This isn't actually a normal video it was auto generated by youtubes post edit system. Louis and his coworker died in a terrible explosion after they attempted to open the mac book.
So I opened a customer's Macbook Air, and after recovering from lithium burns from the exploding battery, I removed the SSD, followed by the screw. I then put solder on top of a chip and put it back together. And guess what. It's still broken and I'm now seriously in debt from being treated for lithium burns at the ER. I'm a genius, I knew this wouldn't work, but I did it anyway just to prove you wrong.
It possible to get burns if u know.. your stupid or clueless and end up puncturing a full charged battery. But other then that this battery’s don’t cause issues unless u start doing serious modification to the power controllers without knowing what your doing. Hello Louis, A few days ago I ordered a Capacitor for a 2010 15'' Macbook. I replaced C9560 because the machine would somewhat randomy kernel panik. And it worked. Your videos not only entertain me, but also saved the MacBook of a DJ. Thank you!
I am glad to hear you performed the repair successfully. Good job on not toasting the CPU, and congratulations on getting something up and running again! It feels good to do it with your own hands, doesn't it?
I SWEAR TO GOD YOU JINXED MY LAPTOP. You'l never guess what happened as soon as I reread your comment after seeing Fahad Zafar's spelling correction. The screen froze, Louis began repeating the words "ay have random shutdowns" on loop and the caps lock LED began blinking, for about 10 seconds. A stack trace appeared, and a few seconds later I saw the familiar Lenovo logo. I'm laughing way too hard right now for it being half past midnight. Actually I'm laughing harder then I have in a long time. Whatever have I done, I don't know, but karma was certainly activated at that moment. Congrats on the fix, but that is one hell of a coincidence all three things aligned.
pretty sure that whole „you lose your data“ thing is just because they replace the entire machine which includes the ssd... i bet they dont even check whats wrong. even if there is just one connector or screw loose, you simply get a new laptop
Meanwhile, I'm sure the hipsters who use Apple will claim to be eco-friendly, drive a Prius and tout they care about the environment will completely overlook the consumer waste this creates, and carbon emissions moving unnecessary parts around the country.
This kind of thing makes me upset. My friend came to me with their 2011 Macbook Pro with flashing folder on boot. She took it to the Genius who said they can't repair it and they need to buy a new Macbook (which she did before she came to me) 20 minutes of troubleshoot found the $18 SATA cable was faulty, replaced it and boom! Working again. After all that, the Lithium battery blew up in my face and now i'm scarred for life.

At this point in time it's well known that they don't actually repair anything they just replace the whole part that they think the problem lies Yet people still buy the overpriced junk
The fact that Apple has stated and tried to Sue people stating if anybody besides a certified Apple technician takes out a piece and replaces these same peas with the exact same park and model number from Apple magically transforms the Mac into a busy this should kill any consumer all they need to know about how Apple runs their business and how they really don't care about customer satisfaction they're trying to squeeze every iota of money out of their green washed followers

I worked in Geek Squad during their decline. I was one of the last agents to receive Apple's training which allowed me to work on their machines. Bottom line is the in store agents are not authorized to fix things anymore. I'm not saying the Apple training is the only way to learn to fix things, but it did help me. If you have the warranty, they'll send it to a repair center. If an agent offers to fix it in store, he is going rougue. If anything goes wrong, he'll get in trouble and the store will generally leave you high and dry.

