What do you think about owning an extra camera, just for everyday usage?

    • @WidePhotographs
      @WidePhotographs 3 месяца назад

Yes, you need a everyday camera when you own a camera with similar size specs of a Nikon z8 with 28-75mm lens attached.

My experience: Creativity is not linear. Keeping my x100 on me 100% of the time led to me being distracted during my daily life, with no clear boundaries between photography and whatever else I was doing. The result was poor performance and a bunch of shitty photographs. Also, I was less inclined to take my main camera out to work on projects. In the end, I decided to retire the x100, relegating it to a family/travel cam. Now, I make sure to set aside time to focus on photography. When doing so, I always use my main camera.

The same day i started to use only one camera instead of using xh2s hanheld + xt4 in gimbal, my workflow got better, i got used to solve some situations with that camera and everything started to go better (until 5.0 came up hahaha)

Hobbyist... Running X-T3, waiting for X-E5... (had X-E4 but sold it for more than I bought it... just because my X-T3 has a broken back wheel) Using 23 f1.4 almost all the time. Sometimes 70-300 if I know I'll do some portrait or want to capture moments. I am hesitating between X-100vi + GFX 50Sii with 55 f1.7 or much cheaper... go X-E5 (if it comes out in 2025)... and add Viltrox 75 f1.2... I have other lens, but I rarely use them (Viltrox 56 f1.4, 16-80, Viltrox 13 f1.4 that I take when doing landscape). I wish Fuji gave more visibility on their calendar... I miss IBIS SO MUCH...

I love having a extra camera for edc, especially if it’s actually something pocketable like the Sony rx100 or Fuji x70. I don’t exactly need my edc camera to inspire me just something compact enough to take literally anywhere.

I have both an X-T5 and an X100V. Because I like to shoot a lot of wildlife, I have a big lens attached to my X-T5 quite often-especially while hiking. So, I carry along the X100 as well so I can quickly take photos of landscape and people without having to switch out my 100-400mm. If you want to shoot multiple focal lengths like this, it is hugely beneficial to have a spare camera.

  • @nerucheung

You exactly described my experience owning the X100VI.
I also thought by getting the X100VI would get me out to shoot more and take more pictures because of the "smaller" form factor but it ended up in my sling bag all the time, just like when I had the X-T3 with a 23mm. I recently got myself a Ricoh GR and this was the camera I should have gotten in the first place for my everyday carry 😅

I'm an enthusiast. I have an X-H2. If I want something smaller or simpler, I put one of my f2 lenses on it and only carry that. It's small and compact enough for me. Having a 2nd body can be fun, and I had one for a year as an experiment, but I am happy that I sold it. I don't another for inspiration or anything else.

I'm a GFX100S Ii and GFX 50s Ii user professionally so yes I needed a small camera ...XT5 was it because it's a great back up camera too. If you shoot professionally you need 2 bodies minimum.

If you have a GFX I agree. If you have an X-T5 and "need" something smaller, as I often hear and see, this I don't understand.

The X100F was a glorious camera, I am sure the X100V and X100VI are awesome too, though I don't have either. But I do have an "everyday" camera but not because it's more fun but because a Ricoh GR iii fits in my pocket and it's great on a work day, when I walk several miles to work with a fairly heavy backpack full of stuff already and don't want to carry my XT-4 and lens with me. I love my XT-4, it's what I shoot with on holidays or days off, but it's not practical in my day-to-day life.

  • @andrewcrossley2448

Fair points. My main gear is pro Canon 5DSLR, L zooms and primes, so my X100VI weighs far less than even one zoom lens.
On a recent trip with a few internal flight there was a strict 5kg carry on limit and bag size limit. So the DSLR was far too heavy.
An SLR style camera also draws attention to the user, especially in areas where foreigners are more noticeable. I found my black X100VI readily accepted by all parties and people were very happy to have their photos taken. Security guards and police didn’t seem interested either. I’m not sure an XT5 and a couple of lenses would be as accepted.
For me it’s a nice change and I’m able to optimise its use case instead of my DSLR.
However, a viable alternative would be my Canon M5, 22mm f2, the superb 32mm f1.4 and possibly the 55 -200mm mini telephoto zoom if I know I need long reach. In that case maybe I’ll leave the Fuji at home.
The Fuji does have some key advantages for me: leaf shutter flash sync, Good IBIS, ND, 6k that can downsample, a very good lens and it’s compact.
On performance the M5 and 32mm 1.4 is sharper, faster and possibly easier to use but it’s not weather sealed nor has IBIS for stills. It does for video but it’s not 4K.
I’ve just bought my daughter an Olympus TG7 and some extra bits of kit as she’s off on a world tour for a year that includes places like India, Nepal, the Far East, Aus, NZ, and most of South America. Her use case is simple, to cope with: snow, rain, humidity, under water, macro. Add on the good little tele converter and ring light and it’s a great little system. Hers is red so she doesn’t lose it but in black it’s a more discrete travel camera. It also has lots of clever features for adventure like GPS and a compass I believe.

