Don't you mean the United Kingdom? In an ideal world, where money has less importance than it does, Scotland would separate from the United Kingdom, and Quebec would also separate from Canada. Smaller and less wealthier countries have been able to become independent of Russia, the largest nation in the world. how come it is a pipe dream, or somewhat impossible, for Scotland and Quebec to become independent nations?

Automatic stills sounds blisteringly good all these years later. The Reid boys never chased fame for fame's sake and like the Velvets they inspired and influenced so many artists and still do.

I’ve been listening to Automatic a lot lately, and I must say the Reid brothers were really creative during this era. There were so many great songs on that album. The music, lyrics, and even some of Jim’s vocals are some of the best out of their whole discography. Then they went on to release honeys dead, which will always be my favorite. Long live the Mary chain

There's little risk involved, at this time, perhaps, in making music, or else, musicians are no longer willing to take chances for fear of having their careers take a nose dive when their product doesn't sell. It seems that self-important Musicians are no longer willing to sabotage their careers for the sake of creativity. It seems like there was a lot more intelligence and experimentation happening in the song-writing then, than there is today, but everywhere it seems, in this vast popular culture now, there's nostalgia and it's become trendy since the past is often more interesting than the future. But many younger people would probably disagree with me.
