Hi. I just found your channel from your root cellar video and I’ve watched a few videos. I like it so far. I watch A LOT of farming/homestead channels on YT. A couple tips for channel growth: 1. Change your channel name to match your farm’s name: Waardenburg Family Farm. It helps in the algorithm. 2. Don’t stop making videos. Put out 1 per week. 3. Be consistent. (Ex. Every Friday a new video) 4. Show your success AND failures in gardening/animal husbandry etc. 5. Use keywords in tags to help the algorithm. Good luck on your YT journey! ✌️
We don't have a high tunnel. I would love one, but a luxury dream. I would like to see more on how you irrigate it, water collection, etc. I am not sure I could add additional time to ventilate as you mentioned. Maybe you can elaborate on it more in a future video in the summer.
We'll probably do another video once we have the ventilation fully functioning. It worked ok for this past year, but it will be a big timesaver when things happen automatically.

There are definitely times when it is overwhelming. Every year we learn more and try to make things more efficient and easier to maintain. We do have several friends who volunteer from time to time and our daughter also helps at times when needed. Thanks for the kind words. 😊

The high tunnel is actually made by Beilers Greenhouse in Lancaster Pa 96 x 30 Beigr3096 kit cost 7573 back in 2020. It has the peaked truss and the trusses are oversized because of the wind here. This brand cost a little less than Rimol and it is made locally. Hope this helps.
Hi Rebecca. We bought it from a local agricultrual supply store. It's a Rimol High Tunnel. I'm not sure if they can be purchased online or not. We are very happy with it.
I am experimenting with wood chips and plastic. So far, I hate the wood chips. They get everywhere, pull moisture from the ground if not wet but then gets moldy, attract bugs that I don't want in the garden, and I have to measure acidic levels (maple seems best, but who chips maple wood on a garden when you can make furniture, firewood, etc. Cost/benefit considerations). I also don't get the beneficial worms and insects I want. They would blow around in harsh winds. And, they wood get in my sandals. Just can't think of a positive. Last year I tried plastic and Voila! Awesome potatoes and beans and other vegetables, and tons of worms and bugs when when we pulled it up for over winter. My only weeding was at the plant site between rows (I don't overlap like some - that didn't work for me). Also, seemed to help with pests. We will continue with plastic.
Hmmm..... I must have gotten lucky. It doesn't always keep the weeds totally under control, but it seems to have helped with worms. For me it would work better if my beds were raised, but that's not feasible right now. For the time being i just have to try to keep the beds somewhat defined and separate from the wood chips paths. We have several tree companies dropping off the chips for free so they are an unlimited resource for now. I may wind up using plastic in some places. I learn things and make changes every year. @@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 I also think it depends on zones. I am in 6a. Also, the high tunnel may be good for the chips. I don't have labor to help with cultivation, weeding, etc., so I am reliant on the easy way (ok, and lazy 😉) for growing food. One day I hope to be in a position where I can devote time to the garden and it be as beautiful as yours and others. I learn every year and my biggest disappointment in life is not working more with the parents and grandparents. They are all gone now and I don't have access to that knowledge. I am totally dependent on media to help get me thru the next few years until I remember everything. Watching your channel is helping. Thank you for taking the time to do these!

I actually just got a delivery of seeds yesterday so I'm already getting excited for next year. (Especially after this extreme cold wave.) By the end of winter i just can't wait to start "digging in the dirt".

How are you fastening the indeterminate tomatoes to the string?

I too don’t like the garden plastic. It does not look natural.
It really does look bad. A heavy mulch can do almost the same amount of weed protection.
What's the name of the company that you got that greenhouse from and where in PA are they? I'm in the southern tier portion of western NY.
We got ours from Beilers Greenhouse in Quarryville PA. Rimol High Tunnels are very good too and they are a national company.

Our tunnel cost less than the Rimol. We also upgraded to the heavy frame since it is so windy here.
