      1 Corinthians 8:5-6
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Thank you so much for this amazing content:) I greatly appreciate it!
I am not Mormon, (I consider myself between Reformed Baptist and Anglican), but how do we also deal with Psalm 82? Especially with its clear use of "elohim". I always considered Isaiah 43 to be about the everlasting nature of the Trinity and how he is the King and creator of everything, yet there are still other divine beings, (angels and demons, but they could be called wrongly worshipped as gods). Therefore, YHWH is calling out the fallen-angles (gods or something else?) and pagans for their worship of these gods.

This is because we try to live our religion (not just show up on Easter and Christmas), and so he is witnessing the fruits of the gospel which are good. A house divided against itself cannot stand. As an ex Mormon I’m thankful for people like Jeff. I became born again long before I learned about Jeff and crew but he’s doing it right. Mormonism is extremely hard to get out of due to lifelong brainwashing. From the time you can pay attention all you hear is, I’d like to bear my testimony and I know the church is true and that Joseph Smith is a true prophet. You are encouraged to repeat it frequently. Around 14 is when I knew things weren’t right and when I questioned it all I was told is you just need to have faith but I still believed as a Jack Mormon and would defend it. In my 20’s I heard an actual pastor teach straight from the Bible and I couldn’t get enough. That’s when I realized that I was hungry for the truth. It took several more years but I eventually gave my life to Christ. I have my wife and aunt who both lovingly led me to Christ. If you’re a Mormon and seeking truth it’s out there and leaving Mormonism is hard but the feeling of getting out of that bondage is amazing.

I probably know more about the Mormon church than most Mormons. There’s no such thing as an eternity with my wife biblically. The idea that when you’re sealed to your family just isn’t biblical either. I learned to get my information on the only trusted source that we have and that is the Bible. 99% of Mormons won’t do it but if you were to do a deep dive into what is biblical and what isn’t you would find out that you’ve been lied to all along. I didn’t want to believe it even when I knew it was true. It’s really hard to get out of the brainwashing. I pray one day you will too.

I once went to an evangelical/born-again church and the pastor came up to me before the service and welcomed me. He asked where I was from and I said "Utah", to which he replied "oh. So you're Mormon?" And I said "yes, but I'm here with my friend and checking out his church." That pastor shook my hand and then we went to our seats. The service started and the pastor began a 30 minute lecture on why Mormons are going to hell and why Joseph Smith is a false prophet. After the service the pastor came up to me and asked if I had any questions about the service. I replied "Well, when are you going to talk about Jesus?"
This is, in a nutshell, my experience with people like Jeff Durbin. Once they find out you're Mormon or a non-creedal Christian, they will then spend their time talking down to you. They won't talk about Jesus. Want proof? Go talk to Jeff and tell him you're Mormon (even if you're not) and see what happens ;-) I guarantee you, Jeff won't mention the Gospel of Jesus, but he will mention the Gospel of Jeff ;-)

I just want to take a minute and thank you for all of the good work you guys on this channel are doing. THE TRUTH will always be attacked. THE TRUTH will always be hated. It's been this way since the beginning of time, and it will continue to the end of time.
You guys are one of the greatest missionary forces we have right now. Your very attacks on the Prophet JosephSmith, the Book of mormon, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are actually fulfilling prophecy and scripture. Jesus taught in the new Testament how to know a true prophet; Luke 6: 22-23, 26. Please read it for yourself.
Jesus said if a prophet is hated and attacked , this testifies that he speaks the truth and is a true prophet. Christ even said, "we should, "leap for joy, " because the very attacks on truth confirms its very truthfulness.
So, please, please, please continue to make more and more videos about our faith because the more you hate and attack, the more it testifies the truth. I would be very worried if there was never opposition to the prophet Joseph Smith, but that is not the case. There are multiple multiple youtube channels ( mormon Stories, utah apologia, mormon Discussion, apologia, etc.)dedicated and organized for the very purpose of destroying Joseph smith and the LDS church.
All of these anti mormon attacks do one thing for me, they make me "LEAP FOR JOY, " AND THEY ACTAUALLY BUILD UP MY TESTIMONY, and not destroy it.
Please keep up the great work because the more you attack my faith, the more it convinces me and testifies to me that it's true. Thank you, and god bless in all the great work you do.

Actually, David Alexander was correct in pointing out that Is 43:10 needs to be read in context, referring to graven images (42:8, 17; 44:9). Believe it or not, but there is no official LDS teaching in the Standard Works about who was God the Father's father, or heavenly Mother, etc. What a 19th century prophet said doesn't mean that everything they said was the word of God. LDS actually believe in a three in one God: Father, Son, Holy Ghost are one in fullness, will, authority, eternity, and purpose; they just don't believe in the Nicene definition. And I believe that God is not going split hairs about it, or that our eternal destiny is dependent on having a correct knowledge of God.

Well hold on, this is a clear case of semantics. While idol is a different word, oftentimes they are used interchangeably to articulate the same principle(s). So one of the key differences here, at least in my opinion, is that the LDS are talking principles and theyre literal words are simply being used against them when they might not be literal. At least thats what my argument would have been, but im not any of these gentlemen and im neither a LDS or a denominational Christian. I could say more about this, but comments are best used for short form responses rather than long form discussion.

