Harry, it's going to be fun watching you build our new toy. You are absouletely right about build it once, build it right. The upside to building cars on the cheap in the past is what you learn from it (or from others). I too have built things on the cheap, but also not complete as I didn't have an end goal. The other issue I run into is that I have so many hobbies that I try to incorporate ways for the vehicle to accommodate each one. This leaves me with a half ass rig. So, this round when I purchased my 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad 4x4 after four years of research prior to purchase, I have a goal, and have a plan. Now, after owning the truck for 3 years and 30k miles, I have been slowly building the truck the way I want it done, and either building everything myself (rack, bumpers, sliders, skids) or doing the install on as much as I have the capacity to do so on. The only thing that I will farm out is the regear to 4:88 and the added front ARB locker. I am also not financing any of this. I save up the money, pay with my credit card (for points, and purchase protection) and immediately pay off the card. I am focusing on keeping the truck as light as possible, only putting steel where it is appropiate for my planned adventures, and not bolting on every single thing that falls under "Overlanding" that is seen on FaceSnapInstaTwit. Up here in the USA, there are sooooo many rigs that "look" the part, but are nothing but porch boyscouts, all prepared with no intentions of ever actively going anywhere or using the gear they just spent thousands of clams.

Great choice mate. That rear set up looks awesome. Love the water/air hose reels, what brand are they?
That new setup looks good and I think you've made a good choice of car at least it's a Toyota can't go wrong will see you on Saturday looking forward to checking it all out
I’m sorry to hear about your friend. I’m planning on doing a lap next year and definitely looking at a newer car just for the added safety
