Technical wins, mechanical errors, close calls, and other imperfections, bloopers, Samoans, etc. are why TPIR has stayed on for over 50 years.
Since September 4 (Labor 👷🏻 Day), 1972, on CBS Daytime, of course, Kimara.
You've just reminded me that I remember when it first aired. 😳
@@kathynurks4379 On August 26, 1983, of course.
@@jamesmcclelland1414 I was 14 at the time. On summer break. I saw it once before going back to school. I couldn't wait for my first weekday off school just so I could watch it.
@@kathynurks4379 Well, I was nine and a third years old 👴🏻 at the time when that same episode of THE PRICE IS RIGHT 👉🏻 aired 💨 on CBS Daytime at 11 am Eastern.
RIP Bob. The Price is Right was a touch stone of my childhood.
Bob handled this like a pro😊
Agreed, he was always so sweet, and handled every gaff so professionally as well.
That he did. Once you declare a win when you're playing against the house, there's no going back from that.
No SHE LOST FAIR AND SQUARE. CANCEL TPIR
She was definitely sleeping with a producer. Not even the final showdown and she wins a trip to Hawaii, free luggage, an expensive af violin.
She won on a "technicality," because someone backstage stopped the mountain man? BS. She was blowin someone.
@@Kyle_Riel she was bobbin on Bob.
That's the one thing i like about Bob. If there was a malfunction, he gave the contestant the prize (if it was close and it was the show's fault). There have been others like this. Most other shows would likely tell you "sorry" and I'm sure that in the small print, it states they aren't responsible for errors, but good to see that Bob always does the right thing. After all, I suspect these prizes are all "sponsored" (given) to the show in exchange for free advertising through the game show.
The show is literally a giant commercial for the products. They can afford it.
There was one time where a contestant was playing a pricing game, and the contestant hit the button that revealed the price of whatever it was they were playing for. Bob let them have it anyway.
It’s probably just in the rules, or perhaps even regulations. There is a rule book that we never see that defines how these things are handled.
@@itsOasusI was going to mention that. Lol
Except for the time the wheel made to 100 and beeped but the thing didn't come off the pin...
For anyone who missed the tribute that aired last night (August 31), they're showing it again on Labor Day morning at 10am or whenever TPIR airs in your area. They show all kinds of malfunctions!
Finally,we got a Cliff Hangers blooper! They should air this on the one of the specials
I agree 👍🏻, Lamar!
In her defence, that was way too expensive a price for a 1983 Can Opener!
What, was its cutter made of Diamond?
I remember as a former 90s kid when it was summer vacation, school holiday, and/or when I was sick this was the best game show every weekday @10 AM. Especially every Wednesday he introduced pets for adoption that show he had a very big heart. Also he appeared in Happy Gilmore and he was very funny. Thank you for the memories. RIP Bob Barker.
I remember those days too and it was annoying watching those weird soap opera shows which is one of the worst things any 90's kids had to suffer with.
I love Bob, he was such a class act!❤️
Rip Bobby. Sad day. Almost made a 100
@@OleysiaOgren- Maybe not such a great guy with so many lawsuits for broken contracts, sexual harassment, threatened firing over weight gain when he got turned down...
@@douglasdavis8395 The mistake people make is in thinking that Bob was somehow pure and wholesome. He was presented that way on TV, but what you see on TV is obviously not real life. I think he was overall a very good man, but he had his flaws just like everyone else does. He did some bad things for sure.
I seem to remember one game where a contestant was SO close to winning, an audience member called out "Give it to her any way!" Bob called back to her, "The name of the show is 'The Price is RIGHT'! Not 'Give It to Her Any Way'!"
HA hahah Ha...
"It's not called The Price is Close it's called The Price is Right!"- Barney Stinson
Those were the best moments. I remember a show with the shell game where he accidentally showed the woman which shell the ball was under. He fake raged the whole way through. Of course she put the first chip by the correct shell, and when she placed the second chip he picked it up and slammed it on top of the first one and yelled "Who are you kidding?"
@@milesparris4045 I remember that !! (seeing it when it originally aired).
This is why that show was SO amazing!
Man, memories of that theme music, plus a bowl of chicken soup, a bottle of 7up, and a call from my parents to make sure I was still alive after staying home sick. What a time we once lived. I mean, who leaves a 10 year old at home alone anymore...
Bob Barker is the game show GOAT. Nobody will ever beat him.