A while ago my Dell laptop was experiencing the blue screen of death when inserting my SD card. I did everything possible update drivers, trying Linux to read SD card, updating the bios. Since I tried everything possible I took it to Best Buy and used my protection plan to get it fixed. They insisted that it was a virus even though I was running Linux and told my they will charge $100 on top of the $300 geek squad plan I paid when I bought the laptop. I insisted that it was a hardware problem and made multiple trips to the store trying to convince them to repair my laptop. At they end the agreed to send it to their repair center and if the computer was ok they would charge my $40 for shipping (wasting their time). When I got it back they replaced the motherboard ($400 part covered by insurance) and the computer ran normal. Geek Squad takes advantage of people. Back then I was around 13 years old and they thought they knew more than me. I learned my lesson when Circuit City’s Fire Dogs took advantage by selling us $300 for antivirus and spyware installation.
As someone who worked at a Best Buy in the computer department and by proxy worked closely with Geek Squad, I know that it is a massive shit show to deal with Apple products, but I have never heard of bullshit on THIS level before.
I disagree, my customer service experience has always been this bad. My last purchase at BestBuy was for a head unit for my car. I bought a refurb unit. It arrived missing knobs and buttons, I know its a refurb but can they at least check to make sure it looks like the picture on the box? I figured no big deal, take it to the store and they say they'll take care of it. Refurbs aren't available so they exchange for a new unit. But it isn't in store so they have to order and have it delivered to my house. No big deal. A week goes by and I don't have anything. I try to check the status online and it keeps showing pending (or something to that effect). Check with online support and they say it happens sometimes, give it a day or two. Give it another week still nothing. Head to store. Frontline CS sees what I see and doesn't know what's going on. Cue talking to manager. 15 minutes later they figure out that it was discontinued and out of stock at the time of ordering but for some reason the order went through and got stuck. They offered to exchange for something else. No thanks, I'll only take so many fuckups. The only reason I went is because I had a gift card, too many bad experiences in the past. I'll just go back to buying Netflix or Steam giftcards when someone gets me one, they spend too much time trying to sell me a phone instead of getting their shit straight.
My uncle bought a harddrive at BB as they had a great deal on a massive 512GB drive (yeah, it's been awhile :P ). He wanted to move the data from his 2 smaller drives on to the larger drive and still keep his 2 smaller drives as backup drives in the same machine. They told him it'd cost about $200 for the labor. Fortunately he mentioned it to my other uncle (his younger brother) and me before he went and did it. He watched us do the software move using an imaging software in the first 10mins, then we walked away. He asked what was up. We said, now we wait, go eat lunch, watch some TV. It'll take about an hr to transfer. "That's it?" yup. He then realized he almost got screwed because they also said they'd have the machine for about a week to do the transfer. There was a job opening for BB Geek Squad and several ppl said I should apply. I said Nope! I have better ethics than they do. I will not screw over a customer by over charging and under delivering

Considering attempting to build my own PC for the first time soon and know vastly more than I did! Wouldn't trust myself to solder or replace individual chips and such but who knows, maybe I could eventually.
Nah you’re good brah. You can do it yourself, building a computer nowadays requires little to no computer knowledge at all. You just have to know the ten or so components that make up pcs these days and buy them and assemble
if you want to start building all you need is like 500-1k bucks to do it, maybe like 200 if you just want to build a barebones af computer. if you want to get super into it even more the comptia a+ certification is pretty great.
This stuff is incredible. I used to buy into the idea that electronic boards couldn't really be repaired easily (relatively speaking). Although you did use special tools, I don't feel like it's anything crazy that a skilled technician with training couldn't handle. Right to Repair!

DIVI7NITY It's not just Apple. Ford does the same. Our window of our Ford Transit van was broken. Long story short, the car next to us had a AC gas cylinder in his car, which exploded because of the hot weather. His car was total loss and our van's two windows were shattered. Luckily no one got hurt. And instead of replacing the window, they wanted to replace the entire window sill (including the window that wasn't broken). So, they could charge 7 times more than just replacing only the broken windows.
Louis, you probably don't read all these comments, but if you do, I think you could benefit from polarized light on your microscope. You can see examples on my videos. Even if you don't use the Andonstar, I might be able to help you out and cut some polarizers to fit your system. I was noticing in particular that you get a ton of light reflection from the surface of your flux. With polarized light and a polarized lens over the microscope, you can eliminate this reflected light and look right through. Contact me if you want more info.... John

