I have watched several tutorials at least 25 and your farm is the nicest clean and organised and you folks are like the next store girl nice and simple ...thank you so much 🇨🇦
Thank you, Jeffery! Just finished editing another. Hopefully it’ll upload by morning. We have some nice weather coming again, so I’m looking forward to this weekend. Hope you have a good one too!
Hi Devon! I've seen other youtubers use a cement mixer to mix up soil and such. Maybe that might help with mixing up the growing medium when you have a lot of mixing to do. Yes construction wood is very expensive everywhere. Question for Kati, which items do you multi-seed in the Oasis? I know you do multi-seeds for bok choi. I'll be starting more seeds here again soon. Thanks for all you tips and insights from the farm. 😊🤩
Mixing the perlite/vermiculite, would a paint stirrer on a drill help? You might be able to go into a taller mix bucket with that. I love your positive vids!
Hi. Im from the Philippines. I love watching your videos. I love how you grow hydrophonics but Im interested on your planting medium for the tomatoe. May i know what are they. I'll be glad if you could have time to answer me. Thanks.
Incredible..! I love your system... I have been working on an experimental greenhouse project for the last few years...something always comes up to prevent me from getting it done... I will be doing aeroponics, which is similar to the hydroponics, and I want to be able to grow year round... It's quite the experiment; we live at an altitude of about 5100ft, it's a very dry climate in the spring and summer, and very cold in the winter (our first winter here, 9 winters ago, it got down to -30 below zero Fahrenheit for almost a week)... We got snowed-in this year, and still have about 20 inches of snow left, but as soon as I can get the greenhouse frame dug out I am going to start putting things together... Your videos have enspired me and have got me very excited to get started... I was going to ask about the ratio of perlite/vermiculite after seeing the video of your mom getting the peppers ready for the high-tower, but you covered it in this video...and, although I knew about the cross-pollination of the peppers it wouldn't have occurred to me to separate them until you mentioned it...thanks... Thanks for the videos...
Thank you for supporting us. Doug is fascinated with aeroponics. We have seen it on some of our greenhouse tours and it is really cool. I know it's hard to get it done but it sure is nice when the hard work is behind you, and you can enjoy the greenhouse and fresh produce. Keep us updated! Stay warm!!!
Great video devon..and with the way you do them there very relaxing..thanks...want me to saw you out a bunch of 2x4s?? I can,t wait to see the hoophouse all setup and full of green and red.
Thank you that’s what I’m going for. I don’t like really long clips of the same shot, but I also think jump cutting scenes all of the time is too crazy. That’s awesome you cut your own wood. Dad is pretty excited to get his mill running. I always though raised beds would be cool.
I,am using raised beds because i have a bad leg and very bad back and getting down on my knees hurts and i have doctors orders not to do it.i figure raised beds will be much better for me.i plan on having a bunch of then outside and some in my hoophouse.
I cant believe you guys, ladies, don't have way more viewers/subscribers! I love your down to earth way of presenting each video and the content is great. You are a great, very beautiful, presenter and I have really learned a lot about hydroponics and been inspired to someday give it a go, obviously not on the level that you are doing but for my small at home garden. Thank you for the inspiration and the lovely kick in the pants to want to try something new. Keep up the good work and I will be around for a long time!
Thank you very much, Don! That’s great to hear you are going to try it out. It’s nice to have homegrown and fresh food, and the hydroponic lettuce will last two or so weeks in the fridge. I’m working on a little system at my house as well. Hoping to finish it up over the weekend.
to avoid the ant from reaching the trays keep the trays in a large water basin of about a few mm deep. that way the ants will not cross over to the trays.
Looking real good. At 5:48 "the wood is very expensive". I see that your greenhouse hoops are heavy duty, I was wondering why you don't hang your troughs/shelves from the ceiling ?
How do you water (add nutrients) to the grow bags? is it like the bato buckets, so much water time and then some off time or do you hand water them several times a day?
Hi. Just found your channel. Where did you buy the greenhouse? Do you prefer the roll “down” sides vs roll “up”? Wish I could learn from someone on location. Looks like a real nice set up. Thanks
We bought the greenhouse from CropKing. we did lots of research and found the drop-down sides were better for plants. We will try and help you if we can if you have more questions.
That is a really well set up high tunnel that your family operation has there Devon. I would probably reserve one small corner for a bed and a small gas stove and move in there thru the growing season! What is the story on those grow bags that you use? Is there an available source? Happy Gardening! -Bob,,,
Thank you very much. My youngest son likes to take naps in the high tunnel. He’s got a big blanket and pillow we keep in the head house for him. The grow bags are from Hydro Crunch and are the 3 gallon size. I’ve seen them on Amazon. -Devon

