Beautiful I’ll be looking forward to the second stone. I found a lap I just love it’s a topper 3000 off eBay 10 bucks THK is the brand china .Crazy I’ve been doing most of my preforming and mains with it no subsurface issues. Straight to 8000 tin+ then ba5t or dark side. For 10 dollars I’m impressed. Thanks for the great vid. Peace
Thank you for this informative video! I just got into faceting yesterday and want to do an emerald cut on a smokey quartz I found in sweden! How long time do you reckon it took you from the rough stone to the finished one? 😁🤠
Wunderschone! Very nice work. Why do you prefer epoxy over wax for dopping? At some points you use oil instead of water, do you have reasons for this? I would love to see a pile or collection of your gems spilling from a small treasure box, like a dragon hoard you made for yourself...
Dankeschön🙂 I use epoxy because it is the most comfortable for me to work with. Nice viscous and hardens quickly. I usually tend to take a little too much, it just feels safer😄 For me personally, Super Glue is too liquid to work with, especially with larger stones. I think the connection is safer with epoxy than with dop wax. In general, however, all three can be used very well. I use oil for prepolishing and polishing with Diamond on the BATT Lap, because it is easier to dose than water. A drop on a paper tissue and spread, rub the Lap dry once, then apply Diamond is my standard mix, if I have to polish more carefully, for more control(softer Materials), so as not to overcut any facets, I wipe off the Lap quickly, more oil remains on it, it is softer and cuts / polishes slower. If I want to cut / polish faster with more resistance, I wipe dry two to three times.
I use so little oxide on my Darkside lap that it is barely visible. I can't believe how much you put on this lap. Have you tried MUCH LESS ? That said, regardless that you use WAY MORE oxide than I do, you do get an excellent polish. But I say you can get and equally excellent polish using much less oxide on the Darkside.
Yeah you are right. I replied to your first comment. ‐-- In the beginning I experimented a lot with oxides and water, it was a method that worked. However, I was never satisfied as I was wasting way too much oxyde. The problem was with the dosage of water. 1 drop every 3 seconds, 1 drop every 5 seconds, everything is far too much. The solution was quite simple, I now use a spray bottle, so that the water can be optimally dosed and I hardly need any oxides for the perfect polish. My buddy Tony gave me the tip with the spray bottle. I also made a video about it later. Take a look: https: //ruclips.net/video/olof6tZ64Bo/видео.html