Also, the LDS term "exaltation" which is the word used to describe becoming a god, is really not much different from many other religions or even sects of Christianity. Other words within the Christian sphere include "theosis," "apotheosis," and even "divination." French Jesuit Priest Teilhard de Chardin wrote about what he coined as "the Omega point" which describes the point when humanity would evolve into near perfection. The secularists would call this the "singularity" especially considering the advent of AI where the singularity represents the evolution and perfection of consciousness. So my point is this, if so many different contrasting views are all oriented in a similar way, then it would be reasonable to say that they're all oriented toward the same thing or at the minimum, similar enough. If we're all looking at the same goal, how can you say your goal is the right one? (I'm not saying anybody is right here, just putting this out there). Peace and love 😅

the way to identify any "unsound doctrine" is that at least 12 key points must be adhered to ; in order to uphold the Gospel.
    1) Original sin. See Genesis and Pauls teachings on 'we all fall short'.We are all born in sin (hence we require salvation).
    2) God is all powerful - and the only God.
    3) the "Word" was with God - his instruction and teaching "made flesh" in Jesus.
    4) Isaiah - received prophesy via Holy Spirit from God of the Messiah - Jesus wasn't just some random guy. God knew he was going to send him and gave this knowledge beforehand.
    5) John is primary witness to Christ as are the disciples and apostles.
    6) Mary - a virgin is visited by Holy Spirit and made to conceive Jesus. This has to be done this way ; or Jesus would not be Son of God.
    7) Jesus is Son of God and born of a Virgin via the power of the Holy Spirit.
    8) Jesus performs a whole bunch of miracles (and teaching). He could not do this if God hadn't intended him to and given him the power from the father.
    9) Jesus is resurrected and shows himself at Emmaus etc, Re: doubting Thomas Story. Blessed are those who have not seen , and yet believed....
    10) Jesus ascension into heaven to be back with God.
    11) Jesus Sacrifice provides us with salvation (if we believe)
    12) The Holy Spirit is Gods mechanism (or power tool) to make things happen and do his will.
Every false or unsound doctrine - undermines these things. All of these things hold true and are backed up by multiple pieces of scripture and they all hang together in a cohesive - canonical and theological sense. If you take any of these items away - like you don't believe Jesus is Son of God, then he's just a guy - well then how did he do the miracles without the power of God? If you believe Mary wasn't a virgin and Jesus came about some other way - same story. If you don't believe Jesus was resurrected - how can any of us possibly be resurrected. If you don't believe in the holy spirit - then you can't believe Isaiah's prophesy. If you believe Mary is the mother of God, you are breaking the first three commandments, If you think a person can 'become a god' - thats not giving God his rightful respect ( as he's the only one) etc etc. It all hangs together very neatly - every stumbling block easily overcome when you have all the pieces of the jigsaw from scripture and the Holy Spirit shows you.

Because the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have been given the further light and knowledge from a loving Heavenly Father who still loves and speaks to His children, those outside of our faith are like 1st graders trying to understand calculus. Don’t be historically ignorant. Even the Bible itself reveals Yahweh was far from alone.
“When Elyon [‘Most High’] apportioned the nations, when he divided humankind, he fixed the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the divine sons; for Yahweh’s portion was his people, Jacob [Israel] his allotted share.” -Deuteronomy 32.8-9.
The oldest fragment of Deuteronomy 32:8-9 not only locates Yahweh within a pantheon, but also reveals exactly who his father was. It describes the separation of humans into distinct groups (‘peoples’ or ‘nations’), and explains why each group was allocated a particular deity to act as its special patron. But the deity supervising this division of divine labour is not Yahweh, but Elyon - a title of El reflecting his role as the ‘Most High’ god of the pantheon.
Thanks to ancient scribal emendations seeking to ‘correct’ the polytheism of these verses, this reading (variously reflected in the Greek and the Dead Sea Scrolls) is not always found in modern Bibles.

  • @BroBear_35
    @BroBear_35 Год назад +1

Anyone that claims to have the true interpretation of scripture has to claim authority from god to some degree to do so. Looking at verses 11-13:
"I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.
I have revealed and saved and proclaimed-I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "that I am God.
Yes, and from ancient days I am he. No one can deliver out of my hand. When I act, who can reverse it?"
I would say that the context of this passage is not one of general theology where God is declaring himself to be the only divine being in existance as if he were just sharing a piece of doctrine, but rather a very specific and practical command to recognize him as Israel's only God, and the only only God to be worshipped.
Along with this, there is plenty of evidence to support the fact that the Jewish religion was not strictly monotheistic in the old testament and only recently was solidified as such. Yes we have one God, one God we worship. The presence of other divine beings as described in 1 Corinthians 8:5-6 does not negate his role in our lives.
"5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him."
But before going into discussing scriptures and their meaning, its important to understand where one is claiming authority to interpret the word of God. Most religions like Apologia Studios use the same authority that all protestant religions use. The Bible (a scholarly claim to authority condemned in scriptures) accompanied by the holy spirit. Because most churches use this same authority, protestants disagree on the true meaning of numerous scriptures just as much with each other as they do with the LDS Church. Anyone can add the context they want to scriptures to fit their interpretation by highlighting facts that support their interpreation while ignoring others. True authority to declare meaning of scripture comes from God himself to his chosen servants, something he has has always done as evidenced throughout the Bible.

