Ellen, I am a fairly new soap maker, and actually I tend to make everything but bars of soap. I consider you my Professor. I love your style, your attitude, your willingness to share and teach without charging any fees. I love that you are always sharing where to get good deals on ingredients and tools. You are a rare one here on RUclips and I'm just so thankful for you. Please never stop teaching and sharing what you are up to in your soap studio. Thanks so much for your bright light here on the tube.

Ellen you can also take baking soda and put it on a baking sheet and put it in the oven on low for 200 keep an eye on it think I was told to keep it in the oven for a few hours and it's basically what washing soda is:) Hope that helps!

This recipe is amazing! My ratios were close, but a little heavier on the soap gratings. It’s worked so well on my laundry that, when confronted with cleaning a patch of concrete in my garage where friends had hung their deer a few days before, I grabbed this laundry soap, dissolved it and drizzled it on the stain. It came up in seconds with just a couple passes of a push broom. Thank you for sharing your recipe!❤❤❤

So I love this recipe for whites and light colors. I do question the liquid formula only because I know with percarbonate, once it mixes into water, it activates, and only stays activated for a couple hours or so based off my own research. I’m assuming that’s why you got the foaming at the end when you mixed it. do you think it is worth putting the percarbonate in the liquid solution or maybe saving money and making a solution without the percarbonate, or just mixing your powder in with warm water and then throwing it in your tub just before you start your darks. Just some thoughts and opinions , absolutely love this mixture and has been doing wonderful for me !

Hi Ellen, thanks for the video and recipe(s). I've been making it with grated soap, borax and washing soda. Hope to try yours next time. If you were adding essential oils after making the powder, how much would you add? Thanks

I'm planning on making this laundry soap, thank you. I already have a product called Oxy Clean whose ingredients are: Disodium carbonate ; Sodium percarbonate , Alcohols, C12-15, ethoxylated. Do you think I can use this in space of the sodium percarbonate in your recipe? Thanks!

Yes, you can use that for personal use... If you are marketing or selling your product, you can't use a "name brand" as an ingredient.

No, you don’t need to put the soap ingredients, just label as soap.

Ellen! You are the best! Thank you so much for this recipe! I have been using Ellys recipe for many years now and recently saw your video. I wanted to ask, do you think it would be ok to do a 1:1 ratio with washing soda and grated soap? (And leave all other ingredients the same)Then i would only need 1tbsp for each load? Ellys is a 1:1 with the washing soda &soap. But doesnt use the other ingredients and only uses 1 tbsp. (For the recipe ive been using) I wondered if you think this would work upping the soap portion? Thanks so much for all your helpful videos! You have taught me so much over the years and i truly appreciate all your time spent teaching us! I still believe you are the Martha Stewart of the soap world! ❤

Hi, I’ve made this type of laundry soap before; however, the question I have is, with all of these various ingredients that must be purchased, can you make it for less per ounce than what you can buy a natural manufactured laundry detergent per ounce or per a one load amount? Hmmm…. Well, thanks for sharing. I make fragrance free, but I like the idea of adding the lemon essential oil.

    • @EllenRuthSoap

Yes, after purchasing all the individual ingredients and making a large batch, it's cheaper to make homemade.
