- Yesterday, we heard from Michigan predator calling champion Chris Kreiner. Today, in part 2, we talk with local coyote mastermind Ozzy Clements.
Ozzy hunts coyotes mostly at night, and has won numerous tournaments in our home state of Illinois and beyond.
We dive into what makes him so successful, and how he manages to kill hundreds of coyotes each and every year.
We talk about his coyote hunting weapon of choice, his coyote calls, his setup strategy, and everything else we need to know so we can kill more coyotes this winter!

Is it ok to scan with green light
Then shoot with red light
( My scan light is green, while my scope light is red)
Hard to argue with someone who has as many kills as him but I've never had a issue with my 243 damaging fur. 75 grain vmax hornady superformance... rarely have exit hole, and rarely have a runner
I'm big into thermal hunting. I love it. Still learning but have killed 9 so far this year.
Listening now. I hope there is at least an acknowledgment that really a part of that kind of coyote killing success comes with living in a target rich environment. Not taking away from Ozzy at all but rather trying to put his success into perspective. Here in Pennsylvania we just finished our annual and probably the most popular coyote calling contest the mosquito creek hunt and almost 4500 people participated in the STATEWIDE hunt. Only about 250 coyotes were killed. Think about that. Ozzy can come here to any spot in PA and I’d guarantee he won’t kill anywhere the numbers he is used to in Illinois. Great contact though and no disrespect but the dudes that kill 5,7, 10 coyotes a night are only doing that in high population areas. No one talks about that.
That's a good point Scott. We should do another part with Ozzy and cover that. That is INSANE that only 250 coyotes died with 4500 competitors. I wonder why the density out there is so low? Any theories on that?
@@lastbreathtv4332 I can only add that we have coyotes here in every county according to the game commission but higher densities in the northern counties so they say. I hunted foxes for 30 years and hoped for a coyote. I had a couple misses many years ago because I just made too many mistakes. But I finally called in and killed my first two coyotes 2 years ago. It was a lucky first double at night. Since then I’ve killed 6 more all from calling. So 6 at night and 2 in the daytime and even the Foxpro reps says with that many here in PA I’m doing something right. But I just know here it’s so built up. And where it’s not it’s mountains and thick stuff so probably more come in and we don’t realize it.
Where are you in Illinois? I’m in Sangamon County.
Been predator hunting for about 15 years and just went thermal this year, made all the difference in the world. My first year with thermal I killed more yotes than the last 15 years put together. Ive killed 9 since november 2020. Ill never go back to lights only.
After coyote hunting an area do you see an increase in deer activity? My eastern Iowa deer hunting ground has been drying up but, I see tons of coyote tracks.
Now michigan has closed the coyote season for 3 months due to social pressure
Drop a link for episode 84. I cannot find it anywhere! From michigan would love to hear some tips from Cheis

Thanks Mike!!
I live in southern IL and just getting in to the sport and love it
Ozzy is a killer. Me and my brother kill a few hundred a year here in Ohio. What people don't understand is the amount of time and effort that goes into killing that many. The key to killing huge stacks is property. It takes hundreds of thousands of acres to produce numbers.
Big shoutout to Ozzy, the coyote killing king for joining us!!
Thermal changed the game for those who can afford em!!!! For me its still lights, therefore i ended up sitting home this am cause there was enough mist in the air to make my lights worthless
I went through 4 different atn before I went to pulsar. I always had great luck with atn scopes. All have worked as expected and killed coyotes.
You boys go to Aledo high school?
We did not, BUT our wives did.haha
@@lastbreathtv4332 I know some people around aledo, hamlet, joy areas that might let ya coyote hunt
It's something to hear he's from Illinios. I grew up in Indiana, and moved to NC. I never killed as much since as when I lived in the Midwest! That goes for everything. Ducks, Deer, Geese, Turkey, and Songdogs. I can't tell you how many times I've been woke in the am listening to coyotes murdering rabbits in the field behind the house...but it was all the time! I got spoiled growing up with all that, and it's made it harder later in life to get super passionate in this area that isn't as rich in game!
Bering thermal?
Lost me at “Kai-yo-tees”
So, based upon the title, what did you think this video was going to be about? Were you surprised?
Suppressed?
Jeeeeez ! Been hunting coyotes 3 years now … and I’ve killed 2 . I’m a failure 🤣
Don’t stop trying , try different areas !…..
Any Virginia or east cost hunters? These yotes are different. I’ve hunted Virginia coyotes for about 15 years. Never killed those kinds of numbers. Went to Missouri and hunted one morning and called in 3 in under 5 minutes. Way more coyotes in those areas and way easier to hunt when you can see them coming from a mile away. Mountain hunters where ya at? Anyone else feel my frustration? I’m lucky to kill 10-15
I live in VA & am wanting to get into coyote hunting. I live on the border or KY & TN & we have a lot of coyotes in my area. I’m going to purchase me either a .22 magnum or .223 AR both are good for coyotes so I hear. My home is located in the woods & I can hear coyotes howling at night especially during the Summer months. Hoping I will get lucky & learn a lot at the same time.
Clearly I’m behind on this video but isn’t Illinois banning AR/AK style firearms? Bet those numbers will will drop if they pull that off.
At 2:24 the secret to coyote success ….. lol. Ozzy who ??? I’ve never heard of him
Coyote’s you lost me at coyoties……
I would be known as the best if I had 20-30’000 $ into coyote hunting
Cool man.
1200 rounds for 312 Coyotes?
The title is complete crap and click bait. Definitely got this channel on my do not watch list.
Hey, this is America. I'm glad you have your freedom to choose bud.
