I watched my 4k of Nightmare Maker yesterday evening.
I have no hesitation saying that the 4k release of Nightmares in a Damaged Brain from Severin is still easily the worst looking 4k I have watched and it's not even close.
As a Video Nasty lover and completist I had to buy this 4k and thankfully I thought Nightmare Maker was a huge improvement and overall looked miles better, certainly not a demo disc but a good solid 4k, I wasn't that impressed as far as 4k goes but I wasn't disappointed either.
I think this is about as good as Nightmare Maker can look and a few of the daylight outoor scenes look nice with some good HDR, not sure why there is no Dolby Vision but it's not a deal breaker.
I have no interest in extra features and hardly ever watch any so I won't comment on them other than Nightmare Maker seems packed with extras.
That slipcover is a very tight fit over the case.
I had not seen Nightmare Maker in many years (maybe even decades) and remembered very little about it and having watched it again I now know why I had no real memory of it as it's a fairly average film in my opinion.
The fantastic, attention grabbing opening car crash scene is the best part of the film, the next hour is more of a quirky character driven psychological thriller before a slasher styled last twenty minutes.
The first hour is a bit dull and I was left wondering where the horror film I bought was.
Bo Svensen and Susan Tyrell are both great in their roles and at least kept the film watchable, I also felt the direction was a bit flat and it's no surprise director William Asher had a background in TV.
Not a bad film at all but I wouldn't quite go as far as to say it was great.
I think 4k is following exactly the same pattern as DVD and Blu-ray, first the major studios release some of their big back catalogue titles and newer films to help support and grow the format before the smaller boutique labels dip their toes into the water with some heavy hitting cult items (just look at how many Argento, Fulci and Video Nasties are already out on 4k) in limited editions that the same core group of buyers upgrade again (me included!), I honestly think nothing is off the table as far as 4k is concerned (there is even vintage hardcore porn on 4k in the US) and we will continue to see the same titles rereleased as long as suitable film elements still exist... and in the case of Nightmares in a Damaged Brain that didn't even stop a 4k.
Expect to see lots of MGM owned titles released on 4k since they seem very easy to deal with, will perform new 4k scans and will license out any of their films for next to nothing except the Rocky and James Bond franchises which are still off the table.

I used to have that on VHS. Not seen it for at least 25 years and can't remember much, only the beginning.
Just watching it now mate, having a good time with it, the 4k is REALLY nice 👌👌😁😁 it's not that graffic but it's a very enjoyable watch 🤩🤩👍👍

Just picked up a copy from my local HMV. Picked up The fugitive and Rambo First Blood part 2 while I was there (2 for 30). I've never seen this. The chap in the store said lots of people have been asking for it but they only got a couple of copies in.

The American release is only 2 discs aswell so looks like we are getting the full release.
£20 is amazing for a Severiin release, especially 4K.

@@MondoChelloveckMovies Just Code Red.I imported it in 2018. Severin seem to be re-releaing the Code Red back catalogue since the death of Bill Olsen.
Oh wow didn't know Bill Olsen had died Paul 😔 what a shame, so maybe his releases might see a wider audience, as everyone knows Bill didn't like to send outside the U.S

I was tempted to get this, but when i saw this in hmv the runtime is 93minutes on the back but the code red bluray i have has 96 minutes on the back, so ill stick to my code red Blu-ray 💿😁🍿
I know there are a few different run times for it mate 🤔 I was going to get that Code Red one but settled for the 4k when it popped up unexpectedly 😁😁 bet the blu ray still is a great release 😁😁👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies I'm surprised the new 4k wasn't as long, so I'm guessing it may not be uncut cause the 4k is shorter, and I do. Like to get the most uncut version as I possibly can and yes the code red release is lovely, an yo be fair the new 4k is a very nice release, I actually really like the new commissioned artwork, really draws you in, especially that slip 💿😊

Not a great film. Never understand why it was banned. Very tame. Very slow
I've never been particularly interested in seeing BBNM, truth be told. The film just fails to appeal to me for some reason.🤔
Might have been because the cover was bloodsoaked maybe Paul 🤔 who knows what they thought about half of the content that seems not nasty at all.... shows that they didn't really have a clue Paul 😵💫😁👍
