I have to admit, I was one of those 'Why did you get a prado??' however your explanation and reasoning is spot on. Congratulations on the purchase mate. Good on you for not getting a 79 to flex on IG and youtube

A 79 is for farmers and people with the money and not the sense like 200 hundred owners who rarely use the cars full potential , a bit like 450 dirt bike owners most can just about handle a 250 but feel they need the 450

Harry, it's going to be fun watching you build our new toy. You are absouletely right about build it once, build it right. The upside to building cars on the cheap in the past is what you learn from it (or from others). I too have built things on the cheap, but also not complete as I didn't have an end goal. The other issue I run into is that I have so many hobbies that I try to incorporate ways for the vehicle to accommodate each one. This leaves me with a half ass rig. So, this round when I purchased my 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad 4x4 after four years of research prior to purchase, I have a goal, and have a plan. Now, after owning the truck for 3 years and 30k miles, I have been slowly building the truck the way I want it done, and either building everything myself (rack, bumpers, sliders, skids) or doing the install on as much as I have the capacity to do so on. The only thing that I will farm out is the regear to 4:88 and the added front ARB locker. I am also not financing any of this. I save up the money, pay with my credit card (for points, and purchase protection) and immediately pay off the card.
I am focusing on keeping the truck as light as possible, only putting steel where it is appropiate for my planned adventures, and not bolting on every single thing that falls under "Overlanding" that is seen on FaceSnapInstaTwit. Up here in the USA, there are sooooo many rigs that "look" the part, but are nothing but porch boyscouts, all prepared with no intentions of ever actively going anywhere or using the gear they just spent thousands of clams.

Not sure if the newer Prados have any more space but the 90 is VERY challenging to fit things in. The fit out for this one is just amazing. What size water tank went in? That is my current problem, I have nowhere I can find to mount anything with a decent capacity. I still prefer the look of the 90 to the new models though. (At least the new models have addressed the LBJ problem of the 90 that can have the front wheel collapse while driving - can't tell you how much fun that is.)

Nice choice! Changing the pintle tow bar setup to a good off-road hitch will be the best decision you’ll ever make 😉

You really should appreciate that fact that it IS a Land Cruiser :) Enjoy it ! We love ours and all the "making it our own" we have done. If you are talking GVM upgrade, the internet will im sure give you all the options and suggestions under the sun, we opted for Pedders GVM upgrade, unlike what a lot of others do. Food for thought. See, made it a food related comment :) Stay safe and enjoy

Great choice mate. That rear set up looks awesome. Love the water/air hose reels, what brand are they?

I’m sorry to hear about your friend. I’m planning on doing a lap next year and definitely looking at a newer car just for the added safety
