    Fortunately, I'm not bothered by deer, though my aunt living a mile away (and near a pond) does see them.
    I DO have rabbits.
    Last winter, we had so much snow. Our third highest amount on record. In spring, there were so many piles of rabbit pellets it looked like I emptied a big box of Kix cereal in my yard. 😆🤣
    As I planned a renovated garden a year ago, I looked for plants that were rabbit-resistent. I was blessed to find so many and I haven't been plagued by the critters. Many were on your list (nepeta, agastache, spurge, and ajuga, sedum, betony stachys).
    I can't say that during winter.
    Recently, I got up in middle of rhe night to use the restroom and looked out my kitchen window, about 2:00 am. There were two rabbits sitting in my back yard. That's why I always cage up my David Austin roses and blue spruce in the fall. I never need to prune the roses in spring. 😏

    We have rabbits, but they don't eat the plants. They do like to nest in them though. Sometimes they all have their babies at the same time and it looks like we have a rabbit farm in our backyard! We had two Lhasa Apsos who would run away when the rabbits all came out. Scared them half to death. LOL! The new plants look beautiful and some will be incorporated in our backyard! Thanks so much!

This list should help although we have more shade than full sun. My hostas, once they reach a certain size, do not attract the rabbits as much and can take some nibbling. Thank you.

    I've had to put fencing around fav perennials and use more large, tall pots. Here they tend to cut plants off at the base so sometimes placing a "collar" around the base at planting time helps. A cut off black nursery pot eventually, visually blends into the mulch as the plant grows. All of our clematis have a permanent ring of green poultry fencing around the base. The wire is hidden by surrounding plants.

      I'm "experimenting" overwintering my annual geraniums. I read the ivy type don't take to the method of removing all the soil, place plant upside down in a paper sack so I left one in its container as a houseplant. That one is THRIVING. The others in my cool basement, um, well, I can't imagine how those dried up things will come back to life despite my misting the roots once a month.
      As I said, it's an experiment. 😊

    Just recently the bunnies have started to be a problem for me but last year I had an issue that was worse. I had some type of wasp that made a nest in the ground under my phlox. They were quite the nuisance and made it hard to do cleanup or any work in my whole garden. Any ideas on how to prevent this?

    • @Edu_Kate
      @Edu_Kate Год назад +1

      I once had a very aggressive swarm of ground wasps. I sprayed TWO cans of wasp killer in the really deep hole (I think about 3 feet deep) at dusk or early morning (whenever they were home) and placed a heavy rock over the hole.
      Some of those darn things escaped by digging a side hole.
      I was afraid to garden near that spot for years. When I did check it out there wasn't a hole anymore. Solid dirt.

    I don’t know about pink profusion as I don’t do pink anything. However, May night, snow hill, and generic salvia are far from rabbit resistant here. They eat all of the flowers off. I can only say that they eat the purple varieties first. (I have purple and white planted together.) Once all of the flowers are gone, they will move on to the leaves. And these cottontails and jackrabbits are far from “hungry”. They have thousands of acres of “natural” feed. Luckily, they won’t even get close to any variety of nepeta!

    I live in central NC, and we have a large population of rabbits in our neighborhood that do plenty of plant damage. Some plants that rabbits have not eaten in my yard are Abelia, Illicium, Camellia, Veronica (Speedwell), Oxalis triangularis (Purple shamrock), Lantana, Dusty Miller (Jacobaea maritima), and Nandina. However, they have eaten Loropetalum, Everillo Carex, Azalea, and Coneflower which they are "not supposed to" like.

    The challenge in our experience is that rabbits strongly prefer our native plants - plants infused into our gardens for our native bees and/or our wildlife (eg berries). That is why we chose instead to develop protective strategies for those plants. IMHO it is important to fence or raise the vegetable garden IMHO. That is the top of their list. Zone 6 NewEngland
