They're friends with Phil. Jim Ryan was resident LOLcow for saying no one would want to play old Gran Turismo games and other similar minor transgressions.
Its clear when someone wants to be charitable towards someone and when they're going in with an apathetic or hostile demeanor. They go through such hoops to be extremely charitable towards Phil Spencer.
Like the Jim Ryan thing. Let's look at his Gran Turismo statement with a more charitable lens: was he wrong? Who is playing old racing games when new versions exist? Has racing gameplay really evolved THAT much? Its all just visual improvements and quality of life improvements. The new version is generally the best version. Is anyone going back and playing Madden 98? If that were Phil Spencer, that's the kind of things they'd be saying

Hmm I wonder why it always seemed to good to be true?!?!? The best value in gaming falls on its face when the bill finally comes due and daddy Microsoft wants some money back. Gamepass was the worst thing to happen to Xbox, and it will be Phil Spencer’s downfall. Worst thing is, he can’t go back to charging full price. Xbox is going to slowly die into irrelevance.

He's been there for way too long and he's changed absolutely nothing. They keep acquiring all these studios only to kill them a few years later. The fact that Tango was one of those studios that got the axe only proves one thing, Microsoft is incapable of managing their studios. If they killed one of their best studios that gave Xbox one of their best positive moments in YEARS, I'd be very scared if I were one of those devs still working for Xbox right now. We shouldn’t be excited when MIcrosoft acquires anyone, it's basically a death sentence at this point. At what point do we stop celebrating Phil Spencer? MS and Phil are creatively bankrupt and he should've stepped down a very long time ago.

The amount of "Phil is one of the good guys" is absolutely pathetic.
"It hurts Phil as much as anyone" from the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, that's earning around $10 million a year for the last DECADE, when employees are struggling to get work and pay bills now, is a joke of a comment.
If there's a problem in the gaming departments, the buck stops with him. He's made the decisions that lead to these results.
The guy is a shark that you've misrepresented as a dolphin because you can't see past the interactions you've had with him.
I'm sure a ton of the other executives at Microsoft have people around them that swear they're great people too, but because they're just faces and nameplates to you, you'll say they're the problem instead. Why doesn't Phil take a pay cut like you ask every other greedy executive to do?
You can't say "Eat the Rich" and then rub shoulders and shelter the 1%. He's the face of this for a reason, he's a massive problem behind game output and now the layoffs.
    The guy has to go.

I'd like to see Phil and other VPs also take pay cuts as a way of assuming some responsibility--they steered the ship, but threw the crew overboard. Nintendo CEO Iwata took a 50% pay cut in 2013 to help pay for employee salaries and avoid layoffs.

I mean even if he is a nice guy in real life or if he was secretly the last line of defense for these companies from being shut down from higher up it doesn’t change the fact that it still happened while under his leadership. Really all the people who have been running Xbox should be held accountable for how they’ve treated their talent. The whole AAA industry is heading towards a real issue where all these high budget games aren’t even living up to their own insane profit margins because they don’t come with a mall attached to spend extra money on. It’ll never happen anytime soon but we need someone who can fight hard enough to end this vicious cycle of hiring and firing just to strip the company for parts if they don’t make a fortune, most likely by straight up making these practices illegal. It’ll probably not start at one of these large publishers but will probably happen after we start getting $120 AAA games at base price once a year and indies will start picking up the slack and hopefully create worker owned businesses and unions.

I think its insane that want leadership to be held accountable but not want to have Phil resign. Literally nothing he has done since being made the lead of Xbox has been a success. Real talk how many Xbox games can you say in the last decade since he has been in his position have been genuine successes? Not like an asterisk success but like critically loved without controversy that is a game you can only get on Xbox. Maybe Forza but even that has basically become white noise that people dont talk about. Hi Fi Rush was supposedly a major success.
But really the fact of the matter is nothing can be considered a success because none of their games actually sell. No one is buying Xbox games. And why would they. They turned Xbox into Netflix and now no one wants to spend more than $20 a month on their platform. When the phrase "Its a good game for Gamepass" started getting thrown around Xbox started to die as a major player. The whole point of games costing $60 and now $70 is because they need to make back development costs. Xbox games dont do that. This is a major problem. And then you have all the wasted money and effort in all these projects that are either getting cancelled or are taking way to long to develop.
At this point Phil does need to be fired. He isnt making the company money. He isnt making the shareholders money. Xbox Leadership isnt doing anything except walking around with their hands in their pants not having a clue how to run a company. And then are shocked when they have to lay off hundreds of people every 4 months. Xbox's strategy isnt even to make games anymore. They spent the last 5 years literally just buying studios that were working on stuff in an effort to make sure Playstation couldnt have those games on their platform. They are trying for mutually assured destruction. It doesnt matter if they are mangled and bleeding as long as their competition isnt doing better than them.
And the frustrating thing about all of this is that even after all of acquisitions and layoffs Xbox still doesnt have any games worth being excited about. And I mean truly excited about. Hellblade 2 comes out in like 2 months and we barely know anything about that game. We saw 1 probably fake trailer years ago and that is it. The people who got a chance to play it werent really impressed. Avowed might come out this year. Who the hell really knows. Fable has been in development limbo with like 5 devs working on it at different times. Hell we dont even know anything about that super secret AAAA game that they have like 3 of their major studios working in tandum with. Not a code name. Not a description.
I want Xbox to do good. I want it to succeed. But it cant do that if the people who are running it are constantly slamming their dick in a car door and the fans are calling it a genius move. Phil Spencer has got to go. Sarah Bond has got to go. Matt Booty has got to go. Mike Ybarra has got to go. All of the Xbox leadership has failed not only the company but the audience and we cant keep excusing it because they seem like nice people when they get interviewed. These are millionaires who will leave everyone working under them destitute if it means saving their own skin.
I know exactly how this is going to play out. Phil is going to get on twitter and talk about how it wasnt an easy decision to lay off all those people. Maybe he announced one of their leadership podcasts where they talk about what is going on moving forward with Xbox (very unlikely). The Xbots are going to make excuses for why all those people being laid off was necessary. And then everyone is just going to move on like nothing happened until the next time the same thing happens because nothing has changed. We are gonna be mad. Get on twitter and talk about how unacceptable it is that this keeps happening and nothing will change. And they cycle will keep going on and on.
Im really just over it at this point. Im over Xbox getting a pass for not even doing the bare minimum. Im over Xbox leadership just being allowed to ruin people's lives and the worst that happens is people are mean to them on twitter for like 2 days. Im tired of games media giving their hopes and prayers to the people effected by this kind of stuff but then next week go back to jerking off Xbox like it is saving gaming. It all needs to stop.
