    Lol it’s funny that you said “some people aren’t good at the game”. I’m not good, never been great, it’s something I play for fun and joy not to be the best - I have other things in my life that full that need. I have been a casual since TBC (was hardcore through AQ 40 in vanilla). I think there are a lot of people like me.

      @@T.R.75 I was casual in vanilla, cleared the 20 man raids only. I cleared all the hardest content from TBC up to and including Cataclysm and been casual since then. I'm damn good at healing and pretty good as a ranged dps. I suck at melee. But thats mainly because I mained healer for 20 years and my alts have almost always been ranged. The difference between 20 years of experience and virtually none is real.
      The difference between casual and hard core is not skill, it's how much time you have. The skill difference comes with that too.

    So deeper into FOMO hell. More removed content and rewards than ever, more extremely rare mounts that most players will never see over the years. And this is a fantastic thing? Are they trying to completely eliminate collectors? Do they really think that restricting the chance of getting that vanishingly rare mount to one attempt per day means collectors will now take up mythic raiding and start pushing high keys?

    My “factional pride”, if I ever had any, lived and died in Classic. Raiding and occupying Alliance settlement, killing all the quest givers and guards until Alliance PCs rallied and pushed us out, going on massive hundred man raids into Stormwind or Telldrasil to kill Alliance faction leaders. Once TBC launched and brought with it our first cross faction capital it became clear that there wasn’t going to be a “winning faction” so the long decline began. At this point I couldn’t care less about the factions and would be happy if I could just earn a title called “the Diplomat” and take my characters into any factions area and not flag PvP.

    Unfortunately for me the faction conflict pretty much died for me in BFA, the Horde literally lost everything and didn't win a single battle via the warfronts and the mission table. I will always love the Horde, they always seemed so cool to me, but its pretty much on the back burner for me. I think this would be a great time for both factions to rebuild. Every expansion we hear that the Alliance/Horde has lost so many troops and are practically depleted. BFA especially made note of this via certain Alliance cinematics. I think this would be a great time to recruit new races to both factions. Welcome the long time allies like Forest Trolls and Ogres as actual playable races and same for Alliance races that would fit.

    personally i would make all of the playable races neutral at first and you choose which faction to play as (much like evokers and pandas), the choice would of course be permanent (so they can still charge for faction changes) but i always thought it odd that the races have fixed default factions, (personally i have never liked the horde ideals put forward by the game but i have always wanted to play an orc and more recently vulpera and just haven't because my general aesthetic leans much more towards alliance values so being able to choose to play alliance would certainly get me playing those different races more often (they could implement a slightly different racial for each faction so that both factions stay "active")

    I feel like if they want to make mythic plus a little bit simpler in the sense avoiding defensive creep, I would imagine an "easy way" to do so, would be to make certain abilities change in a M+ dungeon, similar to back when we couldn't change spec or talent points in a active key (I imagine that framework still exists) Starting a key could change your abilities to have longer CDs, less duration, or lower defensive payoff (and convey this on the ability tooltip) and then from there scale the dungeons however they want to go along with the curve of avoiding the defensive creep. And this way they can alter abilities as they see fit for M+ without affecting how delves or raids feel or vice versa

    That "not everyone is good at the game" viewpoint is missing the fact that healers are players too, and when the game is balanced around all the dps having a ton of defensives and they don't use them, it puts more pressure into the healer, who now has to heal twice the amount he should because the average dps player can only do his dps rotation. Doing this as a healer might be easy at lower levels but once you start getting close to +10, which is a semi casual level people die unless you can make up for their mistakes, so healing goes from "there is nothing to heal i guess i'll just dps" to "omg why is everyone dying please someone help me".
    The balancing at higher level should be coordination and mechanical skill based, not damage, which would eliminate the need of giving so much self sustain to all the classes.

    I agree with you about the conflict narrative, Soul. It feels very stale for me. Dragonflight was a breath of fresh air away from the same old song and dance. I think back to Anduin in BFA when he said “we’re just fighting.” I’m a narrative-driven player; I need more than just conflict without purpose. We have PvP and other ways for ppl to engage in that faction war through contest of skill. I think the way forward is to have a well-developed big baddy that brings the factions together in a good way while each maintaining their separate identities to some degree. I’m glad to hear you say that!