Anyone who is a fan of the show knows how to win 90% of the time on cliffhangers, 1st prize $20.00, 2nd prize $30.00, 3rd prize $40.00. 😉
Just like the people who haven't got a clue that the last number of all the prizes in 10 Chances is a 0.
@@crawford586 That one really makes me scream at the T.V. NO YOU DUMMY ! 😉
Thank you for saying what needed to be said.
Yeh, but…. 😵💫
I don't know how accurate that is 😜😜😉😉ruclips.net/video/bWEGNe104To/видео.html
How sweet a gentleman to give her a win over a game malfunction!! We love you Bob. Rest in Peace
And if I recall, there was also a technical win on this game earlier this season back in 1982, but it was only announced after the commercial break.
An angel from Heaven prevented the Yodely Guy from falling!
This needs more likes.
You may be right! Divine intervention!
$1,460 for a trip to Hawaii and luggage?!! Wow!!
On Western Airlines...blast from the past!❤😊
An hour bus ride from the beach. No thanks.
That was in 1983
@@darkwood777It’s an hour drive to Waikiki, but not an hour drive to the beach. There are, of course, beaches all over the island (not just in Waikiki). The nearest beach (Mauna Lahilahi Beach) from where she would be staying is maybe a 5-10 or so minute drive. At least it would be 5-10 minutes in 2023. I don’t know what the traffic conditions were like back in 1983, lol.
No rollers on any of that luggage. How you going to carry all that stuff through the airport?😅😅
God I remember watching this show when I was little. It brings back so many nice feelings.
I’m glad that Bob has the authority to make those calls and CBS doesn’t mid that he cost them Money.
Other Hosts have to say, “Let’s see what the Judges say.”
On Family Feud, Richard Dawson, reversed the judges’ call one time. Obviously, the show had to go along with it, but it didn’t make the producers happy.
It’s not a matter of having the authority, but rather simply having a goodwill of the show and its viewers.
Plus, above all, Richard Dawson was fine, but he was not the legendary Bob Barker.
Policy is if they make a mistake or a game malfunctions, contestant wins. Been that policy since the beginning.
@@glenerickson358 There’s been several occasions where that wasn’t the case.
@@TommygunNG Mr. Dawson was his own little beast. I loved him in Hogan's Heroes. I loved him in Family Feud. I was always waiting, hoping, some flaming cute fairy would get on the show, and give him a smoochie. Why? Well, he kisses all the other girls.. no hate, just fair play.
Probably didn’t cost any money. Travel companies (airlines, resorts) give the prizes for free or even pay the show to put their prize on the show. Easy marketing.
And that’s why Bob Barker is the best
Drew will never replace Bob!
The official Barker Era ended yesterday. Have a great reincarnation, Bob..
He got as close to 100 as possible without going over…
He states as part of the rules that the contestant will win if the mountain climber doesn't fall off the cliff. The mountain climber did not fall off the cliff, so they had to give the win.
I remember a couple technical wins (could have been the same rerun) where the mountain climber should have stopped on 25 but went over, and gave a technical win because it happened on prize 2 and the game was called, when they still had a chance to guess prize 3 correctly and properly win.
The dude who set the game up and the person who checked it at the very least got their wigs split by CBS and Bob. Maybe financial cheeks busted via being fired.
@@chrismc410 Honest mistakes happen; I doubt that's egregious enough to warrant a sacking, as this isn't Gordon Ramsay running his first business we're talking about.
He also says while explaining the rules that the contestant can miss the prices by no more than a combined $25. So that technicality is a wash. But whenever there's an error on a game show they always err on the side of the contestant.
I’m sure the contestants are given a rule book backstage to sign with all the official rules and a disclaimer that the host does not have final say. But it’s nice that the host has discretion.
@@stephenbeck7222 That may be true with shows where they aren't picking people out of the audience (Randy Amasia was kind enough to show us the "Whew!" official rules while he was still with us), but that's near impossible when you have to process 300 people that don't know they might be selected while accounting for 50-some active games. There might be something a little more general and all-encompassing (perhaps a former potential contestant reading this could elaborate), but it wouldn't be every single nuance. For example, someone who worked on the show mentioned for the game "Flip Flop", the host is only legally required to say "Flip, Flop, or Flip Flop". You probably don't see that in a sign-off, though....
Ah, the good old days when Barker would play god and declare a technical win!
He WAS god!
He was an executive producer of the show in addition to his role as host/emcee, so yeah, he could make those kinds of rulings and have them be binding. As long as the rules of the show were followed, with occasional exceptions where necessary.
