun than that section. So what?”
I feel like the overall audience in concerts today behave somewhat like these children. They expect to be excited in every single song, they need shinny things and climaxes to feel something, or they get bored.
Well, they don't have much choice, don't they? They can't just leave if they didn't like it. It's not some kid birthday party, they were forced to be there
it's not bout the reactions. it's bout capturing moment with their friends (as a kid), as time capsule.

They’re such a great combo, Thom is one of my favorite singers ever and Jonny is just a great composer

What's gonna be even more mind blowing is how they took this performance for granted. I don't know if the instructor made them look bored, but I imagine I'd find this sort of music boring at their age, too.
I heard the full album last Tuesday at the Wall Of Eyes On Film-event in Amsterdam and I won't spoil anything, except to say that it was a blissful experience that I enjoyed very very much. Very. This video is a gem btw. And funny! Thom is such a happy camper now. Who would've thought, 25 years ago. Hurray for old age. And psychedelics.
I agree, but I would be careful about giving psychedelics the credit for a growth a person experiences. Psychedelics can help for sure in the right context, but there's also great risks to any mind altering substances. From what I've read in interviews, Radiohead are on record for saying they don't dabble in drugs (aside from the occasional drink and pot). I would credit mindfulness meditation before psychedelics.
All that being said, it's very nice to see Thom has found some peace and appears much more at ease and happy these days.

This is what I’d imagine The Beatles might sound like if they were around today. Almost sounds like a modern day Sgt Peppers song. Yet uniquely its own. It’s incredible that Thom Yorke is making music like this at 55. So inspiring. The GOAT!

Honestly, it's an interesting experiment since the children can't lie. Obviously it's not a music for children, but when the lights turn on, they look happy. As a primary school teacher, all of these facial expressions and involuntary movements are deeply familiar to me. In a way, being oneself in front of a class feels very similar to performing a song that's way over their heads. Then again, if the younger generations aren't our true ‘audience’, who is?
Now that I've become a father, I love this damn genius even more!
The last few bars and the somber reaction from the kids caught me by surprise. 'All of that money, where did it go?' Powerful.
So simple and so beautiful to watch. The idea of including the kids and then capturing their raw reactions is pretty brilliant. I loved it. Paul Thomas Anderson is the master.
I am a very critical person in my both professional and personal life. But there is one exception being all things related to Thom Yorke, Radiohead & The Smile. Love their stuff. Always evolving, always exciting.
I keep coming back to this, each time finding new subtleties in both musicianship and docu-videography. True master class ❤

Not only is this a great song, but the video really moved me - seeing all those children react to the music in such an authentic way, wow! Kinda reminded me of the first time I listened to In Rainbows, I was a teenager at that time, but I still remember all the complex emotions it brought up in me.
Fun fact: Now that the album has been released, I found out that that errie startup droning noise on 0:27 is actually the ending of Under Our Pillows. So this was the earliest snip it of a song that hasnt released until now.

This is probably the best song I've heard in the last two years. Tom & Johnny can always compose fantastic songs. I feel a strong The Beatles vibe here. Great idea with the kids in the clip, it's really fun to watch their reactions.
The video is so great. I was lucky enough to see it at the Wall of Eyes on film screening in London last week. Fun fact: Tom Skinner's kid features!

The screening event wasn't a single film, it was a combo of a bunch of things - some exclusive behind the scenes footage (no audio), of the recording process, full album playback in surround sound, the premiere of the video for Friend of a Friend, and screening of a few other pta x radiohead/thom collabs, including Anima.

What was playing on the screen during the other songs that don’t have music videos?
@@NoRUclipsName1so when they played the whole album for the first time the songs were accompanied by the art made for them (basically just what the friend of a friend audio yt video is for every song) and then any songs that had a music video were played again with the video after that :)

I loved watching every child's reaction and expressions to the music. I expect this was the idea behind the video. So wonderful.
The kids of these kids will be playing Thom and Jonny's music and wow will they see this moment differently then.
When these kids are the age of the band members (and are educated enough to realize what legends these band members are), they'll blow their friends minds when they're like, "Oh Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead and The Smile? Those musical legends from our grandparents generation? Yea I saw them at the height of their powers live just a few feet from the stage in a concert for me and 20 of my friends."