  • @nemek2082

    I like 1 chance per day for these things. And what your missing is the reason they call for defensive pruning is because the game is being developed dmg wise ACCORDING to these many defensives being USED(they said that in previous interviews). Meaning they deal more dmg to players than needed to overpower the defensive creep so healers can play the game. Therefore, if you suck, the game is developed to deal more damage to you because it ACCOUNTS for you using defensives, so if you don't and you're bad you die. It's not a high level take or approach to the defensive or healing thing or the game ''being dictated by high lvl players''. It's literally the damage profile in the game currently. Burst damage. Which kills players instantly from 80% hp even in KSM keys if they don't press defensives or aren't high geared(Maybe KSM is considered high level ? If so then idk maybe the take is wrong). This makes it so ''bad'' players can't progress past a certain lvl because of something artificially in the game to counteract the ability creep. Burst damage isn't fun to play against as a DPS or a Healer. No one wins here. I stopped healing for that reason. It's not fun to heal people dying from 80% because of unavoidable dmg because they didn't anticipate damage coming... idk. + The idea that I have all the tools as a DPS needed to not die removes from the immersion of the MMORPG of having to rely on party members... Just makes it more of a solo game then... imo that's not a good direction...

    The thing about the faction conflict is that there's no justification for war between Alliance and Horde that wouldn't amount to one or both sides doing bad things and having us back them up.
    It's like, what have the wars irl been like? What are the usual motives? Greed, hate, pride... The whole point of Pandaria was showing that all-out war comes from bad stuff. The Sha and Garrosh were the representation of "War".
    At this point, what justification can be to raise weapons against each other when everyone is good and talks to each other? Every possibility I can think of can either be solved through diplomacy, or involves someone being the villain, like Sylvannas, and one or both sides be doing or having done bad sh&%.

    I agree with your take about the factions seeming redundant, old, and played out. I haven't liked the "forced" hatred against each other until we have to join hands, sing kumbaya, and defeat the main big bad. Perhaps little skirmishes over small areas that don't matter much would be fine as in the pvp battlegrounds, but for regular pve... it just doesn't seem to fit the story anymore.
    And you absolutely nailed it when you said, it was pointless because neither side can EVER win. You would alienate the other half of the player base. So, what can we do? I am open for suggestions.

    I think it's definitely true that moving the conversation away from defensive toolkits would just shift it to damage, where it is still a place to complain.... However I think that balancing around damage and utility is WAY more healthy for the game overall and just more fun. I think it is much more ideal for an infinitely scaling system to be about being able to do enough damage to beat the timer rather than being able to survive 1 shot mechanics, because the former feels more fair and able to balance around by simple tuning and the latter is more reliant on design of the spec. Historically this has mostly been true until Dragonflight.

      I agree with you, ever since Warbands was announced I hoped they didn't start doing stuff like this. An entire way to play the game has been destroyed by it. There is literally no point to alts any more, if they're going to limit collecting to a single attempt per account, limit acount faction gains to a cap, account currency to a cap - it's all coming to stop people from playing their alts. Which means less engagement overall, and less people actively online. It's why they're making leveling so fast too, an alt actually serves no purpose. If a one character account has the same lockouts, chances, caps etc as an account with many alts.

    I'm very happy about this loot change, the way it has worked for most of the game's lfiespan strongly encouraged degenerate, unhealthy behavior. One of the more extreme cases as the Valentine's Day mount, the big pink rocket. With 15 attempts per character per year and a drop chance of 1 in 3000, you could fill your account with max level characters and sit there doing the dungeon 60 times a day which sounds like a full time job and then some. Even if you did all that, you would still only get 900 attempts per year, so it wouldn't be that unlikely for you to do this every year for half a decade and get nothing for it whatsoever. Blizzard has a pretty terrible track record when it comes to putting things in the game that were awful and completely unfun, fueled purely by fomo, Warfronts and Torghast being to examples, but there have been many others. If this is changing and we're getting more of a focus on quality playtime rather than quantity, this is the best thing that has happened to this game in a very long time, maybe ever.

    kinda sounds like you may be looking at defensives with a narrow view. reducing defensive bloat will help everyone. the boat load of defensives in the game has cause blizzard to make all the "important" damage events very large/spikey because they know how many defensives you have (and they're adding even more with hero talents.. bleh). this makes the gameplay where you have to pre plan defensives instead of hitting them when things are getting out of hand. having more manageable sizes of damage events, rather than huge hits all the time, would benefit everyone.

