Hi, me and my dad have a huge tree that fell in our woods. It’s touching the ground on one end and it’s it elevated about 4 feet on the other end. It’s being supported by two large branches. How do we get it on the ground without it rolling/landing on us. We don’t have much experience but we used two live on a 60 acres farm, but due to complications we had to move. We still own the farm thought. Anyway, the tree is pretty big and we’d like to figure it out ourselves.
P.S. Can you put a bigger bar on a Stihl ms 311?

Hi Cody! Long time fan and avid tool junkie. I want to give you a recommendation for the best locking pliers known to man . . . . AND they are made in the USA. Eagle Grip made by Malco Company. I noticed the Knipex you used in the video and I had that same pair but these Malco pliers knock the socks off the Knipex ones!! Anyway, hope you heal up well and God bless!
Hi Cody im a 36+ years machinist, when your using the grinder weather it’s grinding wheels or the scotchbright you’ll want to stand in front and use it below centerline, not a good idea to spin the grinder around backwards because if it catches it will launch it directly at you, used the correct way and it will launch it down at your feet.

In my opinion it's not if it happens it's when it happens no different then riding a bike it's not if your gonna wreck it's when
There are lots of things you can do to make a grinder more safe to use , like don’t let the wheels get too small, hold your work at a 30deg angle to keep it from kicking it out. Do not use the side of a grinding stone. Dress your wheel when it needs it. Don’t wear loose fitting clothing around any grinder.there is also alot of information online about grinder safety.

Cody, as someone that’s been dealing with poor internet etc. I’d recommend running a cat-6 cable out to the shop, either overhead or ultimately conduit, and setting up a mesh network. If you use a booster, it’s going to cut your speeds likely in half just allocating a portion of bandwidth to the booster. Think of that as a highway with a lane now allocated to just the booster traffic. I’ve tried it all and finally went with a Cisco POE switch and Synology NAS and Synology routers, bundle from BH Photo RT2600AC and MR2200AC for the extension mesh. Placed correctly, it may give you good Wi-Fi between house and shop without dropping. Cisco switch can run POE cameras etc. CBS220-8P-E-2G, which is gigabit speeds. GodSpeed on the recovery and listen to that body of yours, your temple, its the only one we get!

I'd second that opinion, run CAT 6 between the buildings and change your network to mesh devices for hassle free connectivity. I run a similar setup with CAT 6 and power in armoured cables to my remote shop, with a switch (for multiple cabled devices) plus a mesh (Netgear Orbi) access point for the wireless devices.

I’ve been using a grinder with wire wheels for about five years daily at work. I’ve definitely had a few pin vises thrown behind me (luckily) and launched into the wall and 150°C oven door. I wear a heavy flame retardant lab coat and 220° rated gloves, but the moment a sharp tool first flew at me was the day I added a face shield. Be safe, young Wranglestars ⭐️
I had friend who had a very nice elaborate shop where I used to help him and he helped me with my cars. The only thing I ever found inconvenient was his grinder on the bench. When I finally had my own shop and got a grinder, I never considered anything but a pedestal. Wishing you continued success in your recovery.

IT Engineer / Security Engineer here - look into ubiquiti Building to Building (can pole mount) or look at a cheaper solution if you don’t want to go all out and get a pair of NanoBeam ACs.
Very easy to setup and you’ll have excellent service from your house to your shop. If you need extra coverage within the shop (depending on how large / obstacles) then you can also deploy a few of their APs for a meshed Wifi setup.
If you really want you could have Wifi / internet coverage of your entire property. It just costs money. 😁
We’ve used these all over a ski resort to connect the lift shacks that are multiple football fields apart and they get excellent connectivity and handle the extreme weather at 12k elevation year round. (Blizzards and everything in between - 150mph gusts at the peak.)

That's WAY overkill. I'd just run an exterior grade, UV protected CAT-6 or CAT-7 cable from the house to the shop (in underground conduit, ideally, but it can be strung up or buried raw). In the shop, I'd put a single UniFI Pro Access point which would easily cover the open space there. Simple, fast, cheap and much more dependable than an outdoor building to building beam bridge, especially in inclement weather.
@@bdwilcox I mean he has an excavator so sure, but for people who don’t the above option is great and very convenient.
I never said my solution was the “cheapest” option out there, but then again I enjoy technology and money doesn’t matter vs something I find interesting. 🤷♂️
Also my solution is more than reliable…I’ve already implemented it in a enterprise environment in very extreme conditions that his property would never meet nor exceed.
Multiple ways to skin a cat, pick your method and go for it.
@@bdwilcox also CAT5e is more than good enough…and it comes in shielded variant - if you’re cutting corners might as well skimp on the cabling too. It’s rated for 1000mbps.
CAT6/7 is complete overkill for a “video streaming” use case. 🤷♂️

I relate to your frustration Cody.
One of the hardest times I ever had was after having heart surgery. The doctors told me no lifting anything over ten pounds for more than a month... Take a look around your shop and see what you could accomplish. It sucked! Take heart, It will pass. I Hope you can use the time to enjoy the family and get closer to God. Pedestal is the way to go. I've moved it as I've rearranged the shop a few times. Cool sanding discs. Wonder how they hold up compared to wire wheel.
You have been given solid advice from many folks here, that fits in with some scary mistakes I have made. I'm very chary of wire wheels, because even though my Dad had one, he never used it and said it would blind you! He'd pulled wire out of blokes' eyes back in the day. Vice Grip Garage calls it "The ole bench mounted cheek poker 9000" and he's probably right.