Apple's repair contract with Best Buy actually does not allow us to open or service any hardware on any Apple products in stores that are not ASP certified. The 'too dangerous' claim was probably a lame excuse from the agent as Apple doesn't really like us blaming them for our inability to fix their products.Apple has been very strict with this policy, and recently even changed our out of store repair policies. We are now only allowed to service Macbooks and iMacs at Geek Squad city; iPhone, iPods, iPads and Apple Watch all need to go to Apple stores, even when they buy Applecare from Best Buy. I am a Geek Squad agent in Texas that is not ASP certified. The number of clients we have to turn away is staggering, and the blame is firmly on Apple, not Best Buy or Geek Squad. I wish we could help these people more, but our hands are tied.
Chris Z I am a Geek Squad agent at store 447 in Tukwila, WA and we are an Apple ASP. We still cannot repair Macbooks. Apple doesn’t want us to do any work on any macbook newer than I believe 2012. Our agreement states that. We do, however, have an agreement to work on iPhones, for battery replacements, screen replacements, etc. If Geek Squad had not chosen to accept Apple’s terms when it comes to MacBooks, we would not have been able to start doing phone repairs, and thus if we did any work on any iPhone or MacBook under warranty or AppleCare (+) we would not have access to genuine Apple parts and the repair would immediately void said warranty. It’s not worth it for us to give up iPhone repairs to work on MacBooks. It does seem like the Geek Squad referred to in this video was confused on our policy when it comes to macbook repair.
Any other brand we can replace components, either if the client brings it themselves, or provided by OEM. Its usually smaller stuff like HDD or keyboard. We get people bringing keyboards / batteries / displays from Dell/ HP/ Lenovo all the time. Apple we can't even open it to do a simple hard drive swap / battery reset. I would say that is a very big difference in policy, not hardware. I can understand the portables not being repaired in store, but we could send them out to Geek Squad city for an 'authorized' repair up until about 6 -12 months ago.
This is so familiar. I had a 2011 macbook pro that seemingly had some issues booting up correctly so I brought it to Apple and they told me it had a bad HD, i asked them to verify it wasnt the ribbon so they went back behind the curtain for about 10 min, came out and told me the hard drive was bad and they need 500 for a new standard hard drive. My first reaction was "I can buy a SSD for that price and a 1TB one at that." So I took my computer back and converted the HD myself to a SSD for about 250. At first I thought i did something wrong after further diagnosis I found out that my original suspicion was correct, it ended up being a bad ribbon so I order the 15$ ribbon and it worked perfect. Just for fun I hooked up my old hard drive with the new ribbon and it booted and worked perfectly. Not only was my computer misdiagnosed but they also didnt do there job to check what I asked and then lied about it. I WONT EVER USE THE GENIUS BAR AGAIN.
It is a problem with places that also sell best buy or apple if they sell hardware. Technicians get pushed into become salesmen that lie to get people to buy the big stuff. Trick to finding a good place (I do most my stuff myself but I became friend/family tech guy and it got to point where it was like a second job I didn't get paid for) anyways best method of selection was smaller repair shops who made money off doing repairs not the parts. Then check reviews I did this but not something you have to do come to them ask about a very obvious specific problem and how they would diagnose it. This can illicit whether they "know how to do job" or they have a disk and a 5 minute training video as sole training.
This happened to me but to me the screen ribbon got lose an the screen Genius bar said it needs new logic board screen All it needed was just a simple screen ribbon unplug replug

Mmm, I was scrapping out PowerMac G5s at work last week, and tore up my hands a little bit on those goddamn heat sinks. Those machines are real head-scratchers in terms of construction. Hex, Torx, and Phillips (or is it JIS?) screws all in one machine! Hex and Phillips on the same assembly! 4 full-length card-slots, and how do they implement a modem? Little daughterboard off the motherboard, at the opposite corner to the jack-pack, wire running UNDER the motherboard and around to a little extra 4p4c Modular screwed on to a bracket so it looks like it's part of said jack-pack. Any other computer manufacturer on Earth would have slapped a modem in a card-slot and called it a day.
Lazarus Long "Think different" was their slogan... they went with that one after someone pointed out "Designed while high on cocaine" may not go will with the public... I have a collection of old (pre-OSX) Macs, and I also start muttering about "what were they thinking" and "who came up with that idea" every time I need to open one.
tin2001: Sounds about right, I've had a few of those open myself and I do find myself asking quite the same thing. In those days, though, there were whole machines you could open and not find anything exceptionally objectionable, though. The really old PowerBooks, the ones with the trackball, were actually pretty well designed in terms of how the case came apart. Oddly enough, you can get the service documents for those from Apple to this day, and even those are super hand-holdy and read like they're written for an idiot. Don't expect block diagrams, circuit drawings, or theories of operation!
Years ago, LinkSys walked me through a firmware update that destroyed my router. The next tech I spoke to told me, "Oh no, updating without stepping through consective versions blows up a component on the board with a voltage spike, it's dead!" "You can return it through the RMA program" Which you could, and it would take a month to diagnose, before they would then sell me a new one for full price. Told them to eff themselves, bought a D-link, which worked perfectly from the moment I flicked it on. Sent them a photo of it in an e-mail😂
sad very sad what so many companies do when they release updates that comepltely ruin what was once perfect, its happening to things at accelerated pace, it really is a terrible consipiracy
The bigger the company, the less they care... proven fact. Combine with "cult following" and you literally control sheeple... wait, that also sounds like... governments! LMAO