    • @SoulSoBreezy
      @SoulSoBreezy  7 дней назад

      The notion of 'bloat' needs context though. Your solo player only has so many utilities on their belt. Your small group of friends and family are just cruising through a dungeon taking hits to the face and using defensives as needed. Maybe lol. Your more organized raid team will coordinate cooldowns according to boss timers.
      The conversation of defensive bloat lies mostly in keys where the team lines up and times their cooldowns with cold mathematical efficiency. specs/classes that don't fit in their plans are dusted. Mistakes that end up throwing off those cooldowns risk bricking the key. In a game mode with infinitely scaling difficulty without infinitely scaling gear, it should come as no surprise that eventually you're constantly in this state of taking extreme amounts of damage. Balance breaks down as the damage reaches levels impossible-to-manage, and that's where those players are. Your suggestion would do nothing but raise the key levels higher and then we're right back here again. Just kicking the can down the road, pushing the goalposts back etc. Meanwhile other folks down here playing in 10s lament over how out of touch those players are.
      Changing defensives for keys solves those specific problems but also affects all other parts of the game where there is less of a problem or none at all. And as of right now the team doesn't think pruning for everyone is needed in favor of what is arguably wow's smallest segment of endgame players.

    • @prkr_ae
      @prkr_ae 7 дней назад

      @@SoulSoBreezy every time i've heard defensive bloat brought up it's in regards to damage output of mobs and how it's making healing less fun. it's in the fact that there's so many defensives, so now the raids have even more 1 shot mechanics because they want you to use your defensives.
      damage sue to come in smaller chunks, where you can see things happening and react, not have them all pre planned as you mention. healers seem to prefer raid frame triage over the pass/fail of do you have the cd's for this next damage or not.
      this issue, increased amount of very high damage/one shots, is at almost all levels now due to the bloat. one person can ruin many heroic raid fights now, when that was much more rare in the past.

    It's a world of war... but it doesn't need to be a faction war. Irl even the 100 year war eventually came to an end. Walls are build but it never stopped trade or even expansions. People learn from war how precious peace is: ask the EU! As for alts, i love mine but welcome choosing which part to repeat rather than which alt to use during an expansion and rush the rest through pre-expansion catch-up system. The game is finally valuing casuals and lovers of world content vs only raiders, mythic + and pvpers. It needs to further address old content and leveling, especially after the fun of remix. I welcome all the changes coming to further secure WoW into a playable game... and soon hopefully one approachable by new players because it hasn't been friendly to them. I welcome a raid story mode and npc dungeons, just as I welcome high content not being compulsory for players with less time, skills or that particular inclinations. Toxicity still needs to be addressed and selfishness into breaking the game to suit yourself at the cost of other players. Eg in remix, bosses that despawn if all players aren't present show tanks can wait 30 seconds vs yesterday speed runner killing 2 bosses in a dungeon and leaving the mobs and rest for the 3 other players to die from as he took his tank and healer out. He will level in 2 hours! But at the bitterness of others who weren't high enough of had the class to be able to run fast enough behind. Why group? Let them solo. Or don't gate players behind doors, especially when it excludes them from loot like in SOO, Gates last boss. If Blizzard does not want to police behavior, then add mechanics that limit poor sportsmanship.

It was nothing compared to what the horde did. So again the horde was seen as the obvious bad guy.
    I would like to see the mid expancion have a story where the light crazed draenei show from wod who starts smashing in poor peon heads because they arent light focused enough. And alliance just sees temporary old allies who joins them and dosent realize they are bad before they see how Crazed Turalyon have become as he is such a light fanatic.
    Because if we think about it. The light seems to be a heavy thing for the Arathi we come across so it is a light army there. Turalyon and his light forged draenei. Velen and his people who are also light focused along with Argent crusade. Now add in Yrel and her light army coming trough the portal. We then have an amazing story which the alliance is the ultimate bad guy. Because they have realy heavily started the war and only the champions and few others understands their mistake and therefor needs help in taking down Yrel and Tyralion. An epic horde war drumming chanse to show their good side and to be the good guys who can stand proud with their heads lifted high
    This is sorely needed after Cata. Mop. Wod. Bfa. Where all of them have made horde look bad as they have been the reason for War. (Wod is obviously because we didnt stop Garrosh sooner) that again is on us in my opinion
