This video took me 20 years back while i was working for a chip level repair company where I used to do the same to the desktop and server motherboards. Thanks sorin as every time your repairs are next level.
I am a Spanish speaker, I don't know how to speak English, the RUclips translator helps me a lot to understand, I have learned more with Sorin watching his videos than other Spanish-speaking technical channels; Thank you Sorin for being very didactic and an excellent teacher
It's so impressive how these translation tools give us access to content from all over the world. The fact that I can understand comments from people speaking other languages is so fascinating to me.
@pepeluis670: If I feel too forced (work, shopping, a visit abroad) I speak English (with a Spanish accent or tone and I see the faces of my interlocutors... (laughs). Another way of saying it, since I don't want to lose any detail or sense of some word during the conversation in another language, I watch the videos twice, the second time in my mother tongue and with a notebook in hand. A brotherly greeting (we speak the same language).
@@robbirobson7330 I believe so , Alex is skilled but everything just about the money, He won't dig deep after 20 mins deem no fix and charge the customer repair attempt fee. I understand time is money but at least try bit harder for the sake of the dignity of the business .
@@Customer22374rt its all shorted caps and mosfets. when i was in the business probably only 30% was shorted caps or simple repairs. mostly we had defective chipsets, video chips, northbridge southbridge etc, pwm ics or something complicated. The business is never like they show on youtube.
Sorin, love your videos and keep up with the good work, however, I'm a bit sceptical on using plain tap water on electronics. When I did electronics back in the day I was told to use de-ionised or distilled water to avoid mineral deposits on the contacts of the electronics and short when water evaporates. Well done mate! Bravo 🎉
Just look at Adrian Black from Adrian's Digital Basement who is washing all his computer motherboards with tap water, just putting them under the shower. You can see that for a brief second in any of his videos, in the Intro. No problems so far and he washed hundreds or maybe thousands of them. He talked about this and showed the process in some of his videos. And he is not the only one who is doing this. Maybe tap water is not the perfect way to clean, but it's working. A isopropyl alcohol rinse after washing it's advised.
@@doruciobanu2261 how is it "not relevant"? he told you about a guy who uses tap water without issues. I'm looking at your nick, is it just a case if balkanic stubbornes?
Tap water is fine. Repaired hundred cashregister mainboards that had liquide damage (pubs). The trick is the drying, we always used compressed air to blow away the water an dry the pcb. My 2 cents.
I had a 25mm chain gun in the US Navy that stopped working and I suggested to my shipmates it was the blackbox that was faulty. We say blackbox because its hands off. I open it to find salt water inside. A good rinse in fresh water for awhile and a nice hot hair dryer and the bullets were flying again.
(16:25 - 16:35) In this case, the thermal camera leaves no room for doubt: IC TAS5770ACO running HOT but without its previous fault analysis work... PCB "doesn't know how to float"? That was not a problem today for an expert aquatic rescuer (Sorin is his name?)... a most sincere congratulations. All the best.
@@AzuaraRuiz-md1bi : Thanks for the info. I went to check the mouser page and you're right (3.32 bucks), the only thing that puzzled me was that when I downloaded the datasheet (right there on the mouser page) it references this part number TAS2770. I saw the schematic for each terminal and it corresponds to a 30 pin IC that uses reballing like the one in the video. Another way of saying it, so TAS5770LCOYFFR = TAS2770 (they are pin to pin equivalent) and both made by Texas Instrument. Again, thanks for your answer because it makes us investigate (deeper) and that's how you learn. Motherboard? Yes, it is very expensive (prohibitive). All the best.
Wooow impressed. He could have went straight for the thermal cam with that low ohm main power rail. But the issue for me is how he has access to the board view?? Where does he get that info? Would love to have this also
You probably blew the audio ic! Do like Rossmann: after cleaning with water put the board in alcohol an bake in oven 20 min at 80 deg C., so all water has 100% evaporated. Now connecting to power is safe ! Just my advice. Nice video sorin as allways....
How did the sound chip die? One possibility is there was liquid damage, it just wasn't that noticeable. Another is that while the board was being washed some of the sugar solution from the cola or whatever it was got under that chip. But ultimately - who knows? Great video.

hey, a coke spill made my playstation one load 4x faster. (no idea how given its cd based). only went back to normal after same person who spilled the coke dropped the playstation 😂 proper calibrated spill that one.
i think the cheap was heating up because there were some water trapped underneath it and it made a short on the chip, just don't use tap water like that and after using distilled water rinse with IPA and heat up the board a little much more so that the remains of the water evaporate completely.
Hold the toothbrush by the head with the bristles facing up. Steal your wife's hairdryer if you don't have a hot air station. Warm the shaft of the toothbrush just the other side of the bristles with the hairdryer without burning your fingers. The toothbrush will bend and you can get up to a 90 degree angled head. Much easier to clean around tall components.

how the IC got shorted??? really? isn't it obvious enough? maybe the speakers got shorted by liquid? you should check them frist, then resolder the new IC
I will NEVER understand how someone could treat something so expensive so poorly. I've never had a computer die on me. Every one of them was used until it just didn't meet down for what i needed it to do. I'll just never get it.
Same here, but my daughter spilled something on my expensive laptop. I took it to get repaired, but the repair shop didn't have Sorin. They just told me to order a new laptop because it was liquid damaged and beyond repair. At the time I took their word for it. Never again.
Whenever Sorin fixes macs he is very sloppy. You start by looking at the power rails and go through the list. With schematics and boardviews available its very simple to follow through in a methodical way. Like louis rossmann does. Sorin is great with PC laptops when he has no schematic but unstructured when it comes to macs.

Sorin. He said these components are expensive. The customer has to decide if he wants to pay for a new chip or if the main thing is that his computer turns on and goes silent.)
Would you rather have no laptop at all or no sound on one speaker? I would chose the latter. It is hard finding chips for apple products and if I was the customer I would rather have my laptop back now then wait over a week for a chip. They will still have stereo sound with an external amplifier.
Send your MacBook to Louis Rossman, he will charge you 1200 dollars and replace the amplifier. Sorin got this job from a local "repair" shop. That means fixed fee. Probably 60 pounds or less. de-ionised or distilled water would be better because of residue that can stay after tap water.

hey sorin, does the audio work without that chip on both speakers?
MacBook loves water, coffee , milkshakes
@nickhaldem9626: Also beer, sweetened tea, any liquid; and sometimes behaves like a "parachutist" (landing on the ground).
A solution of 40% Distilled water and 60% 99% IPA to force the water to dry quickly and not linger also does wonders on drinks etc