I once attempted to apply to Best Buy to do computer repair. I was rejected. Best rejection I've ever received.
MalleusSemperVictor They reject you if your I.Q. is too high i.e. 85 or above.
they where scared to hire someone that knows how to fix a computer
@Michael Richter Oh, you're too kind.
Same here. Did they take two months to send the rejection letter to you as well?

It does seem like the Geek Squad referred to in this video was confused on our policy when it comes to macbook repair.
hand out luis buisness cards to all those poor souls give them a glimer of hope
"the blame is firmly on Apple"
Apple is forcing "Best" buy to sell their products?
Any other brand we can replace components, either if the client brings it themselves, or provided by OEM. Its usually smaller stuff like HDD or keyboard. We get people bringing keyboards / batteries / displays from Dell/ HP/ Lenovo all the time. Apple we can't even open it to do a simple hard drive swap / battery reset. I would say that is a very big difference in policy, not hardware. I can understand the portables not being repaired in store, but we could send them out to Geek Squad city for an 'authorized' repair up until about 6 -12 months ago.
TheBrownSys exactly. That's why I make the decision not to buy a Mac. Shit COMPUTERS under the guise of something that is not a "computer".
I dont even use apple but subbed to you cause you are awesome.
Neither does he, it was sarcasm. He has disdain for Apple lmao, he will always repair them though! More business for him
It's really hard to find honest repairmen and awesome is a great way to describe him!
this is a channel for "not apple users"
@@oh0stv true lol
@oh0stv - And for not-apple users who are sick of their apple-using friends shilling out to Apple.
This happened to me but to me the screen ribbon got lose an the screen
Genius bar said it needs new logic board screen
All it needed was just a simple screen ribbon unplug replug
This video is far more satisfying than a "most satisfying videos" video.
i have been doing computer repair for almost 20 yrs and i'm rather pleased to see someone on youtube actually using the right tools for the right jobs i cant even count how many "repair" people on youtube dont even use flux properly
no he said thats why he goes through more tips that way with is true so rewatch the video before you sound like a bigger moron then you are
@@shawnpitman876 *Dumbass Alert* *Dumbass Alert*
Literally at 10:29 tho he roasts himself for not doing something the right way
You guys don't get it. He was criticizing himself for using those more expensive tips where a normal one would do. Does not go against Peter Reno. He is using the right tool for the right job except in a few cases (out of habit I guess) he uses a more expensive tool. Main thing is that he is doing the repair the way it should be done.
clearly people dont get the difference of right tool wrong tip and cant understand English better but its okay
Want to watch these repairs as livestreams rather than edited down portions? Check out the live channel below, where I throw all the b-takes and repair videos before they are edited, along with anything else I feel like streaming at the time. ruclips.net/channel/UC6nZlvfz4YWoBWbjiaYJA3g

Louis Rossmann the best I can do is turtle coin
Louis Rossmann, quick question, how many lawsuits apple has filed against you?
Louis Rossmann you are such an awesome person Louis! Greeting from Nova Scotia Canada! I love you're vids and the topics you discuss! Your repair work and your willingness to give us, the People; information on how to fix these devices and how hard companies make it to get things fixed reflects what a genuine person you are. I'm glad to be subscribed and love the videos! Keep them coming!
i learned that with an apple product your insurance can expire before you bought the product... :D
This repair failed.
The objective of macbook repair it to get the person to buy a new macbook so must be made as expensive and difficult as possible.
“Fitter, happier and more productive”
Speaking of which anyone no why he started to repeat this line I here it alot I his videos I have nothing against the phrase just curious.
it's a radiohead lyric from a song of the same name
@@ChadMaddikus thanks man I appreciate it 👍

