Apparently the back story here is that the record company threw them a party to celebrate their US television debut, but it was scheduled the night BEFORE the appearance. So the Reid Brothers, being the Reid brothers, got so completely wasted the night before, they were still fucked up when they arrived at the taping.
@@pauloisobe David Letterman had the best house band on TV. On his original NBC, they almost never had full groups play on their show. There were all serious NY session players. And Letterman would get the best bands on his show, there's a reason the Jesus and Mary Chain played that show for their first American TV appearance. It was probably a financial decision....less royalties to pay out, but also for new bands, they often were not as good live as they were on record. When he moved to CBS and moved up to 11:30 he had bigger budget and they would often have full bands. The white pants ain't the best! but his bassplaying is spot on ,you can see how happy he is to be playing on a great Rock tune! Good on you fella
that is the problem, he is happy.
@@ZombieBathlmfao when ur ska friend still makes it to your hard rock shows
heck yeah. he makes me smile. absolutely kills it at 2:04
He distorts the bouncy bass ever so nicely
@@JoeyLevenson He'd been itchin' to put some fuzz on his licks for a loooong time
The dude on bass is the greatest bloke alive.
Oh I don't know. My mate Brian is a pretty good bloke.....
the Reid brithers ever; maybe the best family act since the Beach Boys... don't laugh... I love both bands
love them but the Gibbs are tops in this category, IMO
That bass gave them some extra swag on this one
This band was and is cool.
Yes sir
They're from Scotland ...Dave. But I guess back in 1992 most Americans didn't know the difference. Great band!
maybe their greatest single ever
snakedriver:)
100%
I love this band so fucking much.
Anton Fig on drums... AWESOME !!!!
Some heroes do wear capes after all. Dat Bass
English band? East Kilbride’s finest!
English? I’m surprised Letterman wasn’t taken out for that.....
I love the JAMC but that dude with the white pants!! 😂😂😂
He wasn't from the band, but a support musician from the TV Show. For some reason, the band's bassist wasn't there.

@@busterkeaton1001 Beyond anything else, no matter how much his dress sense clashed with the rest of the band, he played brilliantly
The man in the white pants is a part of Dave Letterman’s house band. Not The Jesus and Mary Chain. Was everyone just being sarcastic? 😄
peak nineties all downhill from here
ace version
The arrangement wasn't really the issue... They'd been up all night drinking and doing drugs.
nice guy bassist
Ben looks like J Mascis in this
Bass from butlins

An English band?
Scottish. From my hometown East Kilbride.
@@rm009z0858 No, Letterman called them an English band, hence my question.

@@danielmoran9902 I'm a bit confused. Scotland is not England or in England. It is a separate country. . Anyway, we both agree Letterman got it wrong.

Scottish 🤕
So good!
"English"
Calling them English on purpose is just lame.
Why do you think it's on purpose? Americans confuse British with English and aren't totally sure what the UK actually is
In my life I have never laughed at a letterman joke
LOL!

That's defo 'not the Mary Chain bassist roflmao! The most inappropriate live session player ever?
Where did yous get the bass player from ...not one of your best songs