Cody I have done industrial buffing for over 20 years. With those scotch brute wheels you need to run in only one orientation or it will put crosshatching on the piece that looks bad. And as the machinist sa you don’t want to turn it around, it can end badly. I ran a 1hp Baldor with 14 inch wheels
Like de ja vu all over again…. We had 6’ and a 12’ grinders both on heavy duty stands. They could move a bit in the shop for different size materials. God bless - good healing. Little more frustrating than our body not healing on our schedule.

I’ve had a brillo pad that I use in my drill press for years. Works fantastic.
Our tool sharpening grinder is set up with ON/OFF on a foot pedal. Really glad I did that. Even better on the big grinder where you might have something in your hands too heavy to throw the switch.

Don't flip the grinder around you don't want the fibers shooting at your eye. You want then to shoot at the floor. We don't want to see you with a glass eye a peg leg and your hair piece.

In regards to the internet, I would run an Ethernet line from your home router to the shop. Put a switch in the shop and a WiFi access point. Then you could have WiFi and wired. If you don't want to run a wire to the shop, a directional antenna to the shop or a directional antenna repeater would work. You'll want an AP in the shop because wifi doesn't go through metal.
I'm the IT Admin for a small business and do this kind of stuff a lot. It can be easy to setup once you have a network design.
I’ve been looking for some kind of electronic to slow my grinder down. I use a wire wheel on mine and it’s just way to fast. Get well soon Cody!

Hey Cody, ask your doc if you should have your pins removed. I had mine removed a year after they pinned my hip in 73. I don't know if it made any difference when I had the hip replaced 10 years later. The way the pins were inserted would have had them working on my pelvis before my hip was replaced in 1983. The hip had warn away and I was an inch and a quarter short on that side. FYI.
You may luck out and not need a replacement in 10 years like me.
By the way, I thought about you guys as I drove through the Redwoods behind Crescent City 4 days ago.(Howlin' Hill Drive) It had been 30 or 40 years since I had been through there and I had forgotten how absolutely beautiful it was.(:>)
My 92 crushed femur & Hip bolts were supposed to be a 10yr replacement too.
Still got them in.
No problems... they tell me the newer stuff even longer lasting.
My Wife had a screw removed.
Screws are one size for tooling. Some bodies are smaller and some areas on same body have less... ehem "Muscle"..
My Thigh has extra... stuff.
@@chriskelly3678 I've had to have two revisions on my right hip. 1996 & 2016 where they replaced the plastic socket. I had the left one done in 2006. I've had no trouble with any of them except needing the plastic replaced every 10 to 15 years. But you're right about the newer hips Chris, they have made big advances in 40 years since I had my first operation. Funny thing about it was I broke it racing motocross on a 400 Radial Maico.........Bikes do that, just ask Cody!!!(;>)

At 4:43 you see something go pas the camera from top to bottom. Was that part of the disc? Does it break up a bunch or do they hold up well at the speed?
I think he had the disc hit a sharp edge and it cut a little. Which i think is why he mentioned he might change the direction. But yeah that was a piece of the disc. Scotch brite can tear up easily if you dont use it right.

It was one of the flaps from the flap wheel. These wheels are meant for low rpm and not much pressure.
@@bicylindrico and if he is used to the cotton wheels he is probably pressing way too hard
Hey Cody just wanted to say here about the difference with how the motor spins on that red bench grinder I do Remember you had that MDF sharpening system and you spun that motor around so it felt better to you when you were sharpening so I don’t think it has anything to do with buffing vs sharpening
I had an idea you could do while you recover.
On days you aren’t able to do videos you should re-post one of your old videos and maybe do some commentary on what you’ve learned since the recording of that. Just my thoughts. Thank you for the videos you do make.

I use a microwave bridge that gets me internet from the house, and it has a range of up to 2 miles according to the company. In my case, it only has to go about 100', but it still should be able to go any reasonable distance.
Take 'er easy, Cody. Resting and healing is hard work. I've just been through some heart issues and I don't rest well either, so I'm talking to myself as well.

I grew up with bench grinders exclusively on pedestals, didn’t know people people even really put them on benches. Love the baldor
I use a device called EZ Bridge to send internet from my house about 400 ft through dense forest to my shop. Speeds at the house are 70 Mbps and at my shop are 60 Mbps.
I currently just built my own work bench from weathered lengths of wood I use for my shed concrete base form wich is 6inch thick (i used paving slabs then covered in hand mixed concrete) a old solid pine dinner table with a 2 inch top a new small pallet I found in a pile of rubbish (to make sides for the top so nothing fall off for my Rc projects including a 4 inch metal vice i got on sale and a hand drill pillar clamp and a mac alistar grinder I got on sale plus two metal cutting discs at £2 each the grinder and pillar hand drill clamp give me the "FIZZ" so all in all I'm less than £150 including some taps and drill bits I follow u on Facebook ill post a pic on ur latest post and great to see ur doing well mate 👍

We use them for everything. We order sqaure pads and cut them round to fit the grinder but they where quick and make a mess so deff do not use it the other way. All that dust and flakes will shoot you in the face

Welcome to the 50 Club, Cody. Once you turn 50, you start to receive various Lifetime Achievement Awards, of which there are many. Knee surgery, shoulder surgery, hip surgery, degraded eyesight, hearing loss, sleep dysfunction, ED, arthritis, etc. And as an added bonus, when you first receive one of them, your body protests and atrophies so that recovery takes longer until you finally realize it is a painfully drawn out process of 2 steps backward, 1 step forward. The whole process is especially taxing on a Professional Homeowner because........you know......all those things you do that you get away with while younger, but are just looking for the day to "remind" you that you shouldn't have. You can add Professional Rehabilitator to your resume.