And all Christians do this too... If there is a pastor that reads from the bible and teaches from his or her church that homosexuality is NOT a sin, and then you disagree with him. Wow. Jeff is quite the master manipulator of scripture and doctrine! There are a number of things wrong with this argument, but I’ll just keep to the primary topic at hand, which Jeff conveniently brings up only once or twice while redirecting the focus on “Mormonism.”
The primary point here that the representative brought up was that Isaiah 43:10 was within the context of the Lord addressing the worship of other gods manifested by physical idols. It begins with focus on physical object made by man but later expands to animals and entire nations of people.
Jeff’s response was to read the text “in context.” But he didn’t. He just repeated the verse (plus verse 11 which essentially summarizes verse 10). He does mention that this concept of the Lord being the only god is found throughout chapters 40-46 and encourages everyone to read them. I encourage that as well, because if you do read them you will see that the true CONTEXT of these chapters revolves around the refuting of idol worship! If you go a chapter further to 47 the Lord announces the destruction of Babylon and Chaldea for comparing themselves to God (a form of idol worship) and using that comparison to justify their wickedness.
Jeff states that there are many examples throughout chapters 40-46 wherein the Lord speaks about being the only god (which is true, again being in the context of condemning idol worship). He then says that he wasn’t going to read them all but would give a couple examples using Isaiah 40:18 as the first. OMG! He conveniently skips to verse 25, completely ignoring the very next two versus!!! Allow me to repeat verse 18 for you but I will actually put it into context by including the next two versus:
18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
19 The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.
20 He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.
The very scripture Jeff quotes to support his argument that the original verse mentioned was NOT regarding idol worship (and idol creation as well) is in the direct context of the Lord condemning idol worship, making a mockery of it saying that a wise person would choose a tree that will not rot (as man made wooden idols would eventually do) and a “graven image” (aka: man-made idol) that shall not be moved (as physical objects that people were claiming to be their actual gods could be stolen and/or lost and then where is your god?).
Those were my two biggest issues with this argument, but I will just throw out there as well that I find it ironic again that Jeff chose to quote 40:18 as 40:20 uses the verbiage “graven image” which again is another way of describing an “idol.” Jeff substitutes the word “idol” in the scripture being contested and mocks the thought of it being in context of idols with the idea that it didn’t work, yet here the Lord is using verbiage synonymous with the word “idol” as symbolic imagery representing himself.
As for all of the other points concerning doctrines and beliefs held by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS), I could make many videos explaining how these concepts are being twisted so as to fit his purpose. I’m not saying that there wasn’t truth in his comments, but the truths mentioned were in such a way so as to stir emotions while also conveniently ignoring other key concepts that were left out.
If you truly want to know more about the LDS church and the doctrines and beliefs therein, I suggest going to the source, the Church itself, and then decide on your own what you want to believe. You can learn more at www.churchofjesuschrist.org/comeuntochrist.

      @carmanragatz Год назад

@@uganda_mn397 That’s exactly what God is doing. He is saying that there will be no other god for them to worship. It’s also worth noting that God teaches line upon line and precept upon precept. Christ explained this concept multiple times as many contested His actions as being against the laws of Moses, stating that He came to provide higher laws. Forget about committing adultry…don’t even look upon a woman to lust after her. Forget about not killing…don’t even think ill of your neighbor.
The doctrine Jeff is contesting in the original video (not this one) has more to it than what he is touching upon here and would be a higher law than what was previously taught in olden times. Just as much as people wouldn’t be able to follow the commandment “don’t think ill of your neighbor” if they can’t even follow the commandment “thou shalt not kill,” so too would people have difficulty understanding a higher doctrine regarding God and our eternal existence if they can’t even grasp the concept of worshiping only him and not other idols.

Good and bad spiritual beings are referred to as "elohim" in scriptures, apart from "malaj/malak" (angel) or "shedim" (demon). The belief of bible writers of the OT believed there were other "elohim", that's why comparing "Ha Elohim" to them made sense, otherwise, it was a pointless comparison. It's clear in Psalm 82 when YHWH is in the middle of the elohim and he judges them for leading the people's astray. We'd be mistaken to apply our perspective of God and how we see those concepts to the Bible, specially the OT, where it's clear they believed in other created spiritual beings called elohim or "gods" (keeping the meaning of their context).

"But the Comforter, which is the *HOLY GHOST,* whom the *FATHER* will send in *MY* name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever *I* have said unto you." *John 14:26*
Scripture _A B O U N D S_ with passages that speak of not just the Father being omnipresent, omniscient & omnipotent, but also Christ, AND the Holy Spirit. Those three characteristics belong to none other than *GOD.* No need to detail all of them, as you're already set to deny it all.
All the best to you in your search for truth, *MARANATHA!* ~~~:)