@@natehatchell7146 by very good you mean brilliant
I literally threw an ssd into my pc while it was running and it worked, that's how easy it is
i didn get it... should i take out the screw or the ssd first??? thats way tooo hard!
Schweizer Should we call an ambulance?
You should take the SSD out first.
nono thanks im fine.... just some kind of beerbulance... everything is empty. My am is fine.
You need turn the vice handle against the clock to get it out.
US or UK time?
I believe those apple guys, they couldn't have repaired this lol
Supraking55 the issue is that .. they can but they refuse since i guess this is not how they are payed
A+ comment
I think the would change the full motherboard
sELenEzI They are entry level workers who might not have even gone to college, most wouldn’t be able to. Their managers probably wouldn’t let them even if they are extremely experienced in doing it. Too much of a liability.
@@sELenEzI They really can't fix this. Only thing they can do is replace basic parts. They hire basic people with basic tech skills.
Don't delay. Update software today. 🙃
And downgrade later. Sometimes much greater.
I get my update fix daily. Thanks, Arch Linux!
2:52 I like how Louis is holding the mac as if it was a claymore
I love this guy! The Bob Ross of board repair. “Happy chips”
Louis "Ross"man
I somewhat agree, but he replaces irony with sarcasm compared to Bob. That trademark of humour without the slightest hint of maliciousness was unparalleled.
And pray do tell, who is Bob Ross?
Look him up, a very inspirational canvas painter. Loved that guy.
The reason he has to replace his pencil every couple weeks is that to clean it he beats the devil out of it.
Wait, did that screw just last about 3 uses??
Definitely a counterfeit screw, not an official licensed Apple part.
A counterfeit one would last longer.
Original Apple scres are made of the finest chinesium and will self destruct by regular use.
I've never been so entertained by a guy fixing a macbook this is comedy gold
I may not be a hardware person. I may not understand any of the repairs(to any avail), but watching the solder flux melt is the most satisfiying thing ever.
The actual issue with the Macbook is that it's an Apple product.
in general thats true, but voltage regulators like this one can fail on any motherboard
What do you mean "not dangerous"!? There's some pretty sharp corners on that machine, you could get some serious paper cuts and ouchies...
Geth270 WHAT ABOUT THE OUCHIES!
Lazarus Long
"Think different" was their slogan... they went with that one after someone pointed out "Designed while high on cocaine" may not go will with the public...
Software updates break everything! This guy gets it.
Years ago, LinkSys walked me through a firmware update that destroyed my router.
The next tech I spoke to told me, "Oh no, updating without stepping through consective versions blows up a component on the board with a voltage spike, it's dead!" "You can return it through the RMA program"
Which you could, and it would take a month to diagnose, before they would then sell me a new one for full price.
Told them to eff themselves, bought a D-link, which worked perfectly from the moment I flicked it on. Sent them a photo of it in an e-mail😂
thanks noob noob
sad very sad what so many companies do when they release updates that comepltely ruin what was once perfect, its happening to things at accelerated pace, it really is a terrible consipiracy
So nice to see someone who knows exactly what they are doing. Let's make these pads great again!

It's so satisfying watching electronics like this get repaired. Saves people a lot of money, and prevents this stuff from going to the e-waste pile.
This was a fantastic video. Goes to show avg consumers that it doesn't have to be a $500 repair just because the genius doesn't know what's wrong with it.
Element7 but aren't they geniuses I think Louis is the Real Genius and the other guys are just Pretenders
So how much was Louis' repair?
600
I agree, but he's far from a 'genius' to believe that poor solder joints are caused by software.
@MrXaryon For "Blown power circuit on motherboard" Louis's website says $200-$425, given the relative simplicity of this repair I'd guess he quoted about $250.
"The board is now happy" You are the Bob Ross of computers

Sam Bristow Exactly! People for some reason don’t get this! It’s time for the Crook to go!
