  • My 1968 Dodge Dart drag car is getting her 727 torqueflite transmission re installed. Upgrades to the trans include a trans brake and an SFI blanket to meet drag race rules. My small block mopar powered dart will reach into the 10’s this year so lots of upgrades needed

    Joe, I used for the front the Ramps that you drive up on, I used a blanket on 727 in my Cuda and was very hot from that so make sure your Transmission cooler is huge or a tiny fan for that.also note cable shifter is a way to go

    • @SimpsonsSpeedShop
      @SimpsonsSpeedShop  2 года назад

      Ya cable would be better but then I lose the stock shifter. May happen in the future

    Wow, 10.99 or better needs a blanket. Is that just a track requirement ? Hellcats are easily running below that.
    Once again, that notification brought a smile.
    Lol, who needs a hoist? I need a hoist.
    The engine compartment is looking really good along with the controller setup, nice and clean.
    Thanks for the video and update.
    Stay strong brother.

      Hey bud! Cars newer than a certain year, like 2010 or something not sure, don’t play by the same rules. That’s also why they don’t need cages. Thanks for watching bro 😎

  • @griffittsgarage

    Great video Joe!
    How about a small metal shield off the pan bolts going vertical, protecting the linkage from being encroached on by the blanket?
    Just a thought.
    Nice work brother

      Oh nice one. Just don’t think the blanket has enough strap. Prob gunna slit it and poke softer arm tru and run linkage on out side

    Hey Joe. I love to see the car coming back together. I DO NOT like the way the jacket fits against the shift lever. Cable or linkage doesn't matter. It is against the lever and can tattoo your tranny catching it. I don't know what the answer is, but I think I'd weld 1/4" plate on the inside floor before I took a chance the way that one is set up!! Also, I am happy you ended up NOT putting a block against the tail shaft housing and floor. That s far too much weight for the tail housing.. I have done what you are doing a hundred times. Once you locate the tranny with the mount, run a cheap ratchet strap from one torsion bar to the other and tighten it up to hold her in place. Hell, I have towed cars cross country with a tranny on a strap like that and never had an issue!! And as far as the shifter, I'd keep what you have. As long as you cannot push through a gear, leave it. Cables are a PITA. They are tough to locate without a header burning them and they stretch. I have an aftermarket shifter that ratchets and I am going to convert it to linkage just like yours only B-body..

    • @SimpsonsSpeedShop
      @SimpsonsSpeedShop  2 года назад

      Good call with the strap across the torsion bars. I’ll look into a bit, ya prob just gunna cut the blanket and poke the shifter lever thru amd run the rod on the out side of blanket. Thanks for watching!

    Excellent video I've done the same thing by jacking to Jack with my legs but usually I have the floor jack pointing towards the rear because the engine is already in when I do it. I would probably put the transmission and engine in as one piece I find that easier. The secret to doing it like that is to Jack the back of the car very high so that the angle you put the engine and transmission in is not quite so severe.

    Love your car ! Qa1 makes a tubular k frame that bolts in & accepts all the stock suspension. It would give you a little bit more header clearance. I’m not picking apart your beautiful car , just passing along information 😊

    Did you have to modify the drive shaft to uses the 727? I also have a 68 dart and I want to pull the manual 3 speed to replace it with a 727. From what I understand the output shaft is longer but you seemed to have made it work.

    More progress! I’m ready to see how you like the brake. I’m assuming you have to switch classes of racing at your track?

    • @SimpsonsSpeedShop
      @SimpsonsSpeedShop  2 года назад +1

      No still just run pro class. We only have pro and street. 👍🏻

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe 2 года назад

      @@SimpsonsSpeedShop awesome! We have sportsman, pro, and super pro. The sportsman has a 7.70 cutoff for the 1/8th. Pro is footbrake that’s on slicks. Super pro is any electronics. So a tranbrake car would race a 4.80 dragster with throttle stop, 2 step, delay box. Kinda the step into the high roller part

    Great video, nice to see your progress. I do have a suggestion, please put a Nylock nut on that transbrake power connector. The last thing you want is it not working after the drive to the track and you are on the starting line. Just cheap insurance. And since you are upgrading the power alot, wouldnt it be a good idea to upgrade the motor mounts and the trans mount to polyurethane or go with solid mounts. I think schumacher racing sells upgraded poly mounts. Cant wait to see your car wheels in the air at the next track video. Keep up the excellent content.

    • @SimpsonsSpeedShop
      @SimpsonsSpeedShop  2 года назад +1

      Nylock nut is a good call! Motor mounts are good call, if I had the older k frame they would be solid for sure. May do motor plate in near future not sure.