@@a.grimes4202 Actually at this time, he was NOT an executive producer. That came some years later, mighta been even in the 90's.
@@ajk Even *IF* what you’re saying is true, he obviously had a lot of power and respect among the higher-ups at the time on the show like Kathy “Fingers” Greco and Bob Chic.
@@a.grimes4202Remember also that unlike a lot of game shows, contestants are playing pricing games against the house. Any errors or ambiguities are always decided in the player's favor when they're playing against the house. The only parts of the game that involve playing against other players are One Bid, the Showcase Showdown, and the Showcase, and those are very cut-and-dried about how those results are determined.
this is funny he was stuck on the top. lol bob barker has a good heart and bob barker was smart enough to quickly do the right thing also. God Bless him RIP
This is why Bob was the master MC of the Price is Right! good on him!
I used to skip school or pretend I was sick just so I could watch TPIR. Watched him since 1979 when I was 3. RIP to the greatest game show host ever. You will be missed and nobody will come close to filling your shoes!
There is a trio, Bob Barker, Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek.
I remember seeing one of the Cliff Hanger games where the contestant got every price right and the climber never moved.
IIRC, it was when Drew Carey hosted.
It definitely makes me say wow that this was 40 years ago👍
Thanks for many wonderful years, Bob
This is my favorite game on The Price is Right
This game used to scare the living s**t out of me when I was a kid! The combination of the creepy yodeling music, having no idea as a viewer when the climber would stop, the somewhat worried expression on the climber’s face to begin with combined with him often meeting his traumatic end onscreen (whenever I watched, anyway) made for some serious nightmare fuel back in the day! I can laugh about it now, but back then, nothing ruined a sick day at home more than knowing that poor climber was no longer with us. He did seem to make it back week in and week out as good as new regardless of what happened the last time out, so that was mildly reassuring…until he took yet another header off the top, of course!
LOVE those HAIRSTYLES! 😂❤
that was so nice for Bob Barker for letting her win.
I always got a thrill when the little fella went over the cliff.
To me that was the best part of the game 😂 I lived for that
I lived in Hollywood and actually went to a couple of tapings of this show. The studio was smaller than it looks on television, and it was so loud in there you could not even hear yourself think.
I distinctly remember every time Cliffhanger came on getting excited for the song. That song and Plinko were definitely what kept me coming back for more. Well O.K. Bob ruled too
I loved watching this as a young kid in the 70s n 80s!
A similar thing happened on the live touring version of the show awhile ago that I saw. I should note that for the live touring version, the prizes are considerably less value since they don't have the budget as the regular show.
Anyway, once the contestant guessed the second prize, the climber didn't move, even though the contestant guessed wrong. The host of the show (I can't think of his name at the moment), declared the contestant won everything.
todd newton?
In another episode he even gave a win to the kid who pressed a button to reveal the price before he could guess it. Laughed and told him to get off the stage.
I can't believe they gave away a stradivarius. I know Larry Fine would have been proud.
If you listen more closely the announcer said it's a Stradivarius pattern. In other words a Stradivarius copy. Real Stradivarius violins are much more expensive. There are only 650 real Stradivarius violins left in the world today.
A gentle-anon of refined tastes! And certainly no knucklehead.. n'yuk-n'yuk-n'yuk.
Rest in peace Bob. I love watching his episodes when I was a kid at my grandparents house. My grandpa would always watch game shows including Jeopardy and Family Feud.
Will give it to her anyway. Bob Barker was a Class Act and would always own up to an error on the show
Bob Barker was, is and always will be The G.O.A.T.
Even though I was only 2 years old at the time of airing, I feel like this was my era. I miss this show back in its heyday, and I miss television as a whole pre-internet days...good times.
sorry I didn't recognize you without crap in yo pants. :P
There was a mechanical misfunction in Cliffhangers, so she was given the prize just the same.
Yes , That was nice. Have an excellent weekend Silvia 😊.
On the August 26, 1983, episode of THE PRICE IS RIGHT 👉🏻, of course, Silvia.
R.I.P. Bob Barker. You are a legend.
The mountain climber reached the cliff, looked down, and said "Yikes! I aint jumpin Down!"
That was nice of Mr Barker to just give it to her. We will all miss you
Dang, it's hard to believe it was 40 years ago. I remember that era of Price Is Right. I'm SO old...
The Cliff Hanger seems to malfunction a lot. I recall later years Bob complained about the malfunction
Bob called the Shots there!
