After so much content about right to repair, scummy companies & lobbyists, it’s so refreshing to have a break to return to just watching a wild Louis in his natural habitat
I swear to god if you dont keep making these again im going to be sad. We might not be the biggest audience of your channel anymore but i work in tech and and love seeing you use the same troubleshooting methods I do but on something I do not fully understand.
I have missed this! There is something both relaxing and satisfying watching you talk your way through a repair. You might claim to be not as good as your employees at repair, and that very well may be true. However, I am sure none of them could match your commentary on a repair video. This made my day, Louis. Thank you!
Yes! Seeing a pupil grow to surpass even yourself knowing that you are responsible for setting them on that track is one of the best feelings. It also doesn't hurt when their efforts earn you some bank along the way.
Ive had really good leadership at jobs before who helped me grow into an equipment specialist where i had the most knowledge on site about the equipment. It was incredibly rewarding and I'm incredibly greatful for my old boss
Nice to see you back in the shop. Next shop video: fixing the power brick for the light. Many people have non functioning power bricks and a little knowledge on what goes wrong and how to correct it goes a long way.
Respect for returning to board repair and keeping up an interesting conversation - 4 years in management and you've still got it haha. Nice work on the diagnoses and repair, genuinely feel like I've learned something (besides immensely from keeping in the loop from your other content) that I could carry over into something to learn more. Thanks for all you do and your honesty!
Louis, I just wanna say - I watched up until 17:03 and I gotta say - you're a really smart/product/order/engineering-aware, smart hack. I respect you base-level knowledge and it's application to projects/issues you're probably unfamiliar with. Kudos, good sir, truly hats' off to you! Embodiment of work smarter, not harder, right there! ILY
@@rossmanngroup Not sure if this is the song you were thinking of at the end, but it your description reminded me of it: ruclips.net/video/RvVfgvHucRY/видео.html Hope you enjoy. Also, really proud of you, that you can still step-down from a manager, business owner. and big 501c player, to actual in-trench board work. This is why you're one of my heroes, Rossmann!
One thing I've really learned to appreciate with the skill of good micro solders like Louis and others is how damn small some of those components are. They look big on camera under the microscope but in reality they are so, so damn tiny. Really takes a lot of practice with a very steady hand to be good at it.
Yeah. The capacitors in phones are mostly 01005, or 0.01 inches by 0.005 inches. Which is so tiny that you need a microscope to even distinguish them from specks of dust.
Louis, even if it’s just from time to time, keep up the repair videos! Even if you do a team up with someone in the shop, it’s nice see you go back to the roots.
Although i dont have any apple machines to fix i really learn a lot from your video,s Thank you! , i think this the only channel were i can learn to trouble shoot and find out how terrible it is to live in New York
Yes! A macbook repair video. I have missed and totally watched all of these. (Seriously though, i have watched most of them and find them informative, and fortunate)
Im really glad to see a little more positive content from you, i understand time is truly of the essence, but you have your sanity to keep. It will improve your effectiveness i concur
Man I remember when I first started watching this channel so I could brush up on my soldering. Now I preach to all my friends and neighbours about Right to Repair. Now I'm watching a board repair video again. I feel like I've come full circle
I watch you from Colombia and I love your content... I've learned a lot about technology, language, social stuff and much more...since I'm not yet in a position to suppor financially your channel I just wanted to say thanks.. so... Thanks Louis, for everything.
Didn't watch, but listened while I was working. Think most of us just enjoy listening to you talk about whatever. As you said, board videos are therapeutic for you, they can also be therapeutic for us. Win, win. 👍
Louis you are a gem and we're all happy you're happy and working on that Texas accent (after a beer or two). Yeah, hot, so enjoy the free hot air sauna, its a dry heat. I think your face is looking healthier too, stress relief and that inner joy working itself out.
I don’t understand what he’s doing and why he’s adding water to an already water damaged laptop. I want to learn and understand. But because I know absolutely nothing about computer repair, it’s frustrating to watch
I had a chrome book that got water spilled on the keypad. Instead of trying to see if it worked I put it in a large plastic zip-lock baggie along with lots of rice and left it alone. 3 days later I took it out of the bag, started it up and it worked fine. I was lucky.
1:25 I've had really good luck with Neewer CFL light boxes and LEDs. They may not have the highest quality construction but the price is right and they just work.
Louise back in the shop banging out a circuit board repair like the good old days. Nice work as always. Loved the bit about getting closer to a solution vs further down the rabbit hole. Gonna add that logic to my skill set.
Saw your post about these videos not doing well and losing subscribers. While watching it, I realised I never subbed to your channel. Hopefully my small +1 will help offset the usual loss, so you keep doing this incredibly informative and high quality content. Thanks for what you're doing.
I like seeing the come back of old school Lewis. Not that I don't appreciate your work in the other videos, I just miss the sleepy time board repairs I used to fall asleep to and wakeup to rewatch. Love you brother. Keep up the good battle.
I for one enjoy your repair vids, its good vids to watch while i eat food Keep up the good work even though if the vid doesn't do as well as your talking couch vids.
Back to the basics episode I see. Nice. That loose hole in brick, if you don't want to repair it fully, take post it, fold it twice, and stuff it next to your connector, cut excess. Easiest and holds well enough.
Hey Louis, I absolutely loved this video! Many thanks for making the effort to set up, record and post this content. This is the kind of content that made me subscribe to your channel in the first place. It's great to see you 'back in the saddle' again! I hope it was as good for you as it was to view. I look forward to more actual hands-on repair videos from you.
I've learned a lot about the craft of PCB soldering from watching your technique, thank you for continuing to upload these! Unlike many you know your stuff!!
Great board repair video. Your channel with the repair videos has always been fascinating for me to watch. After entering into electronics manufacturing a little over a year ago with no formal training of any kind, I still find it fascinating to watch repair videos despite working with board assemblies daily. Also, great tip for controlling shaking. Occasionally, I encounter certain components that are placed manually versus with a machine and I tend to struggle with that.
I can't even replace a single microusb port and here you are doing this with the tiny tiny resistors. can't believe that they go into place like that. I didn't even get past the desoldering part it just didn't work without a heatgun. Gonna try again with one, it's 500 degrees celsius but the thing was deemed unfixable anyway so either it works or not
Of course, repair does make you super happy, that's why I am a repair technician. I try to do a bit of component level with what I have but nothing compared to Rossmann sadly
OMG its been so long. I miss these videos, I know I am probably in a minority but I love watching you do board repair and have watched all the others. Its good to see a new one.
The damage and what got spilled on the motherboard loosened the fibers of the board adhesive so the pad will not stick and will break off. We were told to use an epoxy to re-affix the pad. Since the PC board can be made out of different materials some epoxy’s will not work.
So good to see you back repairing boards. No one knows as much about macbooks as you Louis and it really shows... You are a master of your craft. And the fact that you have employed and trained people to be more effective than you shows that you're a great teacher as well. This is what we are here for! And i'm sure it gets boring for you and that's why you do the rant videos, but this is A1 content right here.
Thanks for sharing that elbow wisdom.
Nice profile picture
fuck, the fact that that works is weird.
It's something you learn in art and calligraphy classes, too. Wrist straight, move from the elbow.

Couldn't agree more
I had the same feeling. Feels good
salty louis working at macbook.....mmmm happy day, and F**k drivesavers burn in hell!

tbh i was kinda getting tired of the political shit even if he was right

It will be fun when he breaks it instead. Years of credibility, lost in one video.