Just the way the soil nourishes the plants and help them to flourish, the same soil helps us to lead a healthy lifestyle. Do you know how??? Very simple. All you need is to allow your feet and soles direct contact with Mother Nature. In other words, go barefoot in your garden ALWAYS. Don't wear any form of footwear. Our feet are created to be bare and that's why there are a number of sensors/ nerve endings under our feet. When we walk on sand gravel and stones, our entire body gets a stimulation through these sensors. Also when we walk barefoot it allows your body to connect with the earth and absorb free Electrons from the earth's surface. Go barefoot always for good health and happy feet !!!
I have placed my grow bags in a gutter. The gutter is lined with a tarp in order not to lose nutrients and water. The rims of the gutter are just bricks I had in stock. No circulation of water and nutrients, only visual control of overwatering. I fill my bags with a mix of compost and soil but that is not the topic of your question. I am very well aware that most hydroponic setups are based on recirculating. Not in the vid, it looks like the grow bags lose water and nutrients to the dirt below the fabric.
Are these tomatoes and peppers also grown hydroponically in the grow bags? Just curious if perlite and vermiculite is enough as a growing medium. Thanks.
Yes they are, and the medium works very well as long as the plants are getting nutrients. I will show this in the upcoming video, but Katy puts a thin layer of potting soil on top of the medium to help keep moisture in when it’s really hot.
We are watering twice a day while we are working on the emitters. Once we have those running with the timer, I’ll make sure to say in a video. Not sure the exact time yet.
Devon I have a question..what count do you use on the oasis cubes?? I found a company that sells them a few at a time or by the case and they have a whole bunch of diffrent sizes.
I wish they were in, but not yet. Onions and peas are planted, but I forgot to cut up the seed potatoes to let them dry a bit. We got another heavy rain so once the garden dries they will be in the ground.

How do you harden off large quantities of the more tender plants like tomatoes?
How do you feed the plants in the vermiculite? I've always grown in Dutch buckets. I'm very unfamiliar with growing in vermiculite
we just use the vermiculite as a layer to help hold a little more moisture.
Do you have a link to the manufacturer of the strawberry buckets / bins? I haven't been able to find them. Did you say Crab King?

Hi, for the grow bags , how does the nutrients get recycled ? Thx much
We do not recycle the nutrients for the grow bags. We time the emitters to feed just enough nutrients so there isn’t much wasted.
I have placed my grow bags in a gutter. The gutter is lined with a tarp in order not to lose nutrients and water. The rims of the gutter are just bricks I had in stock. Would you suggest these over the mesh cloth bags?
Yes. We have used both and great advantage to the growing bags is they are very inexpensive and work great.
what size oasis cubes do you use. they look like they fit crop kings square holes perfectly
They are the 256 multi dibble oasis. They are much easier to place in the hole than rockwool.
Do you plant two pepper plants in each grow bag?
Do you top the pepper plants to make them bushier?
Yes two peppers in each bag and we may try topping this year.

can you go head lettuce starts hydroly then go in bag or bucket
sure, I wouldn't see why not. head lettuce really needs light to for that head so that's the hardest part
What is the advantage to mix vermiculite 33.3% and perlite at 66.6% instead of just straight perlite?
The vermiculite helps retain moisture. We've tried it both ways and had better results adding in vermiculite.