BOB BARKER! *THE G.O.A.T, HOST OF THE PRICE IS RIGHT!*
Just a really strong and legendary host to be able to pivot on the spot and make it look effortless in the process, it's not!
bob was kind to let her have the win
Once you declare a win in a game that is played against the house, you really can't walk that back.
She was a cutie! ;)
this is what makes me like The Price is Right. they honor things when its [their] own mistakes. corrected on 7/23/23 at 7:50pm

The hair on Cayla! *floof floof floof* I love it. I can smell the hairspray from here.
RIP BOB BARKER, YOUR FANS FROM ALL GEREATIONS WILL MISS SEEING YOU IN MOVIES AND HOSTING THE PRICE IS RIGHT.
Rip Bob Barker there will never be a hosts that is good as you for The Price Is Right! December 12, 1923 - August 26, 2023
I think it is a sign of class that if something goes wrong, whether it favors the show or the contestant, they cough up and give the full prize.
Why did this show need to take ad breaks? Every moment of this show is an ad for something!
All of the revenue from the product placements goes to CBS. The local stations don't get anything, so they have to run commercials.
1,460 bucks for Hawaii and new luggage? That’s the price it should be now.
That’s a rent payment now. 😢
TPIR was the first show I learned to record daily on a VCR. It was a Betamax😂 Great machine. I love Bob! One my favorite episodes he added an extra putt to make it Hold In One - Or Two!
He stuck his crampons in the snow and said, "Uh uh!! Not today, Bob!! I ain't goin' over the edge,... _today_ !!"
Golden age of television
She's gorgeous 😍
A 10 on a 1-10 scale ⚖️ ! 😍
Bob was the best. Class act.
I loved mountain climber as a kid. ESPECIALLY when the little man fell over
Unlikely. According to a 1985 LA Times article Oster can openers with features were selling below 30 dollars retail. I suspect the opener was actually 32 dollars and the error was with the marked up price.
In other timelime..
Yodeler malfunctions and gets launched 20 feet across the room and lodges in the wall
Barker: Well, that's a new. Surely she wasn't THAT far off.
It’s amazing that BOB trumps everyone on the show.
RIP Bob Barker
Man, I remember seeing this game as a little kid in which I’d get upset every time the yodler would fall off the cliff. 😂
IK don't know if Drew would have given it to her because Bob gave more things to contestants
He would and has before.
Boy Bob sure was extra spunky during this time on the show!
"Free DONUTS!!! and Bob Barker". One of his great stories.
I do recall that in later years (decades ago), TPIR did completely get rid of the mountain climber game. Guess they never could fix it properly.
Looks like the Yodeling Guy is stuck at 25 without falling off of guy, but he is safe.
Bob Barker always a great sport!
Do the players not realize the price of each item increases each time ?
Excellent. I enjoyed this video, very informative
Good afternoon, Price fans! This one reminds me of another good one from 1981 when the mountain climber went over the cliff but was supposed to stop at 25. I think the mountain climber was on the bottle a lot back then. That, or the aging game had many issues, like when the mountain climber takes a big jump at the start in this clip.
As Roger Dobkowitz at the time said the machine was getting old... back when he was associate producer of the show.
Hope you enjoyed your prizes, Evette!
$25, $35, and $45 would have won nearly every time I ever watched it. This was one of their easiest games to win.
Rip Bobby. Sad day.
❤the cliffhanger game!!😃
Drew wouldn't have even noticed this was wrong.
I love Bob's manors!
*** manners ***
RIP Bob Baker. 99 years old.
Wouldn't win if it was wheel of fortune, they'll stop your prize if you sneeze, shoes are untied, if you blink. Good ole Bob Barker knows how its supposed to be done.
I❤ u Bob barker
Great too see live bloopers. Now, they would just reset and shoot again.
$1,460 in 1983 buckaroos would be about $4,500 in 2023. That’s quite a nice trip she won/lost.
The Mountain Climber just wanted to take in the full view for once instead of ending up in the hospital bed once again.
I remember the mountain climber dude and that music lol
1:56 ist that Morgan Fairchild?
Lmao. Diane Parkingson.
Rip Bobby. Sad day.
I was just asking. I'm from Germany, so how am I supposed to know?! As if I could know about US TV. Especially not the TV from the US 80's.
if you said any of those prices nowadays on those items he would go over on a single one
Could that have been on purpose? Makes the show that much more fun and exciting!
I wonder where Evette is now…
Reaching retirement im guessing.
Someone lost a paycheck. ;)
