    What projects are people working on these days? Mine, someone elses, your own, whatever it might be. 🤔

      At the moment some fly by the seat of my pants prototype projects. Did do a couple of Dieselpunk's masks. Leather is running low so haven't been able to do much armor work. But here in a week or two I should be able to restock and grab some of your patterns. Definitely will be grabbing this pattern.

    In regards to Tokonole application, I utilize small applicator bottles with a long, blunt needle-shaped nose. A drop every centimeter or so, smear on with finger. Afterward, I use canvas to burnish. (I have used the same 4x6” canvas cloth for almost a year)

    Try using Q-tips for the tolkenal on the edges and the make-up ones with pointed tips to get to the really fiddly spots when applying dye/coloring. Alternatively the fine paintbrushes in the paint section of any art area/store for detail work will give you similar ability for fine detail coloring or working the edges. The trick is to remember that just because something is marketed for a specific purpose does not make it the /only/ purpose.
    As an example vasaline/aloe gel is a perfect blending tool when working with colored pencils.

    Cool greaves!!
    I like taping and cutting the paper as well... Even when I use a weight without tape, I tend to move around the leather a lot when I cut, which can shift the pattern. :S
    I have a huge bottle of gum trag that will probably never get used again after I tried tokanol. :P It seems to work noticeably better.
    I use an awl or my finger to put it on - you spread it on like I spread butter on toast, heheh.

    Tokonole is the truth my friend! Much like your antique though, you don't need nearly as much as you're using. A little bit goes a long way, I will usually apply small dots of it along my edge (usually with just my finger) an inch or two apart and then smooth out with my finger before burnishing.

    Great vid as usual, got some Tokonole on order myself can’t wait to try it. I am pretty new to leather crafting, made a simple bracer for my first piece, working on a helmet currently. Got any advice for creating designs to tool onto leather? Trying to come up with my own Wolf design.

    How do you get the contrast in your carving with the finish then antique. I am using fiebings pro resist and brushing on three coats with 6-8 hours between. Applying antique and my carvings are blending...any help or tips would be awesome!

      I believe they're called Leather Oblong Slot Punches

    • @DarkHorseWorkshop
      @DarkHorseWorkshop  4 года назад +1

      @@cal0051 Has it correct, it's an oblong punch. You can get the same result (though of less quality) by punching 2 round holes then cutting a strip out between them if you're feeling cheap. BUT, practice a lot since you don't want to screw up your piece.