To me is not all about having smaller cameras or less gear if that was the case I'd go for a rico GR, while that is definitely good for an "everyday" setup cause it makes you more likely to actually take the camera with you, for me a big part of having a separate camera is actually the mentality and the headspace your regular camera puts you in, if you work as a photographer and are always using your big camera like an XT-5 or full-frame cameras to get your job done it can be cumbersome to then take that same camera out just for fun, it's akin to a uniform; at the end of the day a uniform is just clothes, you could easily wear them anywhere you go and not have to buy more clothes than what you already have...yet we don't do that, soon as we are out of school or work we take those clothes off and get into different ones, not even more comfortable ones just...different, why? because wearing the uniform makes us feel like we're still at work/school so we don't ever use it unless we have to, why is that mentality for cameras any different? So (at least for me) it has far more to do with how much you enjoy using the camera for FUN and not work than size, I would take a nikon zf as an every day camera just cause I enjoy the way it looks/works but it is actually bigger and heavier than any of the cameras I have right now.

Great point of view. I find I went to a "everyday camera" becuase I wanted something smaller and on me all the time. But rightly said "enjoy the gear that you have a use it".

I have a Nikon Coolpix A for my “Everyday” camera. This is specifically for when I can’t take a sling bag or full size camera with me. I otherwise take my X-T5 foot almost any other time. My X-T5 is small enough for everything else. My X-S20 is small enough if I need something inverter but it is mostly my back up body and hybrid creation camera that might turn into a trade in for another lens or two in the long run because my Dji Pocket 3 does more than good enough for most projects I do right now. I’m constantly evaluating my gear and what I do and don’t use if something sits in my bag for months on end without use it’s time to sell or trade for something I will use. The X 100VI is not small enough for a pants pocket and in my mind that’s the size an “everyday” camera needs to be if an X-T5 is too big because my X-T5 fits perfectly well in my smallest sling bag with a 23mm F/2 or 27mm f/2.8.

  • @rasidsaranovic7921
    @rasidsaranovic7921 3 месяца назад

Me personally, I am about to sell my X-T4 for X100VI because I simply cannot afford all the gear I need and I don't want to deal with stress that comes with working with people on weddings or events. It might be just me but here where I live you don't get paid much per wedding unless you are a big name.
So selling my X-T4 for something smaller, that has already built in ND and flash with additional support for tele or wide conversion lens makes sense.
I won't deal with absurdity of professional work and I can always rely on it's quality.
23mm on Fuji is one of my favorite focal lengths so it's a plus too.
    Insightful video though. 🙂

I have an X-T5, and even if the body of the X100VI is not much smaller, even the smallest of my lenses adds weight and bulk and makes me carry the X-T5 in a bag. So an X100VI came in handy. The issue with the X100VI is just availability: I talked to a Swiss camera shop (official Fujifilm dealer) and they have received one (1) in February and since then none (0). They are quite frustrated and also do not get any updates from Fujifilm.

You are right in practice Fuji x100 series is marginally smaller than the xt series, I've had both. There are several small lenses available. I see many people call cameras like the x100 pocketable when they are not in any standard pant pocket, at least not comfortably. If you are wearing a jacket with large pockets it's better but I'm not always wearing a jacket. If you are carrying your camera in a bag, the size is not nearly as important and many cameras like the xt's are already pretty small and light. I have a small and cheap film camera I sometimes carry if I want something really small and it's actually pocketable. No need to spend $2,000 on such a powerful second camera. If you have the money go ahead but it's not something anyone NEEDS.

  • @-grey
    @-grey 3 месяца назад

I had the X-T2 and the X70 simultaneously. One for quality one for pocketability. I stopped bringing the X-T2 anywhere because it was heavy and cumbersome despite not being huge. I got some of my favourite images with the X70, but due to the horrific IQ of the lens and sensor combination, I got rid of both and bought a Ricoh GRIII.
I have been shooting with the GR for a few years, and now I'm looking at full frame cameras like the Canon R6II, Nikon Z6II, or a7CR, because they aren't much different in bulk to the Fujifilm line anymore. Especially since I'm a compact prime shooter. I can't think of a good reason to spend the money yet though. I'm still worried I'll leave it at home and take the GR instead. 😂

Theres not many cameras like that.

I don't know if there is such a thing as an everyday camera anymore , as far as normal cameras anyway.
I used to think that , but a dedicaed camera no matter how small it is , it's still an extra item to carrry.
Nowdays , phones are so good thay are practiclly all the everyday camera you'd ever need.
Having small fun to use camera is alway a treat , I own a Z9 and S5 II for main purpeses , and ZF for travel and ligher setup or backup.
But I don't see myself buying a GR series or X100 series to carry everywhere with me , it's not very practical.
For fun? sure when the X100 becomes more available and less markups.

I had a X100VI and returned it. My Leica Q3 is much faster for autofocus. I also weighed the X100VI after adding a lens hood, thumb grip, and extra grip. It actually weighed more than a Xt5 with a small 35mm f2 prime or 27mm f2.8. At the end of the day as much as I loved my X100V when I got the X100VI its not the same. The hype created on the X100Vi was not worth the purchase. The autofocus was not faster, same lame battery, and made in China ( yes folks it makes a difference) . At the end of the day the camera was rushed out to meet the demand. Anyone who disagrees obviously don't understand marketing. Cheers.
